Sorry, my most recent comment above related to the question of whether the GOP and the USA would ever recover from Trump. I hope that makes sense (more sense than Trump. Please God.).

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 17:26

They will - if they change. They can be stronger, even. At the moment, though, there are clearly two nations - some 'bringing together' has to be effected. And that would likely mean changes to the Constitution.

Lweji · 13/05/2017 17:28

Spicey chose this job and is currently covering up for 45

True. But I do wonder if he's "free to resign". It would look terrible.

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 17:29

It surely would. It's his call to stay though. Smile

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 17:31

After all. Would you stay? Smile

lionheart · 13/05/2017 17:35

I assume that those who are aligned with Trump are greedy and unscrupulous or that they have no choice because they are already in it up to their necks. Maybe both for some of them.

Dumdedumdedum · 13/05/2017 17:35

Exactly, cozietoesie - there must surely come a point where Spicer's Sense overcomes Trump's Sensibilities?

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 17:38

They're running very fast, lion, certainly. That can also be a management tactic - a bad one long term - for controlling people. 'Keep 'em Busy' etc.

Lweji · 13/05/2017 17:38

Would I stay?
It depends. Would it involve upsetting a bully with links to the mob and Russians who like to defenestrate people? Then maybe not.

Meanwhile, have we had this recent speech by Obama? Star At the JFK Foundation.
At about 15 min, on the courage needed for those in elected seats to stand for the vulnerable, sick, etc.

MsHooliesCardigan · 13/05/2017 17:39

I do find him kind of morbidly fascinating. I just don't understand why he's so full of utter hatred at practically everyone. I work in mental health and I've met hundreds of patients who have suffered the most appalling abuse and neglect but none have of them are as filled with hate as DT. He literally seems to have no redeeming features. Some of his actions like instantly repealing Obamacare and Michelle's interventions in schools seem to be driven by nothing more than petty spite.
I know one of his brothers died from alcoholism apparently from not being able to cope with the demands of their 'perfectionist' father but he has 3 other siblings that appear to be relatively normal - I think one of his sisters was a judge.

Lweji · 13/05/2017 17:40

Sorry, I meant to say "maybe I'd stay" or "maybe I would not leave". :)

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 17:47

Potential defenestration would certainly give someone pause for thought - although I would hope that other considerations would win through.

That speech makes me sad. I do promise to watch it in its entirety later, though.

CaveMum · 13/05/2017 17:55

Michelle Obama speaks out on the roll back of her healthy eating campaigns:

"In thinly-veiled criticism of the policies of the new administration, Mrs Obama told the audience: "This is where you really have to look at motives, you know.

"You have to stop and think, why don't you want our kids to have good food at school? What is wrong with you? And why is that a partisan issue? Why would that be political? What is going on?"

She added: "Take me out of the equation - like me or don't like me. But think about why someone is OK with your kids eating crap.

"Why would you celebrate that? Why would you sit idly and be okay with that? Because here's the secret: If someone is doing that, they don't care about your kid."

Lweji · 13/05/2017 17:56

Just for ayyylmao (hoping they weren't defenestrated).

What the Trump boys have said in the past about Russian money and how that doesn't fit with the current official position.

Lweji · 13/05/2017 17:58

"Why would you celebrate that? Why would you sit idly and be okay with that? Because here's the secret: If someone is doing that, they don't care about your kid."

Yes. And who was that guy who was initially nominated to be Secretary of Labour (or something) and owned a fast food empire? Hmm

Lweji · 13/05/2017 18:11

Just a couple more clips.

Sorry if I missed earlier postings.

Ah. The 'Doofpot' - I remember that. Grin (Pax to anyone here who speaks Dutch.)

Here you go. Smile

White House staffers

Lweji · 13/05/2017 18:36

Some Fox news are not so complimentary of Trump.

PS: There seems to be some confusion on how to pronouce Rosenstein.
Tapper corrected Kellyanne, but many, including on this clip and Colbert pronounce it as Kellyanne did: as for Springsteen.

MsHooliesCardigan · 13/05/2017 18:37

Michelle is awesome. I really wish she'd stand for President although I totally get why she doesn't want to.

Dumdedumdedum · 13/05/2017 18:39

MsHooliesCardigan - yep. Part of it is that she probably has a much better relationship with her former President husband than Hillary (or Melania, for that matter!).

Dumdedumdedum · 13/05/2017 18:42

Lweji - A non denial denial? The President trolling? I don't know where to put myself that this could possibly be accepted as usual behaviour from a President.

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 18:44

I saw that Chris Wallace/Shep Smith piece earlier - and they do sound fairly scathing. Smile

cozietoesie · 13/05/2017 18:45

You saw the back-references to Nixon, Dum? (Oblique though they were.)

Week 26 will be coming to you later from the road, so please excuse any typos. This week's list is 90+, and as such, I've done my best(1/2)

Replying to @Amy_Siskind
(2/2) to tie sub-plots together; but there is just so much, of so many varieties of #notnormal
