To think cheap shampoo is just as good?

Feedback and tips please. Got chatting with some girls at work, much younger. All have fab, straight, silky hair. Mines not so bad I thought, but one of them said you can tell I use a cheap shampoo (not in a nasty way - I said i used cheap shampoo and they said
It shows...)

it's fine. it's the conditioner that makes the difference as is a good hairbrush imo.

I changed shampoo to an expensive one after my hair was breaking off in chunks half way up the shaft. An expensive specialist shampoo and conditioner fixed it.

How can that not be nasty?

What do you mean by "cheap"? I find standard branded stuff (whatever is on offer in boots) does the job just fine, but I wouldn't put my faith in a supermarket "basics" bottle.

My hair always feels amazing after the hairdressers but I just assumed they worked magic. I'm starting to think I am hair clueless.

I think conditioner is more important.

I use the 99p coconut ones from home bargains! I wouldn't know what to spend my money on if I'm honest!

I find I need way less of the expensive shampoo and I have started washing my hair every other day so it is not much more expensive.

Yy to good conditioner. Try one of the Herbal Essences as a mid range supermarket buy and see if you notice any difference.

And the more I think about it, maybe they were being bitchy! I just assumed they let comfortable enough to be honest with me!

Expensive shampoo is much better. It doesn't have to be £££. I now use Elvive thickening shampoo - it's about £7 I think. But my hair isn't the limp, brittle mess it was when I used poundland rubbish.

What counts as cheap?

I use Tresemme cos I get through a lot so the big bottles are handy.

I use cheap shampoo. Alberto Balsam about £1 a bottle. I can tell if people don't wash their hair very often, or if it's greasy by looking at their head but not if the shampoo is cheap!!

It really does make a difference on my hair. I get a lot less breakage with decent products, a weekly intensive treatment and a good heat protector. Kerastase is good. I find it lasts much much longer than cheaper products so doesn't work out much more expensive over time.

I love Living Proof shampoo but as it's £££ I'm currently using Alberto Balsam (cheap as chips). I think the difference is down to decent styling products.

I've got very thick, coarse wirey hair. I swear by bedhead, and paul Mitchell. Supermarket shampoos make it even more dry or greasy!

I have heard that soap is soap is soap .... you can wash you hair in any, shampoo bars of soap washing up liquid etc it will all get it equally clean.

It is conditioner that matters, that is what makes the difference to the quality of your hair.

Take the money you have and buy the cheapest shampoo and then the most expensive conditioner you can afford.

Products should I be using products? Sometimes I use serum but that's not often.
