Trump is the quintessential candidate for hubris syndrome

Proposed criteria for hubris syndrome, and their correspondence to features of cluster B personality disorders in DSM-IV

  1. A narcissistic propensity to see their world primarily as an arena in which to exercise power and seek glory; NPD.6
  2. A predisposition to take actions which seem likely to cast the individual in a good light—i.e. in order to enhance image; NPD.1
  3. A disproportionate concern with image and presentation; NPD.3
  4. A messianic manner of talking about current activities and a tendency to exaltation; NPD.2
  5. An identification with the nation, or organization to the extent that the individual regards his/her outlook and interests as identical; (unique)
  6. A tendency to speak in the third person or use the royal ‘we’; (unique)
  7. Excessive confidence in the individual's own judgement and contempt for the advice or criticism of others; NPD.9
  8. Exaggerated self-belief, bordering on a sense of omnipotence, in what they personally can achieve; NPD.1 and 2 combined
  9. A belief that rather than being accountable to the mundane court of colleagues or public opinion, the court to which they answer is: History or God; NPD.3
10. An unshakable belief that in that court they will be vindicated; (unique) 11. Loss of contact with reality; often associated with progressive isolation; APD 3 and 5 12. Restlessness, recklessness and impulsiveness; (unique) 13. A tendency to allow their ‘broad vision’, about the moral rectitude of a proposed course, to obviate the need to consider practicality, cost or outcomes; (unique) 14. Hubristic incompetence, where things go wrong because too much self-confidence has led the leader not to worry about the nuts and bolts of policy; HPD.5

I disagree with you on that nolonger. Wikileaks is not a supporter of either side. It just puts out information that they are given. Just because it put out information that helped trump previously does not mean it supports trump and won't also put out information that goes against him. It is completely neutral in that respect. He is a fool to think wikileaks is his friend. Left wing types (like myself) would also be foolish to think it shares any sort of liberal, leftist agenda.

Spudlet · 23/01/2017 12:36

Just read that David Owens piece. Very interesting! Also scary.

You'd want some heavy duty rubber gloves to go anywhere near the Trump toes... Envy

MrWriter · 23/01/2017 13:17

Hello everyone, so glad I found this thread, the bestest thread, though I'm sure you would have came and found me, the bestest, most qualified, so qualified poster anyway.

Seriously though, is 38 million viewers I good thing in a country with a population of 300 million? What's the percentage turn out for voting in the tiny handed crazed Satsuma?

I want OFFICIAL percentages before that lying media distort with alternative facts.

squishysquirmy · 23/01/2017 13:37

Those articles were very interesting. One of the most worrying things about Trump (and I know, there's a long list) is that he doesn't seem to like people who disagree with him. It wouldn't be so bad if he was ignorant, but surrounded himself with well informed people who had the backbone to stand up to him. But he doesn't, he likes yes men.
Who's going to hold his toes?
Mattis is the only one I can think of who is likely to both disagree with Trump, and be listened to. Trump at least seems to respect his opinions, probably because he sees him as macho.

Lweji · 23/01/2017 13:38

We need a spy to get those tax returns. It won't be Russia. And I don't think anyone in the US wants their neck on the line.

I suppose it has to be James Bond.

Lweji · 23/01/2017 13:43

Meanwhile, for your entertainment:
Who said it? Trump or Bond villain?

paxillin · 23/01/2017 13:44

Maybe AcrossthePond55 could come out of retirement to do the tax spying. She is a bureaucrat after all.

squishysquirmy · 23/01/2017 13:56

That quiz.... The articulate quotes with 3 syllable words in are all Bond Villians, that's the only distinction between super villians and Trump..

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 13:58

squishy there is a theory that Trump has been appointing people who look the part - Mattis because he looks like a proper general (and resembles Patton), Tillerson because he's tall and looks like a diplomat, Pence because he looks good (?!). Like a giant casting call for a TV reality show.

The Washington Post reported on it so it's probably DISHONEST MEDIA!!! and FAKE NEWS!!! and ALTERNATIVE FACTS!!!

LukesDiner · 23/01/2017 14:02

Buy my Make America Great Again caps. The best! Hillary sewed in all the 'Made in China' labels just to make me mad. Sad!

Lweji · 23/01/2017 14:03

What's his excuse for the appalling Education nominee?

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 14:05

And ALTERNATIVE TRUTH ALERT:

NY Times reporting here that crowd counting experts have assessed that 3 times as many people marched in Washington on Saturday as turned out for Trump's inauguration on Friday (470,000 marchers v 160,000 Trumpers).

Lweji · 23/01/2017 14:08

I bet the Trump supporters were all really close to each other, so they look like less.
Whereas the angry fems in the march were all keeping their distance from each other, so they look like more.

Never mind all the other indicators that the crowd size was different.

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 14:11

What's his excuse for the appalling Education nominee?

Well Mr Trump, what first attracted your attention to the billionaire and political donor, Betsy de Vos?

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 14:15

Ah, that Betsy - one smart lady, right?

BigBadgers · 23/01/2017 14:15

What's his excuse for the appalling Education nominee?

Every reality show needs a couple of token women.

SanFranBear · 23/01/2017 14:19

I love that excuse, Lweji - I bet that's it!

Spudlet · 23/01/2017 14:25

Lweji I got 9/12. Or, alternatively, 100%! Fact.

SenecaFalls · 23/01/2017 14:39

In a later tweet, Ms. Betsy blamed her staff for the mistake in her tweet. What a class act, no?

Lweji · 23/01/2017 14:45

Did she blame any grizzlies?

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 14:48

Nope. No grizzlies. They were all doing something much more important in the woods at the time I believe.

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 14:51

If this was a wedding photo you'd be wondering if they'd ever get through the honeymoon before one of them filed for divorce.

Lweji · 23/01/2017 14:51

Prepping in the woods, I expect.

At this time even the bears will be worried.

Lweji · 23/01/2017 14:56

I'm king of the (alternative fact) world.
