In the USA, do they have 'a leader of the Opposition'? I presume it's someone who is a Democrat leader?

Yes, the Senate Minority Leader and House Minority Leader, chosen by the party in the minority, in this case the Democratic Party. Both are assisted by their respective Minority Whips.

SanFranBear · 25/01/2017 00:41

House Speaker Paul Ryan also said there was no evidence to support his claims (about voter fraud)

It's got to be bad when ever Paul Ryan is disputing it!

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 05:58

If you believe in #climate, please follow Badlands NP. I bet they have a lot more followers.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 06:08

Bless. He should let it go. Seriously.

He's such an idiot. Someone needs to have a word about the news cycle. The inauguration is so last week. OLD NEWS!!!

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 07:01

You can take away our tweets.
You can gag the EPA
But you'll never take our freedom

The NPS has gone rogue.

He's on about building his wall now. It's kind of fascinating and hilarious but horrifying at the same time.

MrsHiddleston · 25/01/2017 07:10

I've just been watching YouTube and the Betsy DeVos conformation interview thingymajig. Did anyone else see the hilarious part where she said some schools in America should have guns, to -get this- protect from grizzly bear attacks. Hilarious!

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 07:12

Apparently, 1984 is having a sales boost.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 25/01/2017 07:15

They're organising a scientists' march on Washington. This was my favourite tweet:

What do we want?
Peer-reviewed Science
When do we want it?
Yesterday, please!

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 25/01/2017 07:16

^ My post was about the AltNPS twitter feed.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 07:17

I can see him dismissing that. A scientists' march is an awesome idea. I think the fact that Washington is not a place where he polled highly is going to mean that lots of demonstrations take place.

BigBadgers · 25/01/2017 07:18

The NPS are my new heroes. Park Keepers unite! Grin

On the subject of spin I often believe that the simplest explanation is generally true. In this case I am increasingly inclined to believe that Trump is genuinely mad as a hatter. He got in due to having lots of money and a lot of bullshit. A handful of unpleasant people latched onto him hoping for power and thinking they could control him or deluding themselves that he was like them really (think how Gove and Johnson got chummy with Farage during brexit). They are now realising that this isn't going to be how they imagined. There is now a wild mix of fire-fighting, backstabbing, and trying to get their agendas through while they still can.

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 07:19

DNC reaction to the deletion of tweets.

"Vladimir Putin would be proud"

originalmavis · 25/01/2017 07:21

So the son of an immigrant is trying to stop... immigration (from some countries).

So of the daesh inspired shooters on the US - how many were born in the US, and how many from countries not on the list anyway (ie Boston)? How many people are murdered by loons like the (white supremacist) McVeys of the world or that man who shot up a (black) prayer meeting in a racist attack - let alone the school shootings, gang shootings and good old everyday neighbour shoots someone in a dispute over a cat.

But he loves guns. He loves people with guns.

The man us actually getting worse. Either he has gone all gollum and power crazed, or - I really do think this, some kind of brain tumor pressing on part of the brain.

I am going from gob hanging open to being very concerned. I have family in the US (born there) from countries on his 'nono' list. Some were brought up abroad and went back to the US, some have studied there and married... what new hell will they have to put up with when, say, their mum visits, or just day to day racism (because that will definitely rise)?

Fucking -bloody-hell America. What have you done???

amispartacus · 25/01/2017 07:26

His reaction to the next mass shooting in the USA (and this is the USA so it will happen Sad ) will say so much.

Will he react before all the facts are known? Jump to conclusions? I bet he will launch airstrikes if it is found to have any link / lone wolf link to ISIS. Maybe that's a good thing. It could send a strong message. Or it could escalate even more into tit for tat.

Lweji · 25/01/2017 07:33

I fear four years of demonstrations and strikes.
High instability in international relations. The role of the US in the international community could change with very lasting repercussions.
Well done Trumpettes. Well done USA.
My only hope is that the reaction to this frankly disgusting President will mean the US will truly move forward in many aspects regarding immigration, guns, racism and women.

Roussette · 25/01/2017 07:40

Is he honestly being serious? He's still banging on about the crowds at his inauguration? He must be covering up all that he is signing.

Meanwhile on Mexico... Trump has just tweeted...
"Big Day on Security. Among many other things, we will build the Wall!!" He might have more of a battle than he realises.

There are talks next week between Trump and Mexico's Foreign Minister to renegotiate the trade deal between them. However, he has said that if Trump brings up the wall, he will leave the table.

Another tweet from the orange one...
"If Chicago doesn't fix the horrible "carnage" going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!"
The twitter reaction to that is not good, he's being called a fascist. Threatening an entire city with martial law.

Lweji · 25/01/2017 07:43

At this point it would be fun if people just tweeted to him with SAD.

I have no words but, he's such an asshole!
He doesn't propose solutions. Just punishments and withdrawals and denial.

Roussette · 25/01/2017 07:47

Those tweets to me smack of someone who is power crazy and lapping all this up. The picture of him signing papers surrounded by men fawning over him has the Trump looking and acting like a Bond villain.

I think the back stabbing and in fighting within the WH will be monumental. I've worked in departments with a horrible divisive Manager. You end up turning on each other, making alliances you don't want to, not believing anyone because you are forced to protect yourself.

I just wonder if he has a 'Leo' who tells him things he doesn't want to hear.

Very interesting piece, including Trump former campaign manager who's set up a "consultancy firm", aka lobbying firm, but denies coming into this business to make money. Suggesting so it's insulting to his family!
