AIBU with my friends?

PhyllisNights · 19/04/2017 21:24

I'm the first one in my social group to get pregnant. I talk to my friends on a daily basis through WhatsApp and see them all in person at least once a week.

As it's my first pregnancy, I'm very excited. I can't stop talking about it. I'm so lucky, so happy, so fortunate & so privileged. My baby feels so special, like I know my baby will do something incredible in this world - I can feel it!!

And yet, my friends have started to turn on me. They've become very jealous. They make snide remarks, they mimick me & give me side eye. I feel like my pregnancy is the butt of all the jokes.

I can't help that I've been so blessed and so fortunate to get pregnant out of my friends first. I went to college, uni, started a professional career first & got married first. I've just always been up step ahead - I can't help it!!

Would it be unreasonable to sit my friends down and ask them to stop being so negative? I want to ask them to support me better and help me out.

Duchess Deal!!

GinAndTunic · 21/04/2017 18:53

Anyone with... a new kitchen

Phew! I'm in. I've not a drop of Irish blood in me so was sulking at not being invited to the party. But I had a new kitchen put in last year!

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 19:00

They were chipped and awful and I thought I'd multitask and take it off while monitoring the fajita mix.

Ex's partner called. Long story short, ex and I have been having a dispute over contact, this morning I emailed ex to say not to pick DD up from activity this evening, they could get her tomorrow instead. I picked her up early in case he showed up and brought her home. So I'm stripping my nail polish when ex's partner calls and says she's at DDs activity but she can't see DD. I said didn't he tell you. Her reaction was so priceless I knocked the nail polish remover off the edge of the table laughing Grin

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 19:01

Oh, everyone welcome. Honorary Irish passports for everyone 🍀

plaintomatopasta · 21/04/2017 19:02

I'll have a new kitchen when we move! Plus a new bathroom that has a bath in it! My 2yo has never been in a proper bath more than three times! I'm also a bit ninja and I have an Irish surname... any chance?

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 19:06

Of course, tomato! All welcome!

Any title suggestions for the new thread, since we're nearing the end? will link here. I'm thinking something like "fajita Friday Irish kitchen baby shower extravaganza"

HerBluebiro · 21/04/2017 19:18

Can I join in? I'm not Irish (although throng to persuade dp to get Irish passport sorted) and only had two siblings and I'm back to dark brown (mmmm chocolatey) after toying with bottled jinja for a few years.

But but but. I am planning a new kitchen. Got sent pictures of it and everything. Knocking a wall down and expanding 6f or the back. Doubling in size. It is going to be lush! All wooden work tops (I don't care it might go mouldy). Slate floor, smooth fresh plaster (there is no better feeling). An oven that will cook something rather than merely threaten food poisoning. An American fridge. A table. Bose speaker on the wall. Lights in the kickbacks and ceiling and in cupboards and underneath. I'm going to be the fucking illuminations.

And now I want a pop up microwave. Oh I really do.

OP:AIBU
MNM (mumsnet massive): YES
OP: but my friends aren't doing what I want them to do
MNM:They don't have to. Here's a grip. (Also some side kitchen bragging/planning)
OP: but I'm just so awesome. It makes no sense.
MNM: you lost us at ponies and vegan fajitas.
OP: I'm so good with people skips off happily to cook fajitas and discuss PFB with friends.
MNM: WE NEED A NEW THREAD. NOW!

This. THIS is why I love mumsnet.

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 19:24

How does everyone feel about "Fajita Friday 2.0: Celtic Kitchen edition"?

HerBluebiro · 21/04/2017 19:28

I like it! Then my distant Scottish blood can let me in legitimately

zeezeek · 21/04/2017 19:28

OMG DD1 and I are watching an old rerun of Keeping up Appearances and I've just realised that the OP is Hyacinth Bucket 😂😜

MyNewKitchen · 21/04/2017 19:31

Ooohh.... you should hear about my new worktops. I don't have time to talk about it though, I am off too feed my unicorn my homemade gluten-free-vegan-friendly food...

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 21/04/2017 19:44

I'm so upset you're not one of my friends. Your prescious darling sounds like his/her birthday will be a right hoot

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 19:56

Can anyone recommend any of those wipe able paints, btw? For the new kitchen? Worth it or shit?

PurpleDaisies · 21/04/2017 19:57

I did the valspar test and their blend v something paint is great.

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 20:05

Thanks, purple. so many uses, this thread.

What's everyone's plans for the weekend? attempts to get the party started so she can start a shiny new thread

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 21/04/2017 20:11

GaelicSiog I have a DP and DC night free tonight. That about sums up my plans. The sofa and tv have never looked so good!

OP, im not really sure what you have against Peppa Pig Grin. It tastes delicious 🥓
Anyway, my DC doesn't watch that either. Only teletubbies will do in this house (or frozen). I am however putting her education first. I'm very happy to say that she LOVES beauty and the beast (well the songs) which I think it pretty good going Grin

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 20:14

Maybe OP is vegan, Peppa? she never said who the vegan fajitas were for.

Night to yourself sounds great! I'm psyching myself up for a call from dd's dad, but so far he has been strangely silent. I'm planning a to marathon once DD is in bed too.

Wonder what time OP will make it back from fajita Friday?

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 20:15

In fact, maybe this is her diet plan for PFB. Raw vegan?

HerBluebiro · 21/04/2017 20:39

I'm worried if we full up this thread there will be no space left for op to tell us how vegan fajitas with her not good enough to be worth the effort friends went. If she was able to muster up enthusiasm for anyone else's events without damming then for eternity for not being up to scratch.

I'm dying to know if anyone has picked up the gauntlet to fight the good fight and do the baby shower

Disclaimer: wine may have been had. I'm not sure my metaphors flow

DukeOfBurgundy · 21/04/2017 20:53

There was a thread on here years ago when MNetter confessed that in the maternity ward she secretly felt sorry for all the other mums cos their babies weren't as beautiful as hers

Ha! Everybody feels like that really, don't they? I definitely pitied everyone their rubbish ugly babies. But, you know, in my head.

Can I join Fajita Friday? I'm not Irish or ginger and I don't have a fancy schmancy kitchen. I am Aries though. And vegetarian. So possibly slightly more tolerant of vegan fajitas.

GinIsIn · 21/04/2017 20:55

We have the valspar. It's good. We colour matched to farrow and ball because I am very nearly almost as posh and naice as the OP....

PurpleDaisies · 21/04/2017 20:57

Which colour did you go for fenella? I tried painting with farrow and ball once and hated it. It was so thin. Colour match all the way here.

SparklyGlitterPants · 21/04/2017 21:00

@Her

I've offered to host #tatesamazeballs #pfsb (precious first snowflake baby) #babyshower in my brand spanking (don't have the keys yet) builders finish gaff. It only has room for a family of 6 and our gazillion extended family members but no ponies so I don't think it's big enough for the ops taste. Sad

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 21:03

I'm on it, her. I'm all ready to set a new one up but then the posting slowed Wink
