For all those who think trans politics doesn't affect you or your daughters - please read this article of a male forcing women out of their sport and the authorities are letting this happen. If you don't give a shiney shit about this incident - what exactly will it take for you to sit up and take notice and start saying enough.

This is nothing more than a first world problem. Get over it

Yeah just like Trans rights are a first world problem. If we women need to get over it, so can they.

Morphene · 19/03/2017 21:30

Ithink well quite. It isn't fair...it was never about fair.

Pentapus · 19/03/2017 21:33

Maybe what's needed is for "cis" women (not happy with that term, just using it to be clear) to DECLINE to compete in events with a transgender individual.

Might make major news if there was an international sports competition event with only one competitor., and thus underline the ridiculous nature of what's happening.

JacquesHammer · 19/03/2017 21:33

ego but women from private schools are only achieving what women physically can.

I think there's a genuine difference between disparity of opportunity and disparity of sex - with all the physical differences that brings - to the point the latter could be a genuine risk for women in contact sports

HeyRoly · 19/03/2017 21:34

because having male DNA doesn't automatically make a man a world-beating athlete

True, but a man can be really mediocre at his sport when competing against men, and wipe the floor with the best females in the world. That's the issue.

ShakingAndShocked · 19/03/2017 21:35

Missswatch 'By the looks of all the transphobia on MN...'

This is a genuine question. What do you mean when you say 'all the transphobia'?

Do you mean people saying trans folk are x/y/z [insert prejudice of choice here] which patently is transphobic, or do you mean those of us who have very genuine concerns about the erosion of women's rights/safe spaces etc?

Pentapus · 19/03/2017 21:35

This is nothing more than a first world problem. Get over it

No, it's happening rather a lot in "second world" economies too.

MsGameandWatch · 19/03/2017 21:35

The point is noone is owed a career in sport, precisely because there could always be someone out there much more gifted than you.

Or just happen to be a bigger, stronger man.

I'm a bit confused, you seem to be saying that women athletes should now just be content to accept that they'll work at lower levels within their sport and accept that competing at international level is probably out of their reach now that trans women are moving into the ranks?

egosumquisum1 · 19/03/2017 21:36

Maybe there should be categories like in boxing?

Not sure how it would work? Weight? Strength?

Then people from different categories could compete within them?

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:37

Does anybody deserve a sports career?

No. But if we allow men to compete in the women's section`?

There will be no women's section left... (well, female section. Sex, not gender, obviously...)

And what about amateur?

Is your 19 yo daughter expected to do Judo against a 19 yo male? What about boxing? Rugby?

The likelidhood of her dying or being permanently injured would be heightened. Does anybody really want that?

Skooba · 19/03/2017 21:37

It depends on the type of sport. Silly to compare say badminton with boxing as stronger mtf transgenders boxing, in rugby or martial arts will cause serious physical damage to weaker women competitors.

stitchglitched · 19/03/2017 21:37

'The point is no one is owed a career in sport'

Exactly. So why are transwomen being accomodated to the detriment of female athletes?

HumphreyCobblers · 19/03/2017 21:37

And that trans women should on no account think that they have maybe an unfair advantage and choose not to cheat compete against women in sport?

Skooba · 19/03/2017 21:38

Xposts

colouringinagain · 19/03/2017 21:39

YADNBU.

Exactly as Heyroly says.

JacquesHammer · 19/03/2017 21:39

*Maybe there should be categories like in boxing?

That wouldn't work in rugby for example (my area of expertise so am sticking with as an example!)

I've made this point before, but I'm a wheelchair user who isn't the "right kind of disabled" to take part in the paralympics.

How can a male person decide he is a woman and take part in female competitions, yet actual disabled people can't take part in disabled competitions?

It feels like a dream world right now, tbh.

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:41

Not sure how it would work? Weight? Strength?

Weight? Why?

Do you think a 65 kg female is as strong as a 65 kg male? Her lung capacity?`Heart? What about her bone density (is that the English word? Basically how hard they are...)? No.

I mean, I guess in the lower weight levels there would be no men, so that would be female against female...

So, anybody that isn't naturally petite (or underweight)... I mean, do we really want to do that to women and girls? Seems like we'd be creating people with EDs.

ageingrunner · 19/03/2017 21:41

Even if one happens to have a natural aptitude for a particular sport due to biology, there's still a hell of a lot of training and dedication required to actually win anything, no matter what level you compete at. It must be incredibly galling to watch a male born person, who would be mediocre if they competed against their own sex, come in and start winning everything.
If transwomen are so desperate to compete, they should not transition and compete against others of their born sex. It's outrageous that this is being allowed.

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:42

I've made this point before, but I'm a wheelchair user who isn't the "right kind of disabled" to take part in the paralympics.

Don't worry. I feel disabled. I'll take part for you...

Jesus Christ. (I'm not ridiculing you. I'm just annoyed.)

BeyondUser24601 · 19/03/2017 21:43

Women's football. Female goalies are generally not as good as male as they have about half a foot difference in height on average, yet in the same size goal.

So if 6"2 DH decides he'd like to play for liverpool, he'd have quite an advantage over 5"11 goalie Siobhan Chamberlain...

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 19/03/2017 21:46

Don't worry. I feel disabled. I'll take part for you...

My greyhound feelz human and is limbering up for the 💯 m at Tokyo 2020.

GerardNoWay · 19/03/2017 21:46

Are people really drinking the Kool Aid on this issue?

Why should identifying as a woman trump actually being a woman? Why are we pandering to this like it isn't obvious that women's sports will become dominated by men who identify as women?

It's been said time and time before but a man can not become a woman, biologically. So an athlete or sportsperson should not be able to compete as a woman if they possess a man's biology.

It creates an unfair advantage that cannot be altered with hormones or treatment. They will always have a man's body.

But we need to suck it up, lest we be branded transphobic Angry

DickToPhone · 19/03/2017 21:47

"Stitch- perhaps she felt like she needed to do such a "manly" sport like weights initially due to not feeling like a man. Then over the years even being the manliest of men hasn't helped her feel less female. So now she is honest with herself and family and friends.
Should she have to give up
Something she loves and has worked hard for all her life?"

Uh, it didn't happen like this AT ALL.

He was junior weightlifting record holder. But then when he got older he wasn't good enough. So he become an administrator.

Now he has 'transitioned' to 'become' a 'woman', and he can go back to being a champ like he was as a junior. Even though the current MALE junior is far better than he ever was. This is the new junior record holder: owa.nz/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/David-1080x675.jpg What happens if current junior wants to transition when he, like 'Laurel' is 40, so he can have a go at beating up wiomen, being too old to compete against men.

Attached is 'Laurel' 3 years ago, when he was known as Gavin. Yes with the full beard.

It makes a total mockery of sport when people like Laurel Hubbard, Lauren Jeska, and Gabrielle Ludwig, can be competitive in their 40s and in Ludwig's case their 50s. www.espn.com/espnw/athletes-life/article/10170842/espnw-gabrielle-ludwig-52-year-old-transgender-women-college-basketball-player-enjoying-best-year-life

You might as well just say 'fuck it, women's sport is HISTORY, done, it's been a fun few years, but women don't need their own sports now, they can just watch the men'. Because the conclusion of trans 'women' competing against actual women is that the actual women lose.

So what is the fucking point? Just shut it down now.

To be fucking furious this is happening to women's sports
VeryBitchyRestingFace · 19/03/2017 21:49

It's been said time and time before but a man can not become a woman, biologically.

These days, it's transphobic even to suggest a man becomes anything.

They've always been women, they were simply incorrectly assigned a male gender at birth on account of their female peniz.
