To promote her new film. Can't these A listers just wear a classy outfit?

Arf at thinking that posing topless is "empowering" Grin

That's not topless, it's implied nude.

Bananamama1213 · 28/02/2017 20:08

I love Emma Watson and I'm super excited about this film. But I am actually quite disappointed in that outfit choice. Judging by all the articles/pictures I've ever seen of her, she seems quite reserved. But this doesn't show that?

pinkjumper · 28/02/2017 20:09

Oh no.

Woman exposes part of her breasts.

Shock horror Shock

Hmm

Women have breast. Big deal.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 28/02/2017 20:10

YABU. And she is not topless.

Being feminist doesn't mean you are anti-toplessness. In fact I know some very ardent feminists who say that being forced to be covered up is a form of oppression against women.

PoorYorick · 28/02/2017 20:10

Maybe she's not just one thing all the time. I would imagine she could probably earn a huge amount doing tasteless shoots for lads' mags. I'm struggling to get worked up over this, and usually I find Watson incredibly irritating.

Guitargirl · 28/02/2017 20:10

I also think it's a really poor choice to promote what is basically a children's film.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 28/02/2017 20:11

But Mute you are putting YOUR ideas about female empowerment on to another woman, who may well have completely different ideas to you. That is not very feminist.

Arealhumanbeing · 28/02/2017 20:11

I used to feel like you do, OP.

Then I realised that it's a lot easier to criticize women for showing their bodies than it is to tell men to change the way they respond to it.

PoorYorick · 28/02/2017 20:13

I don't think a picture like this is aimed at men, tbh.

CoolCarrie · 28/02/2017 20:15

Sorry but she is a rubbish actress!

Shellym13 · 28/02/2017 20:16

She's gorgeous, I don't see a problem. It's not like she's baring all. Wish I looked that good.

fannydaggerz · 28/02/2017 20:16

If my boobs looked like that, I would wear that to do the school run.

PoorYorick · 28/02/2017 20:17

She's an awful actress and a beautiful woman. I think she should do more of the photos and less of the films.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 28/02/2017 20:17

Hideous hair style if nothing else

PoorYorick · 28/02/2017 20:17

fannydaggerz, imagine the parking threads you'd start!

BertrandRussell · 28/02/2017 20:17

I would like to hear what she had to say about it. The outfit certainly seems pretty uncharacteristic......

ApplePieLikes · 28/02/2017 20:17

Can't stand Emma Watson or all these other feminista-limousine celebrities who brag about how right on they are all the frigging time, Angelina Jolie and her UN crap, on and on, these privileged women who think its sooooo brave to virtue-signal at every opportunity at zero cost to them.

But the photo, just the usual self-advertisement [meh].

ollieplimsoles · 28/02/2017 20:17

I'm with showme

This photo is not a feminist issue, its a 'does she look good in this photo issue' which is subjective.
You don't automatically stop believing in equality for women because you pose for a magazine cover with part of your breasts exposed.
I always found women who called themselves feminists but chose to occupy their time on the issue mainly to dictate what fellow feminists should and should not be wearing very tiresome.

BonnieF · 28/02/2017 20:19

Her body, her boobs, her career, her choice, her business.

Who am I to judge?

lazytuesday · 28/02/2017 20:19

pooryorick yes exactly its not pornography and is not intended for the specific enjoyment of men. Its a high end fashion shoot! You cant even see her nipples and shes not posing in a sexy manner, she is just stood there with her arms folded.

Posing topless can be empowering for certain women, in certain contexts its really up to them!!
Personally as a young girl idve been very happy to see a picture like this as i have very small a/b cup breasts like Emma and i was very ashamed of them because they werent like a Barbies or any of the cartoon women i saw. To see them depicted as beautiful would certainly have been empowering to me. They arent being shown off as sexual they are just being depicted as beautiful, as the rest of her is. They are photographed in an interesting way which is unique to her, so to be honest in terms of it being empowering to young girls i think it could be argued that this is somewhat!

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 28/02/2017 20:21

I agree that that's not a photoshoot aimed at men, and B&TB and its marketing is not film aimed at men (nor does it need to be when such a huge number of women aged between 2 and 50 are counting the minutes and seconds until its release).

EW loves fashion, always has, and if you're saying that she should cover herself up because a man might see her slightly exposed flesh and have impure thoughts then Saudi Arabia is thataway.

tabithakitty · 28/02/2017 20:22

This is bad! When famous women do stupid shit like this, it perpetuates all sorts of gender stereotypes, the most basic one being that a woman's appearance is the most important thing about her.

Young women need better role models than this, shame on her!

And I CANNOT believe we still have page 3 topless models - maybe celebs topless posing has something to do with it.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 28/02/2017 20:23

Isn't the context that "sex sells". She is being photographed like this to advertise a film...

ollieplimsoles · 28/02/2017 20:24

mute

Relax....she is still a good role model for your dd, Shes dedicated, educated, hard working, ethical and articulated... Shes also posed with her breasts partially on show- this doesn't take all the other things away the second the camera shutter clicks.
