Trump's remarkably quiet on Twitter. I was waiting for FAKE NEWS!!! but nothing

Give him time. He's not woken up yet. I'm sure he'll oblige soon enough.

I have to post today to ask, in a tiny naive, hopeful voice... does anyone think this is 'it'? The smoking gun I've been hoping (OK, praying!) for? Is this enough to get the rats to desert the sinking ship and pile on the pressure for a resignation or (holy grail) impeachment?
Still not there. Yet. Republicans still seem to be supporting, though not perhaps as vigorously as before. It still needs something else to happen. Be patient. It will take longer than you think if it does happen (and still no guarantee it will).

Remember Trump will never resign. Trump has his own security guards - loyal to him not the State - to protect him. Even if he is impeached and/or there is an arrest warrant for him, how do you think that will go? The answer is not well. It will require logistics.... No prizes for guessing what type. Go with those movies and think 'shoot out', and then think about reaction from the public, particularly his supporters.

There will have to be a near complete public opposition to Trump to avoid creating a situation which will destabilise the county. The good news is however that 78% of the US population now support an independent investigation into Russia / Trump. So we are not far off the optimal point where something can be done as a core will not change their minds.

I suspect a few more leaks to discredit him even further will be the order of the day. Just to make sure there is no chance of a public backlash. And to put pressure on those Republicans who are still supporting him.

Orlantina · 16/05/2017 11:09

Exactly. To react to something implies that you must know there is a specific threat. The only way you can know there is a specific threat is if you have managed to get direct intelligence about the threat.

I guess it's a dilemma. If you have specific intelligence, how do you react to the threat without showing you have specific intelligence and a source.

Something the Allies faced in WW2.

That's interesting Red. And I do think that when the writing's on the wall, some of his Aides will jump ship to save their own skin. Then capitalise on that.

I meant to post this yesterday but it all kicked off!

The last few months, I've been reflecting, spending time with family—and, yes, taking walks in the woods.

We're launching Onward Together to encourage people to get involved, organize, and even run for office. t.co/8exooosvZ5

More than ever, I believe citizen engagement is vital to our democracy. I'm so inspired by everyone stepping up to organize and lead.

People across America have made their voices heard thanks to @IndivisibleTeam, and supported @swingleft's efforts to take back the House.

.@ColorOfChange is organizing for criminal justice reform, voter freedom, fairness and accuracy in media, and other racial justice issues.

.@EmergeAmerica is training diverse Democratic women candidates, and thousands of young people have signed up to @runforsomething.

Those are just a few of the groups Onward Together will support, working with @GovHowardDean and others—stay tuned for more to come.

This year hasn't been what I envisioned, but I know what I'm still fighting for: a kinder, big-hearted, inclusive America. Onward!

Interesting, Perking--on the SA links. I wonder how much Russian money goes throught there?

lionheart · 16/05/2017 11:34

This is pithy:

....there is perpetually less to Trump than it appears....

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:09

Reports of Trump sharing classified information point to growing fear of him.

Deserves a medal?

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:19

That was actually in connection with a sentence at the end of the piece.

"But with Trump, it's possible the leaker deserves the Medal of Freedom."

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:21

He's tweeting again.

Oh my...he is admitting it on Twitter! Shock

Shock

This is not good.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 16/05/2017 12:33

Is it wrong that I'm impressed he's used the word "pertaining"?

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:37

Someone else would have used the words, Perking. And, for some reason, they stuck.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:37

Sorry. Pain.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:40

If Obama had done one quarter of that which 45 has admitted to, I would have assumed that his drink had been spiked.

TheClaws · 16/05/2017 12:43

The tweets do sound strangely formal, though. I think he wrote them, but very carefully. And with some resignation (in the sense 'Oh, I have to do this, don't I).

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:49

And this is the man that purports to 'negotiate' with other countries on behalf of the US. Lordy.

saffronwblue · 16/05/2017 12:49

I think someone helped him with the tweets. Jared?

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:51

I don't know, Claws. I can't imagine a single one of his 'advisers' that would not have told him to keep his mouth shut on the issue.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 12:54

They sound like him-him to me, saffron.

Trying to sound 'posh' admittedly.

TheClaws · 16/05/2017 13:02

It's his modus operandi, Cozie. If he doesn't tweet something on the issue, people will all is not right. It doesn't have to be the truth. Or, it can be the truth, and we won't know it, as he's the quintessential boy who cried wolf - or man who cried 'fake!' It reassures his fan base, reassures himself, and the news cycle starts anew.
