AIBU with my friends?

PhyllisNights · 19/04/2017 21:24

I'm the first one in my social group to get pregnant. I talk to my friends on a daily basis through WhatsApp and see them all in person at least once a week.

As it's my first pregnancy, I'm very excited. I can't stop talking about it. I'm so lucky, so happy, so fortunate & so privileged. My baby feels so special, like I know my baby will do something incredible in this world - I can feel it!!

And yet, my friends have started to turn on me. They've become very jealous. They make snide remarks, they mimick me & give me side eye. I feel like my pregnancy is the butt of all the jokes.

I can't help that I've been so blessed and so fortunate to get pregnant out of my friends first. I went to college, uni, started a professional career first & got married first. I've just always been up step ahead - I can't help it!!

Would it be unreasonable to sit my friends down and ask them to stop being so negative? I want to ask them to support me better and help me out.

Anything is superior to that damn pig. Or talking Piggy as DS calls it. I haven't found a more aggravating cartoon yet!

WildIrishRose1 · 21/04/2017 17:35

Gaelic 💐 🌯☕️ (deference to antibiotics) As my own mother would never say: "fuck 'em; fuck 'em all!"

kali110 · 21/04/2017 17:46

I'm sorry op but you don't have self awareness and you can't read people as well as you think you can.
Is the fact that not one post on here supporting you, not telling you something?
You may not realize it/want to but you come across very pretentious and stuck up.
It's no wonder your friends are fed up. I'm wound up just reading your comments!
Making friends with other mothers isn't going to help if you act the same way as they aren't going to want to spend time with you either.
You also have no idea if any of your friends are struggling with health/infertility issues.

Just because you are close does not mean they have to/will disclose everything.

If you came out with this by me
My baby feels so special, like I know my baby will do something incredible in this world - I can feel it!!
It would be the last time i was with you.
They basically don't want to give up their lifestyle and put the work in.
I can surely ask one of them to arrange my baby shower for a few months time?

These are the reason you are getting eyerolls and snide remarks op.
If you can stop with these your friends may be able to engage with you on your pregnancy.
If you've been friends so long it would be a shame to lose them.

Gaelic, Wild - am I still allowed in if I categorically cannot bring myself to eat vegan....?

Bedrooms-wise, the 3 are half siblings and didn't live with us so we were 6 kids at home. My parents chose to go down the Tom Hanks 'Money Pit' route and buy a dilapidated 8 bedroom pile of bricks. So we all got our own bedroom, but no heating, dubious hot water and all 6 kids grew up very good at DIY....

SparklyGlitterPants · 21/04/2017 18:00

Just found stuff for a fry up in the fridge. Can we pleeaasseee do Full Irish Fajitas?

Lovewineandchocs · 21/04/2017 18:00

Can I come? I'm Irish too! 😀 Thanks to you lot, I've amended my Asda order to include the ingredients for fajitas 😀 Gaelic I'm not a redhead but am said to be fiery-I'll help u give the wicked stepmother what-for! 😀 Your own Irish mammy sounds great btw. Cheers! Brew

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 18:00

Of course, Fenella. Vegan choices entirely optional.

That sounds... Interesting Grin this may be the way ex is heading. Ex and his partner seem to be taking Irish families to a new level. At least DD will be able to fix all my lopsided curtain rails.

Chippednailvarnishing · 21/04/2017 18:04

Mmm, Fenella white pudding fajitas.
Interesting.

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 18:06

love, with dedication to fajita Friday like that, how could we say no? passes Guinness

Lovewineandchocs · 21/04/2017 18:07

Slainte! 🍀

SnapCrackleOutOfIt · 21/04/2017 18:09

I was thinking this might get pulled overnight but no - wow OP is for real!

ItsCakeTime · 21/04/2017 18:12

@GaelicSiog...

Bedroom arrangements; 8 of us in what started as a 2 bedroom house ( thought they were huge) Parents in 3/4s of one room, stud wall (I think thats the right phrase) thrown up to make a small room for the brother.

And then the 7 girls in the other room.

My second oldest sister likes to point out regularly that she has never (ever ever ever) had a bedroom of her own usually when Wine has been taken Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2017 18:13

OP, my SIL is Aries (not a redhead) and though she's an achiever and extremely clever etc (double first from Oxford) she certainly doesn't and wouldn't bang on about it bad form dontcha know!

I was right about the PFB and entitledness and I hadn't even read your choice parenting part...

I wish you luck. You're hard work. Wink

GinIsIn · 21/04/2017 18:16

Gaelic it has left me with a lifelong passion for tiny, manageable houses!! Grin

nosyupnorth · 21/04/2017 18:19

oh god the kid isn't even out of the womb yet and op has already doomed it to a life of having to constantly compete/measure up to it's cousin

WildIrishRose1 · 21/04/2017 18:19

ItsCake 7 girls in the one room!!! How did everyone know whose clothes / makeup they were stealing??? I shared with one, extremely tidy sister, who was forced to create a duct tape line down the centre of the room from sheer desperation 🛍👭

IfeelFloopy · 21/04/2017 18:28

I don't know why everyone seems so sure that OP isn't real. I've seen many people who seem to behave this way.

I keep seeing posts on my fb newsfeed of a girl (friend of a friend) who posted the following things: posed pregnancy announcement photo with her, her bf and her son, a scan picture, a heartbeat sound video, gender reveal video and photos, video from the scan of her and bf finding out the sex of the baby, multiple pregnancy photos and updates about the pregnancy. She is absolutely ramming it down everybody's throats and she needs to bore off!!

My bf and I have recently started TTC and if we are lucky enough to conceive I will certainly not be posting it on social media. No-one wants to be bored with the detail and I'd hate to look attention seeking. You are focused on all the wrong things, a baby shower because without one you'd be embarrassed!? I'd rather have zero attention than forced fake attention from family and friends.

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 18:31

7 in one room????? cake I cannot thank you enough for sharing this, DDs stepsister has a heart attack at the thought of sharing with one Grin

I'm the youngest by quite a lot for my family between me and number 9 IYSWIM. Other two sisters I shared with were higher up the hierarchy than I was. I think they wanted more than duct tape at times... #annoyinglittlesister

PovertyPain · 21/04/2017 18:39

cake. I know what you mean. I shared one room with two sisters and three brothers, until we moved, when I was 10. There were three in a bed. 😄 We also fetched water from a well and used Tilly lamps until we got a generator. We moved to a large house, with running water and electric. I still remember standing flicking the light in and off. Aye, we knew how to entertain ourselves in those days. 😳😆

milliemolliemou · 21/04/2017 18:40

@Gaelic @Irish

I am jinja. We are jinja!

No I'm not. High proportion of family is carrots or blonde. would love to be jinja. Any research into whether it's echt Irish or just Viking invasions of Dublin etc.

duchess22 · 21/04/2017 18:40

I think I'm going to have to nip to tesco for fajita stuff, Gaelic if I bring the latest Wickes catalogue can I come for tea? Grin

GinIsIn · 21/04/2017 18:42

I have a margarita!!!! Unfortunately the baby has fallen asleep on top of me and I CANNOT REACH THE DRINK ON THE COFFEE TABLE! If anyone would like to pop round and pass it to me, I can make you a chicken fajita....

GaelicSiog · 21/04/2017 18:45

Welcome millie! honorary jinja!

Ohhhh duccess, please do. I've just split nail polish remover all down my non tiled kitchen wall (don't ask) laughing hysterically at my ex's latest cock up, I'm at least going to need new paint Blush Grin

duchess22 · 21/04/2017 18:52

Fenella - if it means I don't have to cook tonight I'll be with you in 10!

Gaelic - I can't even imagine a scenario where that could happen, some kind of slapstickesque trip over a rubber chicken with an already open bottle of nail polish remover? Grin
