Just watching the video of his speech at the Dept Homeland Security. He kept them waiting for over an hr.

He comes in at 1:12

originalmavis · 25/01/2017 21:40

Oh just looked at the cities facing cuts... can you guess how they voted in the election? Can you? Guess? Oh go on, try...

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 21:40

To add to pausing comment on the military parades, it is a fine line and to a certain extent a matter of context and purspective. I don't think it would make me squirm as much if it wasn't a president with Trump's ideals and hyperbole doing it.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:43

The orders will "save 1000s of lives, millions of jobs and billions and billions of dollars'

Roussette · 25/01/2017 21:48

Oh yes mavis he likes to punish.

Waterboarding's back. Probably.

shakeyospeare · 25/01/2017 21:58

Absolutely terrifying. It's all still very surreal - we're watching whilst he dismantles life as we know it, bit by bit, drip by drip.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 21:59

All those current migrants / illegal immigrants who are in the USA. What will happen to them?

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 22:01

Can you imagine the PM saying she's going to spend loads on a project without any idea how it will be paid?

Queenie04 · 25/01/2017 22:05

Is anyone going to mention that he has signed the go ahead for the Dakota pipeline, therefore risking polluting the water source for indigenous Americans. Or the fact that they are also using military tactics against the protesters?

Has anyone mentioned that they had been no clean water in Flint Michigan for 2 years now, and so the people continue to be poisoned by lead in the water and face to use bottled water. Or do posters in mumsnet only lament about issues that impact people that look like them.

While your moaning about global warming there are real people being affected in America by policies implemented by Obama and the umpa lumpa trump

NovemberInDailyFailLand · 25/01/2017 22:07

I believe Trump has hinted that payments sent by Mexicans in the USA back to Mexico could be intercepted and confiscated, but I'm not sure how it would be done.

Buddahbelly · 25/01/2017 22:07

Im actually scared watching it all happen (although the funny vids & links on here have been so great its been worth it) - Love the phrase bumhole sign too, totally stealing that.

Speaking of which what is it with his hands and all the signs, has he had a choreographer in.

  • turn 45°to left *raise right hand in high five style *declare a great thing, that's going to be big. *point 1 finger up, and repeat the great thing again *raise high five hand again *raise bumhole sign whilst still repeating the great thing.
  • turn 45° to right
  • Repeat -

That was on the old thread. This is the 3rd thread. If you know about that in detail, please share.

There's loads going on. It's moving so quick.

I have no doubt real people are being affected right now.

Buddahbelly · 25/01/2017 22:08

queenie have you read the full thread?

They have been mentioned already.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 25/01/2017 22:09

Or do posters in mumsnet only lament about issues that impact people that look like them

Hmm Perhaps read the thread, or the previous one, before wading in & throwing punches. The pollution in Flint and the impact of the pipelines have already been raised.

Carl Sagan 1996
"“Science is more than a body of knowledge. It’s a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we’re up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along.”

GrouchyKiwi · 25/01/2017 22:14

Queenie Both of those have been discussed on these threads.

SanFranBear · 25/01/2017 22:16

Queenie - you have no idea what I look like or where I'm from.

If anything, the posters on this thread are shouting out for those minority groups that appear to be sidelined and vilified by the current American administration. And women of course - not a minority but my goodness, do we appear to be hated right now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2017 22:16

and Queenie, you have no idea what each of us looks like or where we are from. There have been americans on these threads.

originalmavis · 25/01/2017 22:21

Yes Queenie - I'm worried about the open season now for my Muslim relatives from 'baaaaad Muslim' countries who live in the US. Being punished for the actions of a bunch of Saudis? And all those refugees being denied a safe haven?

It's not a 'who's being shat upon worst' top trumps (no pun intended).

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 22:22

There has been SO much happening in 4 days. TBF - if you voted for Trump, he is getting a lot done. You can see why they'd be happy.

But I have no doubt that a lot of awful stuff is happening. All I know about the pipeline is that it goes through the homelands of Native Americans.

It would be great to have some true facts and effects on people so awareness can be raised when discussing them. Asking someone who knows little about the policies but talks about them (yes, Hopkins) how they feel about the effect - and detailed effect - of the policies is important. The more accurate information people have, the more people can challenge others - although the answer you get is normally MAGA.

So please tell us what you know about the Dakota pipeline.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 22:23

We need to stand together. If you have been affected by Trump's policies, then share your experiences.

(God, I sound like a BBC helpline)

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 22:26

Wow.

Dakota. I had no idea. And this was under Obama.

HelenaGWells · 25/01/2017 22:26

I have to correct this one.

Nope, neither do the rates of illegal abortions (many of course resulting in death) that will undoubtedly happen now he's banned foreign aid being spent on anything to do with abortion.

This particular piece of asshattery is actually party specific rather than Trump specific. Every single Republican president signs the same paper to do this and then every single Democratic one signs the paper to reinstate it.

However this gem Building The Wall is all Trump.

HelenaGWells · 25/01/2017 22:37

I am truly finding it hard to feel sorry for the Trump voters who will be losing their Obamacare low cost insurance.

Sadly a lot of them probably have NO idea that they voted for this. See this Jimmy Kimmel video where lots of people say they detest Obamacare but think we need the Affordable Care Act. FYI for non-US people Obamacare is the nickname for the ACA because Obama introduced it. The republicans have done a number by using the nickname to get Republicans to hate it because if Obama did it then it must be terrible right?
