To promote her new film. Can't these A listers just wear a classy outfit?

With regard to this apparently pernicious 'male gaze'. If a woman wants to dress or present herself in a way that seeks to attract male (or lesbian) attention then what's wrong with that. By doing this she's not inviting them to leer and drool over her physique to the exclusion of the rest of her, but to notice and recognise her physical form as part of her attraction. And yes, breasts are part of this... they obviously have a key function in feeding babies (which our society widely recognises) but this doesn't mean they don't have a sexual purpose too. No amount of feminist hectoring could or should stop breasts being sexually attractive. Clearly context is vital... a man who allows himself to lust over a nursing mother needs some lessons in self-control, but most straight men will naturallyrespond sexually to boobs if a woman decides to 'present' them in a way that invites it. It's up to the man to determine the context and respond appropriately in a respectful manner.

Agree cocnutella

Feminists can deny it all they want but men are wired to find boobs attractive and they will

Elendon · 02/03/2017 15:21

Can someone please explain to me what exactly Emma Watson has done for feminism. By the way I think her breasts are gorgeous.

A UN speech for a start. More than any 'feminist' poster on MN

Elendon · 02/03/2017 15:23

Men are wired to find boobs attractive?

What sort of shitty bad science is this? Brains are not wired - Frankenstein was a work of fiction.

Elendon · 02/03/2017 15:25

There have been lots of women who have given UN speeches. Some of them might also be mothers too. And feminists. I like to think they read mumsnet and it's not just for the proles.

Elendon · 02/03/2017 15:28

Miss

So those who post on MN are just saddos? Not getting into making a speech for the UN?

You underestimate your intelligence as a human being.

Persemillion · 02/03/2017 15:30

PoorYorick

I'm struggling to get worked up over this, and usually I find Watson incredibly irritating.

Exactly! She is quite obnoxious. I would love to have a go at her, but not on this subject.

BertrandRussell · 02/03/2017 15:32

Why is she obnoxious or irritating?

TizzyDongue · 02/03/2017 15:33

I suppose women in the west are not free at all. The fact they can vote, own property etc

Nope. Not as free as they think

Meanwhile in the middle east.....

I can't quite work out if you actually mean that women in the west aren't as equal as they think. Or you are you trying to making out women in west should shut up and put up with the current patriarchal society because women in the Middle East are extremely disadvantaged, and some have no rights at all?

Of course women from the Middle East would see life women in the west live as more equal, yes women in the west have more rights. But there's still victim blaming of rape victims, inequality in the workforce, high rates of women being killed by men to name a few issues. Women 'disappointing' other women for their clothing (because we haven't moved on from objectifying women so much that what she wears matters and means society has a right to interpret and act towards her in whatever manner they feel the clothes mean.

Problem is for 'womem in the west' is they have more along enough for the western patriarchy. Enough is enough, stop there - now add to the fight for equality the fight against labels such as 'feminazis' and the deep dislike of the patriarchy disliking that true equality would mean men losing their privileges and sharing them with women.

quencher · 02/03/2017 15:33

I don't really care wether she was topless or not. Walked naked or covered in fabric thicker than a duvet.

I have stated my thoughts. Mainly, not directed at her but to defend other feminist and my views. To argue against misconstrued ideas of feminism here on what should and shouldn't be feminist.
More pics please. I might start to like her. I doubt it will make change my mind about her being the face of bleaching cream for women of colour.

Feminists can deny it all they want but men are wired to find boobs attractive and they will I would disagree and say it's more to do with socialisation.

BertrandRussell · 02/03/2017 15:34

"No amount of feminist hectoring could or should stop breasts being sexually attractive" I don't think feminists would want to.......

Elendon · 02/03/2017 15:39

More Greer, who posed naked in her youth and middle age.

quencher · 02/03/2017 15:47

Free the breast and let women be free. More women should not fear to breast feed.

From what we know, some men say they are breast men and some say bum, legs, hair, feet, or whatever tickles their fancy or fetish. I guess not all men them?

To generalise breast as something you can be wired with from birth is a bit much when we are all different as people. Things we see and grow up with influence our taste too.

Missswatch · 02/03/2017 15:48

The other crazy thing is that feminists want men to stop staring at boobs and finding them sexual, yet are fine to check out men with a six pack and a good body

shovetheholly · 02/03/2017 15:50

Am I the only one amused that Greer is being put up as a beauty contestant to be compared with Watson, rather than being admired for her work (which I dislike, while simultaneously recognising that it was important, even seminal, to many women of her age - I found it quite eye-opening to read early reactions to her work and realise how many women genuinely felt a sense of liberation on reading it).

BertrandRussell · 02/03/2017 15:53

Misss- I suspect you of taking the piss now. Nobody could be that stupid and still be able to walk and talk at the same time.

BertrandRussell · 02/03/2017 15:54

GermIne Greer is only a feminist because she is so ugly.

TizzyDongue · 02/03/2017 15:58

You're very misinformed (or a prime example of someone who thinks women have enough equality). Feminists don't want society to stop staring a boobs. They want society to thinking that because they can see a woman's breasts it gives them total right to do what.
they want with the woman who the breasts are attached to. They want women to be ale to dress like Emma (and it's not like she's not topless, in just a thong and thigh high pvc boots supine across a bondage swing with a dildo in her mouth) without being judged.

JAPAB · 02/03/2017 15:59

From what we know, some men say they are breast men and some say bum, legs, hair, feet, or whatever tickles their fancy or fetish. I guess not all men them?

That they have a preference does not mean that they cannot find other parts attractive. Just like with women I am sure. I don't know whether the right term is "hard wired" or "genetically programmed" or "genetically predispositioned", but I do think there is something innate in many to find particular parts of the opposite sex attractive and capable of producing a very positive reaction, shall we say. Titnosis can be a very real thing.

Elendon · 02/03/2017 16:00

That's an absurd observation Shove but if it amuses you then that's your choice and I'm sure you feel empowered doing so.

RebelRogue · 02/03/2017 16:01

Well OP seems to have got over her disappointment(and lost interest) pretty quick.

mewkins · 02/03/2017 16:01

She isn't topless though. She is wearing a top.

TizzyDongue · 02/03/2017 16:05

(and it's not like she's actually topless, or* in just a thong and thigh high pvc boots supine across a bondage swing with a dildo in her mouth)

shovetheholly · 02/03/2017 16:05

I just don't think that comments like "I think she looks less attractive than Germaine Greer" really get outside the male-dominated view where women are judged first and foremost by their looks, their clothing, and their gendered demeanour. To my mind, any woman who engages in, or sets up, competition on that kind of terrain risks supporting the diminution of women to their appearance alone which is what feminists should be fighting against.
