I HATE summer!! Being on winter

ManifestingMyDreams · 14/06/2017 18:49

Just wondered does anyone else HATE the summer and prefer winter months?

I hate being too hot and not being able to cool down, I hate how easy it is to get dehydrated, I hate how grumpy it makes my DC and I hate being sweaty and sticky. I could go on.

Don't get me wrong I like a bit of sun as opposed to rain but not the heat and humidity.

I like winter, being cosy and warm when it's cold outside and the build up Christmas Smile

AIBU to want to hibernate until September? Lol

Where is this fabled summer you are all speaking of? I'm in the SE and it's only just not chilly finally.

ManifestingMyDreams · 15/06/2017 10:02

@ShelaghTurner it's each to their own I guess. I started this thread because I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one who's going to be a grumpy cow for the next few months.

I'm glad people feel the same way as me because as I've said before people think I'm weird when I say how much I hate summer. Spring I can manage, but it's the heat. Autumn is lovely, the smells, the colours. It gives a certain feeling every year which is special to me but I think that goes back to my childhood

I used to love summer and now I hate it! It's the mugginess that you just can't cool down from. Why can't we have nice heat like Spain or the canaries. Bring me autumn now please

BarbedBloom · 15/06/2017 10:36

Me too. I hate being too hot all the time and there are only so many clothes you can take off before you're arrested. I haven't slept properly for ages as I can only sleep in very cool rooms. My hay fever is killing me and I keep getting headaches even though I am drinking a crazy amount of water.

I love winter, I like being cold and I love the dark nights curled up with a book and some hot chocolate. I also like spring and autumn, but summer can get lost.

ManifestingMyDreams · 15/06/2017 10:42

I just find it's so much easier to warm up when you're cold than cool down when you're hot.

Being cold and getting into a hot bath or hot shower is amazing.

Still not remotely hot here. I am thinking about popping upstairs for socks and cardy. I was born in December and get very SAD in the winter so that idea doesn't work. Is it actually 30 degrees somewhere in the UK today then?

toffee1000 · 15/06/2017 10:50

I can understand why people dislike summer, but if it lasts as long as people say (Jun-Sep) then that's only four months, you lot get eight months of the weather you love, let us have a little bit of the weather we like Grin

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 15/06/2017 10:50

Still waiting for summer here, thought we were getting a heat wave but it has just rained here,a peek of blue sky and more black clouds.
I love summer, the flowers, just putting on jeans and a top,no socks and drying washing!
Where does everyone live where it's sunny?

GreenHillsOfHome · 15/06/2017 10:51

Generally I love summer. BUT I'd be glad if it fucked off early this year because ds3 is 4 weeks old. So firstly, I can't fit into any of my summer clothes. Secondly, breastfeeding is a sweaty business when it's so warm. And thirdly, having a newborn in boiling weather is a right pain in terms of keeping the sun off, him getting warm in his car seat when we're out and so on.

So yes, looking forward to it being over this year!

scampimom · 15/06/2017 10:54

Good thing about summer: drinking chilled rose in the garden of a loooooong warm evening.

Good thing about winter: drinking chilled white in your fuzzy pjarmies while snuggled in a fluffy blankie and watching TV drama.

Wait....there seems to be a theme emerging...

OhMrBadger · 15/06/2017 10:57

I'm torn. I love the way the world looks in the sun but I hate feeling hot. I also always get a heat rash on my feet so they are a horrible itching mess every single summer. Plus as a Proud Introvert I cringe at the 'jolliness' of summer; the idea that I should be out enjoying myself somewhere and taking the kids on picnics or to festivals.

But I do love, love, love autumn. It's the best season.

YANBU. I hate summer, I get hayfever, sinus infections, migraines and my IBS flares up in the heat. I much prefer autumn as my energy improves and I love wearing boots and eating stews.

WifeofUthred · 15/06/2017 10:58

I hate it. I'm ginger and pale skinned. So hours spent putting sun cream on, heat rash, sweating, not feeling comfortable, not sleeping.

What I hate most though is the expectation that I must love it. I don't have a go at people for hating winter and autumn.

I live in Yorkshire and it was unbearably hot yesterday and looks again today. Anything above about 23°c is too hot for me.

ManifestingMyDreams · 15/06/2017 11:00

I'm a girlie girl. I do love dresses but I'd wear them in winter too (just add tights lol) but my legs rub together at the top (tmi) and they get really sore in the summer which isn't fun

Really? I love autumn and Christmas but January, February and March are brutal. Getting up and leaving work in the dark. Cold toes and cold nose, especially in bed. Dry cracking hands. Having to have the heating on. Grey skies. And it feels like it'll never end - every year!

scampimom · 15/06/2017 11:08

oh, lordy, the old chub rub on the thighs in summer skirts. Feels like your squishy bits are on fire if you walk farther than about 500 yards. And sweaty boobs too - maybe it's just being a bouncy lady in summer that I don't like, rather than summer per se?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 15/06/2017 11:11

London is too hot in summer and we don't get any snow in winter. I'd love winter if it was proper cold and snowy.

I pick spring and autumn as the best seasons!

myusernamewastaken · 15/06/2017 11:28

I love summer.....no wet washing around the house taking forever to dry....lower energy bills....bliss

7461Mary18 · 15/06/2017 11:30

One of my very blond (and very very white - never has even a single bit of tan) son was saying the same (and I am covered in freckles always the whitest person on any plane coming back from holiday too). I like our seasonal variety.

PlymouthMaid1 · 15/06/2017 11:41

soo jealous - we havent had any summer yet :(

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 15/06/2017 11:50

Where's the sun,Have sheets to dry!
We're promised sun at the weekend when I'm working!Hoping for nice warm evenings so we can eat outside and sip chilled wine.
Soon jealous of those of you with sun, it's chilly here.

StoatofDisarray · 15/06/2017 11:52

Agreed! Summer can kiss my sweaty arse.

Troika · 15/06/2017 11:58

What is summer? Haven't experienced that for a while! A few warm days does not a season make.

heron98 · 15/06/2017 12:07

Where do you all live where it's 30 degrees? I am in Yorkshire and it certainly isn't anywhere near that.

StarHeartDiamond · 15/06/2017 12:15

I agree except so far I've not found summer too bad, there's been a few hot days but not too sticky and interspersed with average/cooler days. That I can cope with!

Take heart that next week is the longest day of the year, which means every day from that point onwards is getting shorter and heading towards winter Smile
