lweji didn't trump repost that tweet 20 minutes after it appeared on a trump's fans subreddit? Got his fingers on the pulse of what's important, that president

In order to marry devout Catholic Callista, Newt had his second marriage annulled on the grounds that his wife had been married previously.

Preet Bharara @PreetBharara
So apparently @realDonaldTrump DID have his "wires tapped" in Trump Tower. Case closed.

A slight detour. The SNL skit on the Amazon Alexa 'Silver' is very funny: Had me and DH hooting.

FirstShinyRobe · 14/05/2017 20:30

Massive thank you to all of you posting on these threads. I'm sure there are lots like me reading but not posting & are so grateful for your efforts.

I too find the political polarisation exceedingly difficult to stomach. Consensus (i.e. Adult) politics is increasingly rare and those that wish to pursue that tack are just nullified. Crikey, if Obama couldn't get much to stick, then all hope is lost, really. He was the very definition of considered and collaborative, with the intelligence to back it up. Disagree with his politics, but at least have the decency to think about why he arrived at that point and, for a huge proportion of people, realise that's he way fighting for you too.

One thing that puzzles me about Trump supporters that occurred to me whist I was watching The Americans (no spoilers, I have a season to go!) is that these same people would be have thrown a total hissy fit at anything Russian-related only a few decades ago. The paranoia was immense! (probably rightly so) But the party political division is now more vastly more important. Amazing how quickly things change.

It's sometimes difficult to remember how fast it's been, First. For me, anyway, it feels as if it's been years.

FirstShinyRobe · 14/05/2017 20:51

I get that, cozietoesie. But many trump supporters were adults when the cold war was full on, weren't they? Anyone would think they need an enemy and any will do

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/05/2017 21:22

Love that article cozie!

Not sure if this is accurate (lacking energy to fact check atm) but thought it was interesting:

The news networks treated the Watergate break-in as a nuisance for almost 2 years before taking the Wash Post seriously.

Roussette · 14/05/2017 21:52

I can't believe DT is posting about Rose O'Donnell ... bloody hell he was like a dog with a bone for years about her. His brain must be really tiny if that's where his priorities lie as POTUS.

He's posting about Mother's Day (today in US) but can't be arsed to spend it with his wife and son. Off playing golf instead. Such a clown I had to link a pic... Grin

That is scary.

cozietoesie · 14/05/2017 22:09

Watergate was certainly a lengthy process, Pain. I can't vouch for that length of time but it might well fit.

Newt is pond scum IMO. (fitting considering his name, really) Hmm

cozietoesie · 14/05/2017 22:51

It certainly sounds as if Newt was...........influenced. Wink

The news networks treated the Watergate break-in as a nuisance for almost 2 years before taking the Wash Post seriously

I think the thing with Watergate (and I was around then, late teens) was that the American media audience demographic (meaning people of my parent's generation) couldn't easily believe that a President would be behind such an unethical and illegal action. And Deep Throat was talking only to Woodward & Bernstein so other sources couldn't get independent confirmation of what the Post was printing.

Journalism was VERY different then than it is now. No one led with 'rumors', half-told stories, and he said/she said. Plus you had your daily paper and three 1/2 hour national evening news shows, not 24/7 in your face coverage where they have to report everything to fill up the schedule and keep the audience on channel. There was Viet Nam and the protests and that was the big news then. A burglary at some hotel wasn't even a blip. As things unfolded it was on the news more, but it was a storm on the horizon and didn't really blow up until the Senate hearings started in in '73.

It was just a different society then. People weren't as demanding of 'the whole story NOW', they were more willing to wait for 'the whole story, when all the facts are in'.

1/x Trump admin aims to kill the #IranDeal without violating it. Expect same pattern this week as when DoS certified Iran was in compliance

2/× Right after the verification, to prevent any positive repercussions with investments flowing into Iran, Trump began attacking the deal

3/x This was done to calm down Israel, Saudi and others, but also to neutralize the positive impact the certification could have

4/x Same can be expected with the waivers. If Trump renews them, expect more verbal attacks, hints the US will withdraw from the deal etc

5/x Such a move will infuse more uncertainty into atmosphere, cause int businesses to hesitate about doing lawful business in Iran.

6/x End result is a situation in which the US may appear as not violating the deal while in reality working to kill it.

7/x IMPORTANT: US is STILL violating #IranDeal if it's deliberately preventing lawful investments to reach Iran, even if waivers are renewed

cozietoesie · 15/05/2017 01:16

This is some leaking if true.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2017 01:24

I wonder, also, if the GOP has commissioned new private polls? Eg it would make sense to do so in Montana because Pence went up there at the weekend to stump for Gianforte and the last polls - from back in April, I think, had a single digit lead.
