Let's not also forget that Remainers would also be looking a bit silly if they had won the referendum and then the Sith had taken over the EU! Grin

Remember Americans, you should be FAR more scared of your fellow Americans (and lawnmowers) than immigrants.

I watched the doc about his family recently, apparently his father told his sons that they were "killers and kings"...Shock

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 10:02

lweji that is interesting. I wonder how long before he puts Germany on the list. After all they are overrun with dangerous refugees and immigrants.

squishysquirmy · 29/01/2017 10:03

There are some leavers who are thrilled with the way Trump is acting.
That is why it is even more important not to shout down the leavers who are appalled by Trump, "I told you so"ing puts people on the defensive, and will not encourage them to call out other leavers. Trump's election is interconnected with Brexit, but it's not interchangeable.

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 10:03

Well, he has certainly taken that literally destiny. Hmm

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 10:03

Honestly had never even heard of Chamberlain in all the US history classes (admittedly, it was quite a few years ago).

snapcrap · 29/01/2017 10:04

I have already written to my MP squishy. It is the divisiveness here and elsewhere that is so heartbreaking and counter productive. I hope so much we will all unify and fast over this terrible develop, eat.

Stumbly okay fair play. When it came to my vote I took it extremely seriously. I felt I was studying for a degree I read up so much on both sides. Ultimately I voted Leave because I simply do not want us to be a part of the EU anymore and I voted for my children and future generation. I am (and fully admit this is defensive) a lifelong Labour voter and member of the Labour party. I didn't give a fuck about immigration when casting my vote (again defensive, but I've need to be in recent months with the insults levelled at me). I did not take Trump seriously and that was stupid in hindsight. But his campaign picked up apace and everyone underestimated the 'unforgotten' American vote.

Lweji re grass is greener. I never thought grass would be immediately greener. Myself and my husband will probably be poorer off for the next few years. But I fully, wholly believe in coming out of the failed experiment, one-size-fits all, bullying, wasteful, mystifying, dogmatic, EU superstate that we never voted to be a part of in the first place.

But this US development is a nightmare.

originalmavis · 29/01/2017 10:05

On my little imagination I am gathering a play list of TV shows and films that should be running 24/7 in the US to wake the Yeehaws up (as they obviously can't digest actual news or real facts).

The World at War
House of Cards
1984
Animal Farm
...

Hang on, got to go and pick up ds...

snapcrap · 29/01/2017 10:05

Exactly squishy exactly!!!!

Lweji · 29/01/2017 10:05

Let's not also forget that Remainers would also be looking a bit silly if they had won the referendum and then the Sith had taken over the EU! grin

Hmm

It could hardly take ALL countries at the same time.

Brexiters don't look silly because Trump won. But they shouldn't have hedged their bets on the US, particularly not as the elections were going.
Even if Hillary had won, she'd be pushing the UK down the line in the negotiation queue.

Neither option was good for Brexit.

All they need to do to impeach him is prove that Trump deliberately put business interests above of policy.

Destinysdaughter · 29/01/2017 10:06

Am following #Muslimban on Twitter and Tommy Robinson has come up!

Yuk

originalmavis · 29/01/2017 10:06

But can I ask people who repair tweets to say who the people are? I can't keep up!

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 10:07

From the Independent:

London mayor Sadiq Khan has issued a statement in response to Donald Trump's ban on immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, describing the executive order as "shameful and cruel".

.........
I was wondering if he was ever going to say anything. Glad he has.

Lweji · 29/01/2017 10:07

Lweji re grass is greener.

Justify voting Brexit as you like. It's fine. Just don't say the situation the UK is in now wasn't predictable. It was. By many.

Chippednailvarnishing · 29/01/2017 10:08

Is there any argument for Trump being denied access to UK?

I'm hoping he comes on a state visit and Liz will fain illness, he apparently won't be with Chaz because he might get a lecture on global warming, Wills will refuse to meet him due to comments about his mother and Harry will be too busy cutting his toenails or something. Then as a final resort he ends up in the big brother house where he compares hair with Jedward.

snapcrap · 29/01/2017 10:08

You are right about Clinton and Trump regarding Brexit Lweji - but honestly where did that leave those us who wanted to leave the EU? Should we vote against our belief and our one chance to get out of the EU because of the immediate aftermath? Rhetorical question and I don't know the answer. I also don't know how I'd vote if I had a time machine and went back to June 23 2016.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 10:09

I wonder how many UK school children will be being taught British values this week? How many teachers will be looking out for radicalised children under the Prevent leglisation? Judging by what's happening today, many adults are forming radical opinions...

But what are 'British values'?

According to Ofsted, 'fundamental British values' are:

democracy
the rule of law
individual liberty
mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

This is from the Prevent Agenda

The Government has defined extremism in the Prevent strategy as: “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We also include in our definition of extremism calls for the death of members of our armed forces, whether in this country or overseas

Maybe Trump should be banned under the Prevent agenda?

Oh, hell, and then he (Gaulke) backtracks.

David Gauke, Chief Secretary to the Treasury: The US is important for our national security. As a general rule it is good to engage with countries like the US.

snapcrap · 29/01/2017 10:10

It was NOT something that was discussed publicly at all Lweji or brought up in any debates and you know it. Play fair. Let's unify FFS and stop slinging mud at the bloody Leavers.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 10:11

Let's not get sidetracked arguing over Brexit. That helps nobody.

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 10:11

To be fair lweji I think Clinton putting us down the list a bit is somewhat different to finding ourselves dealing with a psychopath. Yes, some people may have predicted the later, but I thought I was getting a conspiracy nut and still never in my wildest dreams imagined it would be this bad.

squishysquirmy · 29/01/2017 10:12

snapcrap, voices like yours are the ones that are sadly missing from discussions abut Brexit, both in parliament and the media. I don't know for certain why that is, but it is allowing May and some hard right fringes of the Conservative party and UKIP to push forward with anti-immigrant rhetoric and policy, in the name of democracy. Remainer voices speaking out against this are ignored, because we lost the referendum, and it is assumed that the vote for leave was a vote for whatever the hard right want it to be.
I know that not all leavers are a homogenous group. But the people in charge of executing Brexit are acting as though they are.
