Well, May better come out blazing and fast. This is not good.

May has missed the boat on that one. She should have made a statement in Turkey. Eventually it was dragged out of her that US immigration laws were their business. After landing at Heathrow, at about midnight, she came up with a half statement that 'if British citizens were involved.....' note the conditional if. We already know her attitude on Human rights. Anything said now is too little and too late.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 09:46

Elizabeth Warren is excellent. She showed up last night at the airport, waded in, had a megaphone, was directing people, helping, getting help in.... amazing.

Re: Trump and Charles, like it or not the Queen and the D of E are very old and even if they could just about cope with Trump in a couple of months, they aren't going to be active royals for much longer.

I very much doubt that the younger royals would be anything more than minimally polite to him - they also have to think about the 'optics' (and do appear to have some principles).

Andrew might be up for grabs, but he must be quite far down the pecking order now.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 09:47

Peregrina I agree re Turkey. She'll make herself a hypocrite the moment she speaks out, but if she doesn't, she's still a hypocrite because she said she was not afraid to be frank with Trump.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 09:49

Andrew. FFS. Now there's someone I could see trying to launch a military coup. Not successfully, mind you. Grin Can you imagine him as King? Terrifying. At least Charles has some restraint and is very up on climate change and such.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 29/01/2017 09:50

Another except from the link made by Merrymouse:

'When do you do these things? You do these things when you’re elevating the symbolic politics of bashing Islam over any actual security interest. You do them when you’ve made a deliberate decision to burden human lives to make a public point. In other words, this is not a document that will cause hardship and misery because of regrettable incidental impacts on people injured in the pursuit of a public good. It will cause hardship and misery for tens or hundreds of thousands of people because that is precisely what it is intended to do.'

'This document is the implementation of a campaign promise to keep out Muslims moderated only by the fact that certain allied Muslim countries are left out because the diplomatic repercussions of including them would be too detrimental.'

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 09:50

I was just trying to find out a bit more about the national security council and what it's powers were and found that their website has been taken down! Did we know about this? I knew the EPA and other climate change stuff was down, but this suggest they are planning some pretty sweeping changes.

What a difference 12 hours makes:
David Gauke, representing UK govt on Marr, says Trump's ban "divisive" and could be "counterproductive".

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 09:51

You see?!?! I TOLD you all days ago that he wanted to be Dark Emperor Trump. You just watch - he's not building a wall, he's building a bloody Death Star!!!

merrymouse · 29/01/2017 09:51

I agree squishy. This is way beyond leave and remain.

NickAngel · 29/01/2017 09:52

Is there any argument for Trump being denied access to UK? if I remember Louis Farrakhan from Nation of Islam was banned and there was recently a guy from Canada ( I think) who was denied too (Julian Blanc??) I'm also fairly sure I read about leaders of an anti-Muslim group being denied too.
Is this a possibility with regards to Trump?

Neville Chamberlain..... is THAT why so many people are putting #Chamberlain ?!?! I completely missed that. Thanks for that

Oh yes, British History teaches us a lot.

We even have our own Lord Haw Haw on the internet. Yes, Hopkins.

That's a fantastic thought!

originalmavis · 29/01/2017 09:56

But is there no one there saying 'ok, so we want to super vet people - here's how it will work... for this long, that result...'? He just says 'ban all people from x,y,z?' and it happenens NOW? Where does that happen? North Korea?

Dear god, this creature has the codes to launch a nuclear attack. One joke too many about his hair, face, dodgy business deals or his constant talking bollocks and it's curtains for us all.

StumblyMonkey · 29/01/2017 09:56

Quelle surprise....

The Fail, Express & Torygraph are leading with much more important matters this morning like....the memorial planned for Princess Di amongst others.

Hillary Clinton's foreign policy is much scarier than Donald Trump's, who does not want to go to war with Russia.

Yes - and you can see SOME leave campaigners showing their true colours now.

There were also suggestions on twitter this morning that his account could be closed down as it breaks the terms and conditions. Not sure about how this works.

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 09:57

I voted remain, but think that there are valid issue with the EU. I also don't think many people who voted leave could have seriously predicted what would happen in America in the last week. Even doom mongers like me are flabbergasted by the speed and viciousness of the trump takeover. The world has changed and we should be open to the fact that this will impact on people's opinions on brexit. It can be a hard thing to change your mind on such a divisive issue and I think people who openly do so should be given respect for that.

Lweji · 29/01/2017 09:57

That is funny.

As Sheldon would say, because it's true. Sad Angry

No wonder his mates were all upset that Rogue supposedly had anti-Trump messages.

Peregrina · 29/01/2017 10:00

Neville Chamberlain..... is THAT why so many people are putting #Chamberlain ?!?! I completely missed that. Thanks for that.

Yes, he came back from a meeting with Hitler in Munich waving a piece of paper and saying Peace in Our Time. He did not realise who or what he was dealing with. BUT (caps because it is a big but.) - Enough people had been warning about the situation developing in Germany. They were scoffed at and told, oh no, the Germans wouldn't do that, they are educated and civilised, very much like the scoffing that has been going on now. I was told the other day, that by invoking Godwin's law, I had lost the argument. I hadn't by any means and that poster went a bit quiet.

Lweji · 29/01/2017 10:00

It's interesting that the actual Executive Order only mentions Turkey. The rest of the countries depend on a list issues by the Dark Lord.

It could get bigger soon.

But it's also sadly dependent on whims.
