FirstShinyRobe I agree about the political polarisation and the hypocrisy of Trump supporters: had HRC done even a whisker of the same things he has in office the uproar would be be nuclear. However, they then shift the blame in some twisting, strange manner on HRC or Obama for anything Trump is doing. Nothing is his fault. The narrative is fascinating and quite extraordinary.

(RT) North Korea claims its latest ballistic missile test successful, and says the missile has the capability of carrying nuclear warheads.

Roussette · 15/05/2017 07:52

cozie that article you linked is fascinating. He blames the Dems for talking about the election but is completely unable to move on from it himself. I think it was the best night of his life and he just wants to relive it again and again. He wanted the title but not the job.

Roussette · 15/05/2017 07:55

This article well explains DT's ignorance on environmental matters. He's a buffoon and appears incapable of looking at the bigger picture.

Roussette · 15/05/2017 08:38

'Ere we go. Voting restrictions and voter suppression. There will be strict requirements on being able to vote all under the name "election integrity". All because DT can't get over his failure to win the popular vote.

As it says, it's shrinking the pool of those who want to participate in democracy and particularly targeting the disadvantaged and people of colour. Trump is attacking voting and the man he has appointed to do this sounds a nutjob.

I would like to send this (from Occupy Democrats) to Trump and the Republican nitwits who support him out of pure self-interest; however, not sure whether he would understand it.

From the article lionheart linked (my bold):

"Andy Wigmore, Leave.EU’s communications director, revealed to this paper that Farage was a close friend of both Bannon and Mercer. He said that the Leave campaign was a “petri dish” for the Trump campaign. 'We shared a lot of information because what they were trying to do and what we were trying to do had massive parallels.'

"Wigmore also said that Mercer had been 'happy to help' and Cambridge Analytica had given its services to the campaign for free. It was the general secretary of Ukip, a British lawyer called Matthew Richardson, who effected Leave.eu’s introduction to Cambridge Analytica, Wigmore said. 'We had a guy called Matthew Richardson who’d known Nigel for a long time and he’s always looked after the Mercers. The Mercers had said that here’s this company that we think might be useful.'

"He said that Mercer, Farage and co had all met at a conference in Washington. “The best dinner we ever went to. Around that table were all the rejects of the political world. And the rejects of the political world are now effectively in the White House. It’s extraordinary. Jeff Sessions. [Former national security adviser Michael] Flynn, the whole lot of them. They were all there.'

"When the Observer revealed Mercer’s 'help' in February, a 'gift' of services, it triggered two investigations. One by the Information Commissioner’s Office about possible illegal use of data. And another by the Electoral Commission. Cambridge Analytica is a US company and Mercer is a US citizen and British law, designed to protect its electoral system from outside influence, expressly forbids donations from foreign – or impermissible – donors. The commission is also looking into the 'help' that Gunster gave the campaign. It was not declared in Leave.EU’s spending returns and if donated, it would also be impermissible. Gavin Millar QC, an expert in electoral law, says it raises questions of the utmost importance about the influence of an American citizen in a UK election."

Thanks Perking. This has so many hideous tentacles.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/05/2017 10:56

But in a way, it does explain the shocking results of Brexit and trump- there was a lot of behind the scenes manipulation and now that we are aware of it, hopefully steps can be taken to prevent a similar thing happening again.

lionheart · 15/05/2017 12:04

It will be interesting to see what can be done about these manipulations.

There is a very long 39 tweet thread from @Broadsword_Six. It says that the case against Trump and Co is huge. Watergate was a just burglary. This is a joint counter intelligence US/Foreign/FBI investigation and when revealed will shock the US to the core. it will take time and the leaks are strategically planned to destabilise Trump and his chums. There are 4 screenshots. This is message 1/2.

Gump that was interesting to read and I hope/think it is right. I've always imagined that when the time is right and the case is watertight, I will wake up one morning, put on Sky News and 'it' will have happened. The shit will have hit the fan for DT. But there has to be no going back, no way he can recover because if so he would come back stronger and more dangerous.

I am hoping that it is all happening behind the scenes and it's just a matter of time and patience. 9th May was the turning point then...

lionheart · 15/05/2017 13:10

woman12345 thank you for the artcle. It is brilliant to see how it has been circulated.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2017 13:15

I'll keep my powder dry on that one, I reckon.

I'm more interested in the (fairly small) number of key players who are not talking or being talked about. I doubt that they're sitting on their chaise longues sipping mint juleps. Smile

lionheart · 15/05/2017 13:15

This, on how Trump can be manipulated, is also unnerving: www.politico.com/story/2017/05/15/donald-trump-fake-news-238379

Lweji · 15/05/2017 13:18

Regardless of what happened in the election, everyone, including the Donald should be worried about Russian interference. People get elected for all sorts of reasons and flukes, particularly in close runs.
He was lucky at best and at least he could acknowledge that. And should stop talking about his voters and the others. He's leading the country, not his supporters. Or should.

It's doubly worrying he wants to overlook any foreign influence in this election.
And I do hope they get him.

lionheart · 15/05/2017 13:19

I worry that wishful thinking with regard to Trump's downfall makes us more likely to believe whatever seems to chip away at his Empire and his minions.

But I am also hopeful that there are enough people like Sally Yates and others who will hold the line and get the job done even if it takes time.

Slow and sure is better than not at all.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2017 13:22

Blimey, lion. (That piece on manipulation.) I don't think I'm surprised but to see it brought together.......

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/05/2017 13:25

On New Day, m.youtube.com/watch?v=gBjkAB4ZF5s they're saying Trump is seeing the new president of Turkey this week. This week!

cozietoesie · 15/05/2017 13:49

And when you also read that piece on manipulation? Put the two things together?
