I think it would be hard for Trump to completely shackle the press as freedom of the press is enshrined in the Constitution. But he will try to shut down the information given them with spurious 'national security' claims and start his own stream of 'disinformation' to discredit them using Breitbart, Fox News, et al. Luckily the Press is pretty good at ferreting out the truth AND filing legal challenges to suppression of information citing the Freedom of Information Act.
Trump's been able to get away with his bold-faced lies up until now because, for the most part, the Press didn't give a shit about his various business deals. His bullshit claims about his various 'deals' only rated the back page of the business section. The press had a 'yeah, yeah, whatever' attitude towards him because his hotels, steaks, and wine didn't really matter in the big picture. But it's different now, it's no longer his 'private business', it's 'public policy' he's dealing with. The media is watching him now, just as they have watched every President since Washington. And after yesterday, they will be watching (and fact checking) him through the eye of, not a plain microscope, but an election mass spectrometer!
So much of it depends on us, the American People. If the majority of us demand transparency from Trump and demand truthful reporting from the Press, Trump will be stymied in many of his machinations. A lot of what yesterday's messages were about at the Rally I attended were 'stay informed', 'stay organized', 'stay involved', 'stay vocal' and to remember that he was not elected by the majority of the people, he lost the popular vote. And that we, that majority, must not become the 'Silent Majority'.
