AIBU to say only psychopaths support fox hunting

the kind who would laugh at and enjoy watching kittens being set on fire (animal cruelty especially early in lifeis a marker for psychopathic tendencies)

Because it's just the same as that. Animal cruelty plain and simple.

Imagine a group of thugs chasing a terrified animal to give it a horrible death

Now imagine they are posh people on horseback

VILE

Theresa May makes me angrier every day. Disgusting excuse of a person.

I don't give a shit if you live in the country or anywhere in fact and foxes are a nuisance to you - kill them humanely if you must!

And actually I think cats should be banned before dogs. They decimate the small bird and mammal population especially in urban areas that can least afford to lose them.
But no one says anything about that because it's "nature" and their owners are asleep whilst they rip some poor furry apart.

Elphaba99 · 10/05/2017 17:35

Oh lordy, the old chestnut. "Why don't you also care about this, this, this and these other 1000 issues" as if people are only capable of being opposed to one thing at a time? So presumptuous.

I dislike gratuitous cruelty to animals for the entertainment of humans. Clear enough? As it happens, I'm also opposed to badger culling, dog fighting, factory farming, human trafficking and a whole host of other things. But this thread is about hunting.

And you can be opposed to something for reasons other than jealousy or class. I detest Katie Hopkins, but it's not because of class issues, or jealousy. Such a lazy argument.

Orlandointhewilderness · 10/05/2017 17:36

YABU.

I won't post any more than this one post as there is simply no point. I just wanted to say that those of you who are adamant it is a 'posh' sport are very wrong. Hunting is a very big part of my life and has been for many years and I have met a very equal balance of people from every walk of life who hunt. No one care when you are on a hunter, everyone lands in a puddle at some point whether you are a king or a dustman.

Nancy91 · 10/05/2017 17:38

There is something wrong with anyone that agrees with hunting. They need therapy.

HashiAsLarry · 10/05/2017 17:39

Exactly elphaba

worridmum · 10/05/2017 17:42

Humans kill humans, should we arrange for purges of humans to keep the murdering down? aka like the movie purge

Ratatatouille · 10/05/2017 17:44

Orlando what a shame you couldn't have found friends through music, a dance class, a community centre or any of the other zillion ways the rest of us manage Hmm

I stand by my comment because it is 100% the truth about my experience. Perhaps your experience is different but that doesn't make me "very wrong", any more than my experience makes you wrong.

It's disingenuous to pretend that this is a pastime enjoyed by all socio-economic groups equally.

StoatofDisarray · 10/05/2017 17:44

What elphaba said!

SquatBetty · 10/05/2017 17:45

I find it such a fucking pointless cruel 'sport' to take part in.

If you hunt, please tell me how you feel at the end watching the fox being ripped to pieces by the hounds - does it excite you? Or do you turn away because it's a horrible thing to watch - but then that would make you a massive hypocrite, wouldn't it?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 10/05/2017 17:46

Disgusting that anyone even tries to justify this vile, cruel "sport". Shame on everyone that does it.

Blimey01 · 10/05/2017 17:47

Yanbu. It's totally vile

MissBax · 10/05/2017 17:48

I don't understand how this is even being debated, do people honestly support hunting??? And yes, before anyone asks. I am vegan.

SapphireSeptember · 10/05/2017 17:49

Whenever anyone talks about fox hunting this springs to mind...

I used to watch the Animals Of Farthing Wood, which I think influenced me a lot in my views on fox hunting, but 20 odd years later I still despise it, yes foxes can be a nuisance, but I stand by leaving them be as long as they're not bothering anyone. (This applies to rats, badgers, moles and anything else I can think of. They live here too, they have as much right to live as we do.)

Haliez13 · 10/05/2017 17:50

I used to hunt when young. I don't think we ever actually caught a fox as the pack was pretty useless, but that never seemed to be the point. It was an amazing ride - all about the horses and the other people and the speed and the unexpected nature of it all.

I've done drag hunting as well which is also a lot of fun, but a bit more predictable.

Haven't hunted in 20 years now, and generally think it's easier to keep it banned than not, but I think it's a bit hysterical to say it's all a bunch of psychopaths wanting to murder foxes. As someone else said up thread, I won't post here again as I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be much point, but figured it was worth saying once.

MissBax · 10/05/2017 17:52

Haliez Oh well as long as you had an "amazing ride" that's all that matters eh.

And no its not about the people and the horses. In that case take a horse ride. It's about the Fox. Yno - the being that's running for its life. Rank.

Ratatatouille · 10/05/2017 17:57

"won't post here again" = "don't have a robust enough argument to defend my disgraceful choices"

MissBax · 10/05/2017 17:59

Ratatatouille here here! 👏

Ratatatouille · 10/05/2017 17:59

If it's all about the horses and the "amazing ride", why not just go for a ride? Why does killing a fox make it better?

Oh sorry, forgot there would be "no point" in you sticking around to actually have a discussion Hmm

kali110 · 10/05/2017 18:02

Yanbu At all, i've already signed that petition, however my dh has shared it to his wall to get others to sign.
Fox hunting sickens me.
I have no idea how anyone can justify it. I think there is something wrong with a person who enjoys chasing after a terrified animal and then watching as it is torn to shreds.
Scum.

Littledidsheknow · 10/05/2017 18:02

Most people that own chickens (or rabbits or similar animals) seem to hate foxes with a passion

Rubbish. I live in the country and used to have chickens, many of my friends still do. Fox got them all. I considered to be my fault for inadequate fencing and "locking up" too late on occasion. Every owner knows the risks and it is their responsibility to keep their animals safe.
Can't hate a fox for being a fox.

kali110 · 10/05/2017 18:04

Haliez13 well as long as you enjoyed your ride?
Why not just go for a ride?
Oh right, there's no poor defenceless animal at the end for you to kill.

won't post here again" = "don't have a robust enough argument to defend my disgraceful choices"
You've got it in one.

LadyPW · 10/05/2017 18:05

How are you guarantying a kill shot? No farmer is going to go traipsing after a fox through woodland if it's only injured. It could take days to die from starvation or infection.
Verysad - I'm not unfortunately. I wish that would be the case. I still think it would probably be a more pleasant death than by being ripped apart after being chased, but I'd much rather it was only shot by someone capable of killing it with the first shot. Well I'd actually rather it got to live peacefully since it has as much right to be here as us (or more)

happypoobum · 10/05/2017 18:06

I used to keep chickens and the local foxes never touched them. I now have a family of foxes living in my old chicken shed Grin

I think people who hunt foxes are utter cunts.

LadyPW · 10/05/2017 18:07

Basically, people who want the foxes dead are psychopaths according to the OP, yet it's fine that we are losing our chickens, ducks, lambs etc.
Well you can certainly take steps to protect your chickens. Potentially your ducks too.

Nowwhatsthis · 10/05/2017 18:11

I don't understand how this is even being debated, do people honestly support hunting??? And yes, before anyone asks. I am vegan.

There is a massive difference between fox hunting and normal hunting.

A majority of people eat meat and it has to come from somewhere! Hunting is the most humane way to get meat.

Fox hunting is completely different.
