"What is an executive order?
A legally binding directive issued by the president to government officials and agencies which cannot be overturned by Congress.

They allow a president to make major decisions, even law, without congressional approval - which is controversial and strange given that America was born from an opposition to tyrannical monarchy"

Look at what the dead cats may be hiding.

Huge oil spills from pipelines.
Large earthquakes from fracking. Move away California, Oklahoma is the place.

And the man who told the EPA to shut up about it will be heading...

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:51

Hitler used a similar mechanism (I believe) to effectively become a dictator

The Emperor has dissolved the Senate. Fear will keep them in line.

Missswatch · 25/01/2017 20:52

I think he is doing a great job so far. He is actually doing what he said he'd do. Can't wait to see things improve. Meanwhile I'll pull up a chair, drink the vodka, have a smoke and see America made the best decision

Roussette · 25/01/2017 20:54

Good lord missswatch You've been conspicuous by your absence.

You might be waiting a long time. Enjoy your dictator aka The Orange One.

Good lord missswatch You've been conspicuous by your absence

Didn't see the point posting tbh. One of my buddies got banned, the other 2 are just... smoke. Things are kinda lonely Sad

Lweji · 25/01/2017 20:59

He's certainly signing what he promised.

I think many people will need a lot of vodka (funny choice of drink) to drown their sorrows. When they lose their health insurance, when their drinking water gets poisoned, when their houses fall due to earthquakes, or to huge storms.
When journalists are arrested for reporting.

It will be feat indeed.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:00

And another Trump link to 2 state registation

edition.cnn.com/2017/01/25/politics/kfile-mnuchin-voter-registration/index.html?sr=twCNN012517kfile-mnuchin-voter-registration0832PMStoryPhoto&linkId=33775502

Sir Humphrey wisely pointed out - you don't have an inquiry without knowing the answer first.

Roussette · 25/01/2017 21:00

I would say 'you'll fit in here fine and dandy' but I'm afraid I'd be lyin' (you must be used to lies from across the pond by now though!)

Missswatch · 25/01/2017 21:02

when their drinking water gets poisoned

Bit late for those in Flint, Michigan. Lets just hope he does what he promised

Lweji · 25/01/2017 21:02

Great even.

It's not funny insulting pps when you're alone, is it?

What do you think of the Great Snowflake-in-Chief?
Very Presidential.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:02

He is actually doing what he said he'd do

I bet any politician who just had to give orders without worrying about their MPs, the Senate etc would do that.

It's easy if you can just sign orders.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:04

missswatch

So who had the biggest audience at the WASHINGTON signing? Not on TV or tablet,

Actual live people watching it in Washington.

Was it Trump in 2017 or Obama in 2009?

Lweji · 25/01/2017 21:12

Bit late for those in Flint, Michigan

Yes, and under Trump nobody will hear about it and China will be blamed or something.

At this point I'm hoping he does every single thing he promised.
Then people will see they should be careful what they wish for.

thedcbrokemybank · 25/01/2017 21:19

missswatch I am new to the thread but have to say I find this utterly terrifying yet oddly compelling too. I really struggle to understand how anyone can condone let alone support this man. Please could you explain to me what exactly you think he is going to do that is going to be so great? As far as I can see he may bring some jobs (short term) back to America but at what cost? Cost to the environment? Cost to the rights of women? Cost of peace?
Is it really worth it. I truly want to understand how he is possibly going to make life better for the future.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2017 21:19

Theresa May tried that with Article 50 - tried to use the royal prerogative. Fortunately the judicial challenge resulted in the ruling that she can't just do as she wishes in these matters, that it has to go through a parliamentary process.

We were this close ->

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:20

I would like to know if there is too high a price to make America great again.

Are there are any red lines for people?

UtahGirl12 · 25/01/2017 21:23

I am just posting here to say this thread makes Mumsnet great. Mumsnet great. Oh and I have the most Mumsnet posts ever, I can see at least a million, maybe a million and a half of them, and they are beautiful. Just beautiful, and I am certainly just not here to follow links of His Royal Orangeness so that I can cry laughing at bad lip reading You Tube videos and then pass them off on Facebook shares as if I cleverly found them. That would be a most bigly alternative fact. I am not shamelessly place marking either. Mr Spicer would defend that suggestion most strongly indeed.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 25/01/2017 21:32

Place marking. Not said anything much but learnt a lot from last thread

Roussette · 25/01/2017 21:32

Utah Grin
no of course I didn't also pass off Youtube bad lip reading vid on my FB either. Course not

Not just great but important.

The influence of politicians, social media and our own bubbles and echo chambers on politics is amazing. What's also worrying is how 'they' control what we see and how it's targeted. God knows I probably apply my own bubble although i try to engage with people of different views.

saffronwblue · 25/01/2017 21:33

Thank you for this thread. In the past week I have moved from derision to disbelief to fear about the Trump era.

PausingFlatly · 25/01/2017 21:33

We have to be a bit careful what we criticise though: military fly-pasts and marching soldiers for state occasions? Um, erm, yep, British speciality.

Not many missile launchers in British parades.

It's one of things that can be made to sound the same, ie "marching soldiers". But the Red Square & North Korean jobs are demonstrations of current fire power; the British "marching soldiers" are blokes with swords on horses in impractical hats.

So not the same identification of civilian celebration (inauguration, national day) with "things we plan to kill people with."

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 21:34

I don't understand in what way america is going to be great again under Trump. Arresting reporters, increasing severe weather due to climate change, destroying national parks, having wars or isolating themselves from other countries, reducing the rights of women, people dieing of preventable illness because they can't get medical care, stopping freedom of speech by closing down descenting voices. I clearly have a very different idea of what makes a country great to trump supporters as there is nothing he offers that I would call great.

originalmavis · 25/01/2017 21:38

BBC news: ^He (the orange ork) also signed an action to strip funds from US cities that are sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants.

Mr Trump said in a TV interview with ABC News that Mexico would "absolutely, 100%" reimburse the US for his wall.^

Capture Kirk has gone mad and taken.over the deck of the Enterprise.
