I HATE summer!! Being on winter

ManifestingMyDreams · 14/06/2017 18:49

Just wondered does anyone else HATE the summer and prefer winter months?

I hate being too hot and not being able to cool down, I hate how easy it is to get dehydrated, I hate how grumpy it makes my DC and I hate being sweaty and sticky. I could go on.

Don't get me wrong I like a bit of sun as opposed to rain but not the heat and humidity.

I like winter, being cosy and warm when it's cold outside and the build up Christmas Smile

AIBU to want to hibernate until September? Lol

Totally hate summer. So much so that I look at weather forecasts in places around the world that are cold while I'm sat in the garden, with my feet in a paddling pool sweating my cobs off and dream I'm sitting in front of a fire with snow outside!

Unicorn81 · 14/06/2017 22:12

Winter is coming...... cant fuckin wait!

candlelit35 · 14/06/2017 22:15

I've found my people. I'm a sweaty, irritable mess. Sunshine and humidity are great for holiday-big in. NOT parenting, working, running a million errands in, driving, dealing with idiots in. Take me back to spring please!!!

Titsywoo · 14/06/2017 22:19

I like all the seasons :) I'm not keen on the rain if I'm outside (especially if it's cold) but that's about it. I live in a bungalow which helps a lot with the heat and all the bedrooms are at the front which is north facing so stay cool. I do understand why some people hate summer though - if I had to commute on public transport I think I'd like it less!

Highalert · 14/06/2017 22:21

I'm sitting in the garden admiring my solar lights. It's lovely.

PlymouthMaid1 · 14/06/2017 22:28

I think you summer haters should move to another part of the country . I don't recognise your descriptions of a uk summer at all. The past few years we have only had a handful of hot days but loads of grey wet ones between may and october. I have just got into bed under my 13 tog duvet and even have my cold feet on a water bottle. Its the winter which makes me unhappy, ill and grumpy.

AceholeRimmer · 14/06/2017 22:52

I love the cold months the most but I love bits of all seasons... summer is beautiful. Like today I could go in the garden and paint the fence on the nice dry grass with no threat of rain. But it can be a bit unbearable when it's hot like today and it drags on into the evening. Mafting in Yorkshire! Tonight it's fans on, duvet on the floor!

cardibach · 14/06/2017 23:03

I'm confused. Heatwave? I know weather can be different in different et places, but I swear the weather forecasts have in,y had decent weather today, and no guaranepntee for tomorrow. Coming back at the weekend. Plus it's not even hot. No idea what you are on about.
As PPs have said, summer is much shorter than winter so put up with it like us sensible summer loving people have to for the rest of the year.

cardibach · 14/06/2017 23:04

Excuse typos. Just interpret in a free form way.

alltouchedout · 14/06/2017 23:16

No. I hate winter. I don't like the cold and wet and wind and ice, I don't like the long hours of darkness and the lack of flowers and leafy trees. I would rather be too warm than too cold. I bloody love summer.

naughtymutha · 14/06/2017 23:59

Yep me too! And people think it's weird but with hay fever, restless sleep, bites and humidity-what's to like?

I might feel differently if I lived by the sea Hmm

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 00:23

Where has it been 30 degrees?

Come and live in Yorkshire, then you would appreciate the odd warm day.

I love summer. I love the long light evenings. I love being able to spend time in the garden. I love wearing fewer clothes and going barefoot.

I hate being cold and damp. The long dark nights and low light levels really affect my mood in a negative way. And I hate cosy. Cosy translates as claustrophobic to me.

Winter lovers get far more days of weather that suit them, so please let us summer lovers enjoy the handful of warm days we get if we are lucky.

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 00:26

We have a forecast of 17 degrees tomorrow. That ain't hot.

DianneDionne · 15/06/2017 00:34

I'd love the summer if I wasn't so pasty white and fat. I've put on so much weight since dcs and nothing in my size doesn't look like a tent. And my arms, urgh, there are no words for those.

I have a family event to go to on Saturday, I was planning on the usual black trousers and forgiving top, but it's going to make me melt. I'm dreading it.

The thing I do like about summer is how much my dcs love it, they'd live outside if I let them. But other than that I hate it, and I hate the expectation that we all love it too. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons: layers, no sweating, boots, hiding under jumpers and the excuse to stay in on a night - I'm definitely an autumn/winter person. Oh, and the fact that my dcs get up at 5am in the summer months, black outs don't seem to work and they never seem to be tired at this time of year. Autumn and winter get me another hour at least!

ManifestingMyDreams · 15/06/2017 07:17

Been awake since 5.25am this morning. A whole hour and a half before I was due to wake up. I love dark winter mornings. They're so cosy

YADNBU!

Heat, flies, sneaky pollens invading your nose, people sweating all over everything, it's light when I want to sleep, other people just wanting to 'do something' to 'make the most of it' Confused. Bleugh!

I'm due again this summer and just want to either eat or bathe in ice cream depending on the time of day.

Autumn though - autumn is beautiful and smells nice without resulting in 600 sneezes a day. You can make the most of it without fear of heat stroke, dehydration and sunburnt skin. Winter also is lovely - cold, peaceful, dark when you want to sleep. Perfect Smile

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 08:10

Gah! That word "cosy" again. I hate "cosy"

I prefer light and airy

What is so great about driving to and from work in the dark? More traffic on the roads? Having to spend more money on heating and lighting? Wearing thick clothes?

I feel for people who suffer from hayfever and heat rash because there isn't much you can do about it, but I don't buy the not being able to find suitable clothes argument. Not all summer clothes are skimpy. And quite frankly if you are concerned about being overweight wearing a jumper in 30 degree heat just looks ridiculous and doesn't make you look any slimmer than a loose floaty top.

AceholeRimmer · 15/06/2017 08:16

It was 24c and muggy where I am in Yorkshire yesterday, it was mafting. But today is a lovely cool breezy day, 18c maximum. Perfect! It's a balance isn't it.. lovely bits of summer (full trees, flowers, dry, sunny) but not hot. It makes doing everything much easier.

I used to live in the Middle East where it was regularly 40c in summer (awful, rarely left the house!) but I loved it at 30c. The heat is completely different, dry and breezy! It just gets so muggy in the UK.

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 08:25

What's mafting?

Strummerville · 15/06/2017 08:30

Posters on MN have a romanticised idea of autumn and winter. Grey miserable dark days is the reality

I like grey, miserable, dark days Grin. They make me feel really...I don't know...safe? Maybe it's something to do with having been born in February.

Bright light gets me down. I feel all exposed and stressy. Have to hide behind sunglasses and wide-brimmed hat when I'm not lurking indoors with the curtains shut. And heat over about 20 degrees can sod off.

Sometimes I open my wardrobe and look longingly at my chunky knits...

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 08:41

I think I must suffer from SAD as grey miserable days make me feel really low and unproductive. The theory about when you were born is meaningless as I was born in November.

RosyGold · 15/06/2017 09:32

I too cannot stand the summer. Don't get me wrong, I love going on holiday to warm/hot places, but that is only enjoyable to me because I'm relaxed, not having to run errands, do cleaning, cooking etc.

All the above is bloody murder for me in the summer months at home. Even if it's not that hot I get flustered and sweaty doing the simplest of chores! I whipped the hoover round downstairs this morning for all of 2 minutes and was hot and knackered when I was finished!

And don't even get me started on trying to wrangle a sticky grumpy toddler into the buggy to go out - the other day I was sweating like fuck before I even got out of the gate! I don't find normal day-to-day life enjoyable in the heat! And trying to sleep is just hell.... I'm much happier in winter when I can wrap up and snuggle with the fire on Smile

ShelaghTurner · 15/06/2017 09:49

I love that us winter souls are told we have a romantic idea of winter that bears no relation to reality. And yet when you try to tell summer lovers all the things that suck about it they won't have it. People above have listed a zillion reasons why summer is horrid but it's been ignored.

HateSummer · 15/06/2017 10:00

The worse thing about summer are the shit flies. They're fat and filled with pus, buzzing around your kitchen trying to sit on your food 😡 Or they're buzzing around your bin outside. Then when it gets really hot, there's sometimes maggots in my green bin, which is disgusting. I just hate it. I don't mind breezy weather, but full on hot sunshine is horrible.
