That is why it is even more important not to shout down the leavers who are appalled by Trump, "I told you so"ing puts people on the defensive, and will not encourage them to call out other leavers.
Sorry this thread is moving so fast I've forgotten who posted this now but I totally agree.
I've followed all of these threads and they're keeping me sane but some of the 'hmm' faces and 'told you so' comments to snap make me want to eat my own head. You only win elections if enough people change their minds.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 10:38

There is also a huge outcry for everyone to cancel trips to the US. Tourism money could take a huge beating on this.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 10:39

Floisme I only said I told you so about Trump wanting to be the Dark Emperor Trump. Grin

Although I would like to think he was probably offended by the drawing circulating of him as Jabba the Hut.

If we were in the EU, our voice would be much stronger. I hope the other EU leaders step up and call him and her out
Fingers crossed.

snap you have got exactly what you voted for. A UK that is heading towards having to renegotiate with the EU whilst begging for scraps from the US's table. Theresatheappeaser is just going to have to suck it up as we've stalemated ourselves into a position of no power.

M0stlyHet · 29/01/2017 10:40

Ginger - can you link to the NYT article about the governor of North Carolina? Sounds very worrying indeed.

That's Pat Mcrory. He was very unpopular in NC. Lost the election. Disputed it.

This. No one could have predicted this. We need to make trade deals but do we need to dance with the devil?

MOstlyHet - here. I don't know the details of the NC case, but it is concerning.

snapcrap - sorry, I did not mean to imply that voices like yours were absent because you weren't speaking up, I was referring to how things are reported iyswim. Flowers

Sorry for helping to derail, but I think there is an important paralel point to be made.
Right now, there will be a lot of Trump voters who are beginning to feel very uneasy about Trump. I know that the temptation will be to say "I told you so!" But this must be resisted. To those in the US - who do you think Republican politicians are most likely to listen to? Republican voters, or Democrat voters?
Shaming regretful Trump voters will discourage those people from speaking out. And we NEED those people to speak out.
When you're house is on fire, you don't waste time arguing about whose fault it is. You put the fire out, and failing that, you save who/what you can from the flames.

And Trump hates us laughing at him so more please.

Here's a bit more on the McCrory thing. Just for background info. Sound familiar? Voter fraud?

Splodgeinc · 29/01/2017 10:48

Greatest thread ever etc...sorry am late to party, do you think a petition to the uk government to condem trump would get any traction? Does anybody know where how to protest against him. Emailing my mp now

Floisme · 29/01/2017 10:48

Well said squishy

Chippednailvarnishing · 29/01/2017 10:48

Ginger I don't think Trump has given any consideration to the US tourist industry. He wouldn't be banning entire nations from visiting the US if he did with more countries planned. The only thing we can hope is that other countries start boycotting Us companies like Disney, Apple & Google with a hope that this exerts pressure.

M0stlyHet · 29/01/2017 10:49

Thanks, Ginger.

woman12345 · 29/01/2017 10:49

I hope a lot of people - no matter if they voted Leave or Remain - speak up about this
agree amisparticus
Now more than ever it's important for people to tell MPs and join with local politicians to tell them what they think.

do we need to dance with the devil?

No, but we may have to if we aren't unified against Trump.

If people start dividing along leave = trump, remain = anti-trump lines, as things stand at the moment the UK is pro Trump.

Watch. Trump will "back off" on Green Card holders but keep going with rest of unconscionable moves. Press will report "compromise!"

If you'd like to work a more targeted boycott, have a look at the Boycott Trump app - tells you who's supporting him so you are hitting him personally not just the U.S. [economy].

Chippednailvarnishing · 29/01/2017 10:52

I think you're being naïve Squishy
You only need to read the comments section in a number of newspapers to see the support Trump has. Interestingly this is an excuse often used for Hitler's rise.
