To think cheap shampoo is just as good?

Feedback and tips please. Got chatting with some girls at work, much younger. All have fab, straight, silky hair. Mines not so bad I thought, but one of them said you can tell I use a cheap shampoo (not in a nasty way - I said i used cheap shampoo and they said
It shows...)

My hair is really thin due to steroid use. I can really tell. I sometimes use cheaper shampoo when I am not going out but when I am going out somewhere nice I use more expensive thickening shampoo. I can really tell. I wish I couldn't!

Roomster101 · 02/04/2017 15:51

My hair is blonde so i use cheap purple shampoo.

What is that? I am blonde but have never heard of purple shampoo.

Gottagetmoving · 02/04/2017 15:55

I have used expensive shampoos but no use Herbal Essences which is cheap. My hair looks much better now.

Gottagetmoving · 02/04/2017 15:55

Now use..not no use.

Christinedaae17 · 02/04/2017 15:55

It makes a difference to me but I have coloured hair and supermarket brands just fade the colour terribly. I use shu umeru colour lustre but I buy it off all beauty and only wash my hair twice a week so it's cost effective

MrsPinkCock · 02/04/2017 16:10

I always thought shampoo was shampoo. My hair was battered and colour damaged but I just figured it was my hair.

Went to a new hairdresser six months ago who recommended a whole heap of products. The difference in a few months is outstanding. I actually have glossy, nice hair now that I don't have to shove into a ponytail.

I switched to shampoo, conditioner, and heat spray. It's made a huge difference.

Bought the L'Oreal Pure today on offer in Superdrug off the back of this thread, will report back!

Usually use Toni & Guy or the pink Elvive, but everything seems to make my hair awful these days, can the peri-menopause make you hair go weird??

Gottagetmoving · 03/04/2017 17:42

can the peri-menopause make you hair go weird??

Yes.. Hmm
The actual menopause can make it bloody worse...!!

FoofFighter · 03/04/2017 20:30

Feck :(

Well used my new 'poo, smells nice, dp says hair looks a little less frizzy already, only needed the tiniest touch so even when it's full price it'll be worth it, assuming it suits.

Does it take a few washes for silicon etc to wash out does anyone know?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 03/04/2017 20:55

Foof a clarifying shampoo will rid your hair of silicone build up. You only need one deep clean with it, then you can carry on with the Pure stuff.
The best clarifying shampoo I've found is cheap as chips Vosene anti dandruff shampoo.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 03/04/2017 23:50

Fairy liquid also good for clarifying before you go non-silicone.

Bethany4 · 24/02/2019 09:57

What is the best anti dandruff shampoo that DOESNT strip hair colour? 😢

Jazzybeats · 24/02/2019 09:59

I’ve worked for a large company the makes shampoos.

I can tell you in many cases the base formulation is the same. The difference is fragrance and texture.

SerenDippitty · 24/02/2019 10:10

I use John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Rich Radiance Shampoo and conditioneron my thick, colour treated hair. Only wash it once a week so it doesn’t work out expensive. I tried Ultimate Blends once left my hair feeling like straw.

Chickychoccyegg · 24/02/2019 10:21

my hairdresser loves alberto balsam, but uses tigi and kerastese on her clients as they beleive it works better, her hair always seems to look fab but she never uses expensive products on her hair.
i use elvive or dove, whichever one is on offer when i go to the shop

malificent7 · 24/02/2019 10:27

Lidl 50p shampoo and vonditioner are the best. All the posh shampoos leave a residue.

malificent7 · 24/02/2019 10:29

Conditioner.

I do use loreal thickening shampoo occassionally but it does leave a residue. Lidl coconut makes my hair glossy, tangle free and smelling great.

Piglet89 · 24/02/2019 10:40

In terms of hair being fragile and breaking, I think genes are probably more important than anything. I have really coarse, thick hair (like, each strand is heavy and thick). It rarely if ever breaks halfway up the shaft and that’d be the same whether I used a cheap or expensive shampoo. I have inherited this hair from my mother. Sadly, I’ve also inherited her crazy amount of early grey hair and look a bit like a badger. 🙄

I use T gel as had a very itchy scalp problem, so at least I’m a healthy, glossy badger.
