Too old for purple hair?

MOIST · 18/01/2017 20:54

Please be brutally honest.

Is it really wrong to be 43 and a bit fat and planning purple hair?

I'm not thin, glamorous, pretty or confident but quite fancy a bit of purple in my life. But H and D (neither of them very D) tell me it would be ridiculous. This actually makes me more likely to do it but will the world laugh at me?

Go for it!
I'd love to do it (I'm older than you) but it would be severely frowned on at workSad

DJBaggySmalls · 18/01/2017 20:58

You're never too old for purple hair. Alternative is a state of mind, not an age or dress size.

jcne · 18/01/2017 20:59

in this long hard life seize these small pleasures where you find them! ☂️

misshelena · 18/01/2017 20:59

Few months ago I saw an old lady (probably 70's) with pink hair. I loved it! I think it's great when people feel so young at heart. Go for it!

Tootsiepops · 18/01/2017 21:00

Crack on with the purple hair. Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks?

travailtotravel · 18/01/2017 21:01

Just do it. Worst that happens you hate it and dye it another colour. We need a picture!

notMarlene · 18/01/2017 21:01

yy. dye it.

Imissmy0ldusername · 18/01/2017 21:01

I'm 39, fat & have purple hair. I work in a big office, but I'm not customer facing or anything, so I get away with it - go for it Grin

EatSleepWorkRepeat · 18/01/2017 21:01

Go for it, if it is a disaster it's easily fixed. I did similar last year and it gave me a whole new lease of life!

CrazyGreyhoundLady · 18/01/2017 21:02

Where I work there's a lovely lady who comes in with hair that changes every few months, my favourite was when she had it purple, and she's in her late 60s. It's your hair, do what you fancy!

MOIST · 18/01/2017 21:02

Tomorrow I am going purple. And bollox to them all.

I have purple hair and I'll be turning 43 very soon. Go for it, I only wish I'd done it sooner!

And stuff the world, what do they know? If it helps, I've had nothing but compliments on mine Smile

TheOtherGalen · 18/01/2017 21:03

I'm 43 next week and I have purple hair! You're never too old. Never.

dementedma · 18/01/2017 21:03

I'm 53 and have purple hair, a deep plum/purple but very purple in sunlight. Have lost track of how many people have complimented me on it, including random strangers!

BemoWax · 18/01/2017 21:04

Do it!

Can I recommend using Manic Panic? (
www.manic-panic.co.uk/ )
They have lots of choice for colours and the dye stays bright longer than any other I've tried.

I'm 27 and I don't intend on having a 'natural' hair colour at any time in the future, do what makes you happy!

ZombieJenna · 18/01/2017 21:04

You're never too old for purple hair! I had mine done bright purple a few years ago after seeing an older lady (she must have been in her 60s at least) with the most gorgeous purple dye job.

I thought I was being ridiculous at 37 to have my nose pierced but I did it and no one has laughed at me yet.

If it will make you happy to have purple (pink, blue, or even rainbow colours) then that's all that matters. Flowers and a hug for you OP

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2017 21:06

Ermmmmmmmmm if you have to ask, then , yes!

I want my nose pierced. I'm 50.
I am not too old but I have the wrong shape of nose Sad

MOIST · 18/01/2017 21:09

I have a nose stud and dr martens and a daith but no tattoos yet. I am branching out a bit more as I get older but inside is a quivering wreck who is scared of people laughing at me.

I'm in my sixtieth year , I've had purple hair for about three years now. I love it , it cheers me up every time I have it done. Go for it .

sn0wdr0p4 · 18/01/2017 21:12

I'm also a bit fat ! but I'm working on that.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 18/01/2017 21:12

my mother has purple hair, not a lilac rinse....a KILLER bob and vibrant purple streaks through it.

Trainspotting1984 · 18/01/2017 21:13

Don't do it. Most people do it themselves and it looks crap. I wouldn't laugh though

LBOCS2 · 18/01/2017 21:16

My stepmum has pink hair. She had it dip dyed for a while and now she's gone for it and had it done 'properly'. She's 63 and it looks great.

My hair has slices of pink and purple through it. I love it :)

notaflyingmonkey · 18/01/2017 21:16

'Normal' is overrated. If you want to do it, do it!

SomewhereNow · 18/01/2017 21:16

Do it! I'm not thin and the wrong side of 40, last year I had my nose pierced and this year I've had my hair dyed strawberry jam red. I love both and feel like 'me' after years of blandness :).
