Why does he need Pence behind him at every speech?

What does it mean?

Lweji · 25/01/2017 20:07

Is that almost slow clapping that I hear?

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:08

He is doing a press conference with familes of children who have been killed by illegal immigrants.

That's dangerous - he is linking illegal immigrants to murder.

Will he do the same when a massacre takes place with US guns by US citizens?

Lweji · 25/01/2017 20:10

Of course.

Lweji · 25/01/2017 20:13

Enthusiastic crowd.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:16

Can you imagine Theresa May asking some families to stand up who were killed by illegal immigrants and using that image to crack down on immigratiion?

Plenty of reasons to address immigration and illegal immigration. Not sure if that's the way to do it - to use the famiies and to play on people's fear.

Didn't Hitler play on people's fears to impose laws? I bet he'd have used families?

(Trump is not Hitler. But it's playing on fear and will fuel prejudice)

BestIsWest · 25/01/2017 20:21

Alt National parks has been joined by rogue NASA and Environment agency accounts. They are trying to set up a Scientists march on Washington for March.

How will he make Mexico pay? By refusing to trade?

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 20:25

Here is a quote from a guardian article on the wall building...

'US taxpayers would have to initially fund the wall, he told ABC News, but Mexico would ultimately foot the multi-million dollar bill, adding that negotiations for the reimbursement would start “relatively soon”.'

Seriously?! Surely nobody believes that? Mexico will never pay for this wall. It will probably be built by Mexicans and US taxpayers will pay millions to them. Once it is built all the immigrants will just go under it anyway. What a joke Hmm

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 20:26

Here's the link to that article

TheFilthiestPersonAlive · 25/01/2017 20:26

I also saw (forgive me if it's been mentioned) that there's an initiative to push scientists to run for office. More than 400 scientists have signed up so far.

Fighting alt-facts or whatever it's called with science and rationality. Sounds so logical but these aren't logical times!

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:28

Press briefing Q:

Will the President be reading out the names of children killed by legally owned guns when it happens?

17,000 children (0 - 19) ( so that includes all teenagers) are killed per year

www.bradycampaign.org/key-gun-violence-statistics

TheFilthiestPersonAlive · 25/01/2017 20:30

"17,000 children (0 - 19) ( so that includes all teenagers) are killed per year"

Shock

I would hazard a guess that that figure is at least 500 times higher than the number of children killed by illegal immigrants each year.

SanFranBear · 25/01/2017 20:30

I think that Trump will recoup the money for the wall through punishing sanctions or removing subsidies to the Mexican people. I'm sure I saw a while ago how it wouldn't necessarily be money paid but that the US certainly wouldn't lose out. I don't know much about the US/Mexico relationship but I believe that there has been a lot of mutual support across the years, financial and otherwise.

What I also don't understand is why just Mexico... shouldn't something similar be done at the Canadian border? Or is it because there are no Canadian rapists and murderers Angry

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 20:31

The trump team are starting to backtrack a bit on the removal of websites. I suspect they will try to just sneak data off the sites hoping that nobody will notice. It shows that the pressure from the rogue accounts is working though!

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 20:33

But Canadians are white sanfran. So they are obviously completely different Hmm

StumblyMonkey · 25/01/2017 20:34

Can someone explain the Executive Orders to me?

Presumably there are some kind of legal limits to what he can and can't do by Exec Order? What are they?

Roussette · 25/01/2017 20:35

Isn't it amazing that The Orange One moaned on and on about Executive Orders when Obama used them... calling it "power grabs". Yet he hasn't stopped signing them now he is in power. He has signed 10 already as of yesterday. Probably more as of today.

I couldn't even imagine Farage using murder as an excuse to keep out immigrants and getting the families to stand up.

I wonder if any familes were asked but refused to take part?

But he will do FUCK ALL about gun violence. Or domestic violence. Or rape. Because that's committed by American men.

He is using fear. But doesn't give a shit about violence.

Destinysdaughter · 25/01/2017 20:38

How come he can push through all these extreme measures when Obama couldn't??

I don't understand.

He's like a bloody dictator

misshelena · 25/01/2017 20:40

"Alternative facts" ... the TV start is challenging FACTS. I think we need a new dictionary, a Trump dictionary.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:41

It's quite shocking that they aren't debated, amended, go through scrutiny.

If we ever have a President, I would like one who is ceremonial. I like Parliament. It's not perfect. But he is acting like a Royal of the past. Or Putin.

misshelena · 25/01/2017 20:42

Destiny -- both the House and the Senate are fucking Republican. But we, Americans, deserve whatever is coming our way. We voted for all of them. I am truly finding it hard to feel sorry for the Trump voters who will be losing their Obamacare low cost insurance.

StumblyMonkey · 25/01/2017 20:45

I find the Exec Orders quite an alien concept and a dangerous one.

Hitler used a similar mechanism (I believe) to effectively become a dictator.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 20:49

Cognitive dissonance - the idea to hold 2 conflicting ideas in your head.

Those illegal immigrants - they are rapists and murderers. We should ban them and deport them and that will keep Americans safe

Guns - we need them. So what if many children die, they are part of our constitution.

Domestic violence - sorry, not a problem. We'll reduce funding for that area and not take it seriously.

But hey, we do care about keeping Americans safe. But only from illegal immigrants. And Muslims. Well, foreign Muslims. We don't care about keeping Americans safe from Americans.

SanFranBear · 25/01/2017 20:49

Executive orders stand - however, the difference between these and congressional law is that other presidents can overturn them. With those that have been signed off in Congress, they remain regardless of who is in power (and changes cannot be overturned by Exec order - only by going back through congress).

As both the House of Representatives and the Senate is Republican, it is most definitely scary times ahead Sad
