It was in a previous thread. The VP with others in the administration can declare him incapable.
Part of the 25th amendment.

Ratbagcatbag · 29/01/2017 08:06

The more I read the more scared I become. Can someone not overrule him at all?!? (I don't understand the constitution fully)

M0stlyHet · 29/01/2017 08:12

Washington Post also joining the dots re countries not being targeted being those where Trump has substantial business interests.

Across - your post about Flynn excluding the heads of the military and intelligence communities from the national security council leaving only Trumpites present is terrifying. As you say, it's misdirection: what else is flying in under the radar while we're all preoccupied with the horrendous and blatant human rights violations going on? Do you have a link?

I really don't understand what this ban is supposed to achieve.

Has somebody tried to explain it in a logical, rational way?

SouthernNorthernGirl · 29/01/2017 08:17

I've been reading since the first thread, this is the best thread by far. The best. It's beautiful. It's amazing.

It's an alternative fact that this is not a placemark

Anyone who says this that it is, is lying and a false MNetter.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 08:19

The federal judge put out a stop on the ban for those already detained and those that were still enrt to the US so they could not be deported. They still are being detained, however. Some are children, infants, and at least one I'm aware of is very pregnant. Many are green card holders, which means they have been granted permanent residence in the US. This scares me a bit as I have ILR in the UK - if the UK government decided to do this, I'd be one of those people too, even though 10 years ago the UK government gave me that ILR that states I have the right to reside in the UK indefinitely/for the remainder of my life. Getting my citizenship would cost me much more than I can afford at the moment. (over £1.5K).

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 08:20

Someone who is high ranking in Homeland Security tweeted last night (I posted it last night) that it was clear that his choice of counties was directly related to where he did and did not have business interests.

This was four hours ago..... Not quite sure where it's at now...

I am waiting for the next installment of "Trump's Twitter Rants" and "Angry Spice Announcements" to see what's going to happen next.

As mentioned previously, the NSC is Yuge. Very yuge. From what I can gather, it's cutting the intelligence people out of the National Security Council, so leaving Michael Flynn in charge (he is a white supremist and really detestable).

Apparently there are various legal things being put in place.

A number of Senators are actively (and very vocally) fighting all this.

M0stlyHet · 29/01/2017 08:24

Have managed to find the relevant article: Trump orders ISIS plan, talks with Putin and gives Bannon national security role (Washington Post). So, head of the Joint Chief of Staff and director of national intelligence - attend the committee by invitation only. Bannon (former editor of a right wing disinformation and propaganda outlet - I leave it as an exercise to the reader to draw the obvious historical comparison) routinely attends the committee. Terrifying.

Bannon gets a say in the US's national security, relations with Putin, potential acts of agression towards other countries, and the director of national intelligence isn't even allowed in the room.

Roussette · 29/01/2017 08:25

Yes, he can be got rid of, click on Pausing's youtube link with the great Keith Olbermann explaining why. It's entitled "How to get rid of a maniac President without having to get Congress to impeach" and here is another one on how to handle Trump... worth listening to.

I'm so glad of this thread to keep me vaguely on the ball.

I note Theresa May had reluctantly said she will do something if it affects us citizens. Well the BBC website tells me about a Glaswegian Iranian student stuck on holiday as her connecting flight to the uk routed via New York and apparently Mo Farah lives and trains in the US.

This needs a response in the strongest terms.

I'll email my mp today and did suggest to DH we bundle the kids in the car and protest at turnberry.

merrymouse · 29/01/2017 08:33

The problem with people like Trump and Bannon is that they really don't know what they don't know.

Obama seemed to be hoping that once in office, Trump would have to listen to advisors and would have some kind of moment of truth.

That really doesn't seem to be happening.

lionheart · 29/01/2017 08:34

It's one outrage on top of another, deliberately so.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 08:38

yes, Bannon, sorry. Wrong white supremist. Need a spreadsheet.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 08:40

This is the page for the demonstration tomorrow at Downing Street 7-9pm.

www.facebook.com/events/359732827741189/

Shows 1.6K going, and 4K interested overall. I suspect there'll be a few people there.

FarAwayHills · 29/01/2017 08:40

So Trumps strings are being pulled by a white supremacist who gets a say on national security.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2017 08:43

As many people as possible need to go tomorrow. There is one on Saturday too.

Mexico is also still deciding what to do re Trump. From Washington Post article:

While the United States is the stronger power, Mexico is not without leverage if this dispute escalates. Top economic officials have already said that Mexico would “mirror” any additional taxes or tariffs that the United States imposes. Former officials have said that Mexico could also tax corporate profits from the many American companies with operations in Mexico.

Outside of the economic realm, Mexico also has plenty of cards to play in negotiations with Trump. Last year, Mexico deported nearly 150,000 migrants bound for the United States, most of them from Central America. Without this cooperation, officials predict that the number of migrants turning up at the U.S. border could double.

At the border, Mexican officials have been important partners on a variety of tasks, including gathering intelligence on drug cartels and facilitating food inspections, often working side by side with their U.S. counterparts. Mexico has also apprehended foreigners from other countries that pose a potential national security threat and has allowed U.S. authorities access to them. That cooperation could change.

Lweji · 29/01/2017 08:48

A rather scathing opinion about the refugee order: malevolent and incompetent.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/01/2017 08:48

I'm so glad this thread is here - it's horrifying what he has done in such a short time. Really pissed off that Theresa hasn't condemned him. Bet she has sold the NHS down the river...

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 08:48

Good morning all. Just caught up on the crazyness last night. Wow!

This NSC business is actually really scary. Correct me if I am wrong, but this basically means that Trump's hangers on (or handlers?) can make unilateral decisions on all things national security without any input from the intelligence services. This surely constitutes a takeover. They could just claim that national unrest from the protests gives them enough cause to declare marshall law and suspend the rules of government. Is that feasible?

I really, really hope there are people in the intelligence services doing their jobs and working out how to stop this.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 08:49

The US military and the UK military are very pissed off as this affects colleagues who they have worked with in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I thought he was supportive of the military. You don't piss off the military in countries, do you?

Soooooo Trump filed for reelection in 2020 all of 5 hours after his inauguration. An unprecedented move, which allows him to raise $$$ from PACs for his first term. In comparison, Obama filed for his 2012 reelection in 2011.

Apparently there are already ads running in Texas asking people to donate to the Poor Ickle President because people are Being Really Mean. For no reason. And it's hurting his fee-fees. And more money always cheers him up...
