Too old for purple hair?

Please be brutally honest.

Is it really wrong to be 43 and a bit fat and planning purple hair?

I'm not thin, glamorous, pretty or confident but quite fancy a bit of purple in my life. But H and D (neither of them very D) tell me it would be ridiculous. This actually makes me more likely to do it but will the world laugh at me?

I'm 68 and yesterday I had pink foils put into my blonde hair. They are a pearly pink and I love it. Next time I'll go a little stronger in shade. Or might have a go using an Otc product to add extra in the meantime.

At the moment, being pale and pearly it looks very stylish and classy without being over the top.

Please do it. I'm not brave enough, but there is someone who attends the same Pilates class as me who is in her late 70s and has mahogany steaks in her hair. She looks fab and excludes confidence.

I'm 46 and I've been putting the odd bit of purple in mine. I love it. I've had compliments. Not from my ds either. Sod them Smile

Live XXL Cyber Purple or Mystic Violet here. I'm in my 50's, more than a tad overweight and have had purple hair for almost 20 years now. I love it and the children I work with love it. When parents who don't know my name want to talk to me, it's always my hair colour that is referred to, to single me out. My HT has never been less than positive about my choice of hair colour - in fact she did once say how sad she was that her skin colour is too pale for her to go purple too!

Go for it!

I am 44 and have purple hair. I love it, my DH2b loves it and I get lots of compliments. It felt drastic to begin with but after a few days was fine.

I'm getting married soon with my purple hair as well Grin

Go on!!! Do it!!!

Here's mine. It's very bright under lights and a nice wine colour in natural light

I'm 36 and I'm not giving up my purple hair anytime soon. I use live dye ultra violet and it's a reddy purple.

I'd love to go mega purple but my hair is naturally dark and doesn't do bleach without turning to straw Sad

I'm loving all the unusual hair colours on this thread! I'm currently blue- green, but next time I'm going for purple.

HelenaGWells I've got jet black hair naturally and it's a lot of upkeep but I got there in the end. Strangely, my hair bleaches better now than it used to, I think it's stopped resisting!

I'm surprised to see the XXL live love on here, I hated the gooey texture! I now use directions and have to say it's great.

BTW OP, go for it. Or have you already dyed it since you said you're now a grape?!

Do it!

I'm 55, my hair is Special Effects High Octane Orange as blues/purples do not suit my skin tone.

I also have a nose stud ( and several ear piercings which I can hide under my hair if I have to!)

Do it op!

I love the look of some of the colours on that manic panic website. Especially the midnight colour. It's quite dark that one. Do any of you hair dying experts think it would work on mousy brown hair or would I need to bleach mine first?

I wouldn't because:

Do it! I'm younger than you and would think anyone around your age with purple hair was really cool.

Seriously though, as a word of caution: I died my hair pink in my 30s. If you are in a role where you need to be taken seriously or are looking at things like promotion it can cause big problems.

I don't get what's wrong with that pic, Bill? I hope I'm rocking lilac hair when I'm elderly!

I'm with the poster above who said "Crack on with the purple hair. Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks?"

Absolutely not too old! I work with a 60-something lady that comes in with a new shade of red or purple ever other Monday!

"inside is a quivering wreck who is scared of people laughing at me."

Just do what you want to do, OP. Life's too short to worry about what other people might think! So what if they laugh? It doesn't matter one iota in the grand scheme of things. Live your life, be purple and be happy with who you are. 😊

I guess so. But Phyllis is rocking that purple perm! The coat ... not so much.

Another vote for Manic Panic dyes, they're amazing!!

I gave myself an all over buzz cut last weekend to get rid of all my henna and I'm now willing it to grow so I can attack it with a combination of Atomic Turquoise and Siren's Song Grin

I'm not a massive fan of this kind of coloured hair personally but if you fancy it, go for it.

But can I make a plea? If you're going to do it, go for it properly and do it well. I see so many women with badly dyed, half washed out, sort-of dyed hair that looks as if the dye didn't take. If you're going to do it, do it properly
