Trump's reaction to thousands of people marching is worrying.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 22/01/2017 13:49

It does look as if they are trying to confort help and steer Melania

amispartacus · 22/01/2017 13:54

I wonder if he realises that people can find things out for themselves.

31 million people watched the inaugaration.
Which is more than 2013.
And a LOT LESS than 2009.

AndHoldTheBun · 22/01/2017 13:58

"Freedom of the press" won't stop Trump putting pressure on broadcasters/papers who are less than flattering towards him.

originalmavis · 22/01/2017 14:16

Yes but they will consistently undermine, call him out and take the piss. This will lure the Yeehaws and the tide will turn.

amispartacus · 22/01/2017 14:21

Yes but they will consistently undermine, call him out and take the piss

I think taking the piss is the biggest opportunity here. He is sensitive to criticism. The comedians and satirists have such an opportunity here.

Lweji · 22/01/2017 14:24

It looks like they've got someone else writing the POTUS one

I thought so, but then I read it.
Either it's him or he's got someone impersonating his style.

Lweji · 22/01/2017 14:27

I'd follow his account for a laugh but just can't bring myself as he would think I was a fan.

Same here.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 14:27

OMG he told the CIA:
"Trust me, I'm like a smart person"

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 14:29

Holy shit could he be more of a parody.

“There is nobody who cares more about the CIA, nobody,” Trump declared to cheers from about 400 employees. “... I want you to know I am so behind you. You’re going to get so much backing that maybe you’re going to say, ‘Mr. President, we don’t need that much backing.’

“But you’re going to have that.”

originalmavis · 22/01/2017 14:30

DS does a good piss take. We gave whole journeys to school in Trump mode.

Thus is the best train in the world folks. It is the most beautiful. We will make southern transport great again! Always on time, always. Strikes - it's all lies people . 1000% of them run not just on time but early...

Lweji · 22/01/2017 14:34

Oh to be in the CIA coffee room tomorrow.
All hush hush with running water and coded messages of course. Wink

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 14:38

"His remarks garnered dismay from former CIA director John Brennan after Trump used the agency’s tribute to fallen agents as a backdrop for his speech."

Dismay is probably the understatement of the century.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 14:38

Haha original that's funny.

Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don't always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views.

SingaSong12 · 22/01/2017 14:39

I wonder if Trump will just abandon the White House press/media. If he sticks to twitter then the public get to directly hear the message and how many are going to seek out reputable sources to confirm or provide alternative opinions? Not shackling free press as such but by the time they analyse Trump will have tweeted something to distract from bad news.

Lweji · 22/01/2017 14:40

Someone told him his comments were backfiring?
Or they took his phone from him again.

amispartacus · 22/01/2017 14:40

He should really really really think before he Tweets. It's how wars could start

All things reality with Trump, maybe not so beautiful now!
InformalRoman · 22/01/2017 14:41

Trump declared to cheers from about 400 employees.

Or from the Trump entourage (off-camera of course).

And here's a somewhat different take on the speech to the official line:

A former senior CIA officer told NBC News he was embarrassed, watching the remarks, which he called a "free-wheeling, narcissistic diatribe."

Cherrysoup · 22/01/2017 14:42

He claims (or his people, the best people) that a million attended the inauguration, despite photographic evidence to the contrary. He is a liar and an idiot.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 22/01/2017 14:43

Can't see the point of the marches

I don't know about the rest of the world but in the US it may very well have been the first protest march a lot of these women have ever been on. By registering they are now in touch with grassroots organizations that can help co-ordinate and organize their voices in letter writing and emailing campaigns, in helping publicize the abysmal performance of DeVos and what she did to education in Detroit, to campaign to get the gerrymandered district boundaries changed in time for the mid-term elections etc.

You make a good point that advances in women's rights typically mean the advancement of white women's rights while minorities and those in patriarchal societies are left behind, but disenfranchising white women and sending them back to the 1950's isn't going to help.

Lweji · 22/01/2017 14:43

Not sure they were cheering. They could be laughing at him and applauding to keep him going. You know, keeping him in a good mood. They are Intelligence people.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 14:44

TheMysteriousJackelope

Well said.

InformalRoman · 22/01/2017 14:44

Or they took his phone from him again.
