To ask how much you spend on grooming/maintenance?

Hello all,

I was going to ask on Style&Beauty but figured the responses there would be quite skewed and so I came here where there would be unbiased responses and traffic.

At the train station yesterday I saw this young lady who looked very well put together. Her outfit was coordinated, nails done, eyebrows done, makeup done but not overly so. The thing that stood out the most though , was her hair. It looked lovely ; highlights and nice cut (ha can't explain well enough) and she just looked like someone who took pride of the way she looks. I've since spoken to my friend about this and the possible cost of such upkeep. That got me wondering how much others here spend on their grooming and upkeep.

Clothes; Makeup; Nails; Hair; Eyebrows; Eyelashes; you get the jist !

Hair- cut every couple of months, £120 a time
Facial- every couple of months, £100
Nails- maybe once a month at £30
Brows- once every couple of months, £25
Make up- maybe £100/year. Don't wear it often.
Clothes- I don't buy much at all but tend to buy quite expensive things- maybe £2k/year

I don't think I look well groomed at all- quite a scruff really.

Clothes - £150 a year
Hair - £100 a year
Nails - £150 a year (gel toes, occasionally gel fingers)
Eyebrows - nothing
Eyelashes - nothing
Make-up - £50

Basically hardly anything but I'm not a particularly well groomed looking person. I wouldn't fit the description of the lady you describe. But I look neat and tidy.

I'm just outside of NYC in a town where prices are on par with Manhattan. Averaged out I spend about $125 a month including hair (single process with cut every 10-12 weeks), waxing is $25 every 3 weeks. Then there are bunch of expenses like good razors, creams etc. I only use the Gillette razors with the gel strips.

Haircut, £20 every couple of years.
Make-up maybe £50.00 per year.
Face wipes/cleanser/moisturiser etc. Maybe £10.00 per year.
I'm a elderly scruffy mare!

Haven't had a hair cut for 3 years. Don't get nails, eyebrows etc done. Don't wear make up.

Haven't bought new clothes in years either.

Don't have the money.

£55 on my hair every 8 weeks. (cut and colour)
Um, occasional clothes purchases online or at the supermarket maybe averages at about £30 a month including shoes (mostly exercise clothes because I love them).
That's it. But I am a massive scruff. I don't really wear makeup because I'm at the gym most days or hanging out with the kids and I CBA. Mostly knock around in the aforementioned exercise clothes.

Hair cut, colour every 6 weeks £100.
Facial/brows/ Brazilian every 4-5 weeks £90
Pedicure every month £50
No idea what I spend on clothes or makeup. Maybe £2k a year.

Just to be clear I work in a professional role where it's expected that I'm turned out to a certain standard each day. If I was a SAHM the spend would be much less. Just on clothes I spend about £100 a month. Would love to be able to wear exercise clothes everyday!

Hair £35 three times a year (used to get highlights but cba with the upkeep even though a colourist friend did it for 20 quid)

Makeup maybe £150 a year?

Eyebrows and nails nope.

Haven't a clue about clothes but I don't spend huge amounts except for dm boots and proper trainers for my awful biomechanics and dodgy feet.

Probably a bit of a scruff too but I scrub up well when I can be bothered to put in the effort

Virtually nothing, other than usual hygiene items such as shower gel, toothpaste, shampoo etc
Last haircut was about 3 years ago (will go again asap), cost £35.
Dye my hair about every 4 months - about £3.
Toiletries, body lotion, handcream,etc usually come from Aldi so very cheap.
I don't wear make up. I clean my face with baby wipes.
For hair removal I have a lady shaver. Nails I just cut short and buff with a buffer. I do usually varnish my toenails in the summer.

Sorry, should have mentioned clothes. Probably about £100/ year.

Eesh. Too much, but it's a good thing for my job and a great thing for my mental health, so:

Hair - £120 a time for a cut and colour, usually once every 3 months or so plus I buy quality shampoo, conditioner and treatments so that's another £60 or so broken down, that's £60 a month.
Make-up - I reckon an average of £40 a month, I buy very good quality make-up because I'm precious about my skin.
Skincare - This is my downfall. I suspect I spend the best part of £60 a month - but it works!
Other cosmetics (razors, cotton pads, body wash etc) - £20 a month.
Clothes - I'm quite frugal with clothes and tend to shop for good quality stuff but in the sale plus top up with some supermarket bits (Sainsbury's clothes are great) so maybe £30 a month?

So it's about £210 a month which is the majority of my monthly "personal spending" budget.

On the bright side, I do my own eyebrows, don't get waxes or my nails done, and my skin is so well-looked after that I only ever have a facial as a treat, maybe once a year if that.

It will definitely have to change when DH and I have a family but I have to say, I'll do anything to avoid giving up my good skincare and make-up!

Hair - £70 every 8 week plus home hair dye £10 every couple of months

Nails - nothing - bite then!

Treatments - facials, pedis, massage etc a few times a year - maybe £250 across a year?

Clothes - average £50 a month

Make up - I have a massive prob with makeup - prob few hundred a year. I love it. Could live in the beauty department.

Skincare - I suffered from adult acne so spend a lot to keep skin clear. Face wash £50 every 3 months, moisturiser £50 every 2 or 3 months, exfoliator £35 every 2 months, eyecream £40 twice a year.

Christ. That seems a lot...

I've never added it up before, but am pretty horrified now:

Haircut and colour £150 (every 8 weeks)

Blowdry £25 (every month or so)

Eyebrow Threading £7.50 (every 2-3 weeks)

Nails £50 (every month or so)

Dermatologist and skincare products works out at around £100 a month

Clothes - probably spend around £2k a year

The irony is I feel a bit of a mess most of the time . Definitely need to rethink some of this. I have to say that the dermatologist and specialist skincare is worth every single penny though - lifechanging.

I'm having my hair cut and coloured this weekend which will cost about £90 and i haven't had done in 6 months.

I don't get anything else done and wax my own legs with cheap strips from Boots.
I spend far more on grooming my dogs than myself ;)

My mum pays for me to get a haircut when she does; it works out well for her as she feels awkward calling the hairdresser out just for her and I wouldn't bother otherwise. I also pay for my kids to have their hair cut every other time so that its me or the kids and so mum isn't paying every 6-8 weeks for me.

Other than that I buy shampoo and deodorant and that's it. I don't tend to wear make up or do anything fancy with myself. MIL gave me a pair of ankle boots that she bought for her DD and that didn't fit so my work shoes are those.

Am always intrigued though by people who do spend a lot on themselves and are good at make up. I'm in awe of people who can apply make up so well; it's an art form!

£500 on hair every 12 weeks (this is my one big extravagance in life), about £350 a year on makeup, eyebrows £20 is every two or three months.

Forgot to add the prices: my hair cut is £25 and the kids are priced at their ages, so I pay £11 altogether which will go up to £13 after DDs birthday in the summer.

Nails - £25 every other week
Hair - £60 every other month
Eyebrows - Semi permanent tattoo - £150 per year.
Makeup - (maybe) £500 per year
Clothes - I'm not a designer clothes kind of person; more next and other high street shops.

I have had a few years where I have had v limited money to spend on me, we are just coming out the other side of mat leave, nursery fees etc. For the last 6 mnths it had been:
Hair 150 every three months
Nails 50
Makeup/skincare 100
Eyebrows 12 (threading)

Also having teeth whitening/botox and hair removal laser this year( all v subtle) so that will be expensive. I know it is extravagant but I have spent next to nothing for 5 yrs and am really looking forward to investing in myself. I dont smoke, dont really drink and have no expensive hobbies.

I only really buy clothes 2 a year winter and summer sale and buy what I need then which may be £300 or more the most I have spent is £1000 but that included a coat I have worn for 4 winters. I spend nothing in between apart frm underwear and tights.

Haircut - twice a year 2 x £25
Make up - about £20 a year
Toiletries - about £10 a month
Clothes & shoes - £30 - £40 a month
Don't do anything to my nails, brows, lashes, feet etc. No gym membership, facials or massages.
So roughly £600 a year which is way more than I thought I would have spent before I worked it out.

Hair around £40 per year. (1 cut and dry)
Make up and nails £20 per year. Buy my own and do it myself
Eyebrows, waxing etc DIY

Clothes probably average £400 a year max.

My face and hair have got to the stage where lack of grooming makes me look a lot older. I'm starting to try to put more effort in!

Hair cut every 7 weeks £45 , colour every 5 weeks £36. Eyelash and brow tint once or twice a year before a holiday. Nails once or twice a year ( Christmas or special occasions only) I'm quite low maintenance but I'm a SAHM.

When I worked I would have a manicure and pedicure once a month on top of my hair cut and colour. Must have spent an absolute fortune over the years.

Hair - £15 hair cut every 6 weeks (was £5 mobile hairdresser and might well go back to that). Tresemme shampoo & conditioner every day.

Face & Body - £2/3 shower gel, £4/5 face wash every day. Do own hair removal, basic nail care etc. Don't ever wear make up.

Clothes - nothing expensive, supermarkets, TK Maxx, M&S. No idea what it adds up to over a year. Don't spend lots on shoes, typically £25-£50, and just have a few pairs for each season. Have a pair of long boots that DH brought me the 2nd Christmas we were together which were about £300 and I thought that was extortionate! But I've worn them a lot so cost per wear is pretty good now! Just have one handbag in the £50 region. Just tend to wear the same stuff and replace when it's past its best. No idea what I spend in a year - I've just ordered £100+ stuff from TK Maxx but brought more for choice, I expect to send half back - I'd estimate £50 a month would more than cover it.

I work part time in a professional role, but just wear black trousers and a top, or wool jumper dress, I used to wear suits but never do now.

I just have no interest in fashion, or make up etc.
