Some people on twitter seem to think journalists shouldn't ask hard questions.

Remember the deference of the BBC in the 30s?

I wonder if Neville Chamberlein was asked any hard questions before going to Munich?

No doubt the Daily Mail would have villified a journalist who dared ask Hitler hard questions.

merrymouse · 28/01/2017 11:16

I'm a bit confused about Patriotic Devotion Day - don't Americans already have July 4th?

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:19

I'm a bit confused about Patriotic Devotion Day

I bet that if you don't stand when the President comes in, you'll be labelled unpatriotic. by the Daily Mail

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2017 11:19

I'm not sure when the title 'leader of the free world' was first given to the US president but can we please take it away?

merrymouse · 28/01/2017 11:19

and then there's the whole problem of Trump's concept of America (pro torture, anti immigrants) being diametrically opposed to what many people would assume are American values.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:20

The Oscar speeches are going to be interesting this year.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:20

Maybe the Queen can do that Grin

InformalRoman · 28/01/2017 11:20

The concept that Trump is continually ranking himself is borne out by that "I can be the most presidential person ever" statement on the ABC interview.

And by how he continually overstates his personal and business wealth.

Lweji · 28/01/2017 11:21

Confirmed: Iran's Asghar Farhadi won't be let into the US to attend Oscar's. He's nominated for best foreign language film...

Something tells me he's going to win it.
And Thrump (see, that's where the h missing from Theresa goes) better not watch the Oscars.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the statues ended up with a wig.

merrymouse · 28/01/2017 11:22

But apparently he also seems to be a bit hazy on protocol. According to reports he thought he was getting a standing ovation from the CIA, but they were just still standing because he hadn't given permission to sit.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:22

Does the US President attend the superbowl?

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 11:22

And that would be exactly why it's not going over well. It's going to be like "Trump Day"... oh goody. A day for farting.

This series of tweets explains how Iraqis who have helped and worked alongside American soldiers and who have been granted visas are now terrified that they won't be honoured. They will have to stay in Iraq where they are seen as traitors.

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 11:27

And the first lawsuit has been filed.

originalmavis · 28/01/2017 11:29

I'm rather looking forward to a visit firm the orange one. One think you can say about the brits, we do like 'creative protests'. Especially if he visits Scotland. I feel sorry for the Queen though, although I suspect Phil will tell him to bugger off.

Lweji · 28/01/2017 11:29

They will have to stay in Iraq where they are seen as traitors.

But, they could be undercover terrorists. Hmm

Every time I see something new from this administration all I can think is arsehole.

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 11:31

I alternate between hope that Phillip will tell him off and worry that they may bond over their odd ideas.

M0stlyHet · 28/01/2017 11:43

Hooray for Laura Kuenssberg, is all I can say.

The whole hand holding thing - bleurgh. I think I'm going to have to avoid going into newsagents today - every time I see it I feel sick.

I love the idea of turning London into a sea of Mexican flags for the orange one's visit.

originalmavis · 28/01/2017 11:43

Confirmed: Iran's Asghar Farhadi won't be let into the US to attend Oscar's. He's nominated for best foreign language film...

Why's that then? He isn't a refugee and daesh are very anti shia and view Iranians as infadels anyway (who get the worst treatment in terms of attack and murder). Like I've said, he'd maybe be better to consider Pakistan and Saudi first.

Does he not realise that for every refugee he refuses, he will be pushing another US citizen further along the line that the US hates 'they' and is killing Muslims.

America born lads and lasses who are/become Muslim will begin to feel under attack by a country that says they don't want them. Ripe pickings for radicalization. And with all those bloody guns and crap control...

He really isn't thinking is he? Sorry to sound ageist but he really is just too old to be doing this job - he is not one if those lawyers, professors, financiers... that you see chugging along in their 90s, still as vital and sharp as ever. He never was a strategist, or a great thinker. I doubt for all his family money, he's ever been 'educated'.

He's more like your grandpa, getting more right wing and vocal as he gets older, going on about 'not like that in my day's, 'need a good war to sort them out', 'those bloody [insert race/nationality/sexuality] - it's a disgrace!'. And everyone says 'oh that's just old John, isn't he terrible! Take no notice if him...'

originalmavis · 28/01/2017 11:47

I wouldn't let old John have the TV controls let alone run a country.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:53

Trump is a massive recruiting sergeant. Along with a lot of the UK press, attitudes, suspicion....

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2017 11:56

Did anyone else feel there were a couple of threats from Trump in his response to Kuenssberg's question?

'There goes that relationship' a joke or a suggestion that the media needs muzzling?

And the bit where he's talking about Putin but turns to May and says about how he doesn't know who he is going to like - favour isn't guaranteed and we'd better try to please him?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2017 11:57

I agree Noble, May was not the only one delivering thinly veiled messages.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 11:59

'There goes that relationship' a joke or a suggestion that the media needs muzzling

It was banter - a joke etc etc - that's the response by some on Twitter who seem more concerned that a journalist asked the US President a difficult question rather than talking about the response of the US President.

I hope he gets asked more difficult questions.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 12:00

And the bit where he's talking about Putin but turns to May and says about how he doesn't know who he is going to like

And when he told May not to get involved in US - Mexico affairs.
