Too old for purple hair?

Please be brutally honest.

Is it really wrong to be 43 and a bit fat and planning purple hair?

I'm not thin, glamorous, pretty or confident but quite fancy a bit of purple in my life. But H and D (neither of them very D) tell me it would be ridiculous. This actually makes me more likely to do it but will the world laugh at me?

bit I think it's supposed to look like that. It's the fashion, it's supposed to be pastel shades.

I'm 38, in a senior position in a very responsible profession.

My hair is purple, I have multiple ear piercings and a nose stud and I regularly wear Doc Martens in the office.

I spent years hiding behind bland suits and mousy hair. I got bullied. When I got "me" back, I dyed my hair & pierced my nose. Nobody has ever said it's unacceptable and I've only ever had compliments about the way I look.

Go for it OP.

I am 46 and currently have bright orange and I mean bright orange hair. I have had purple, Rihanna red black with red streaks to name but a few. I have only ever had compliments about it. I am thinking turquoise or navy blue next. Go for it. I agree with doing it properly though. I have tried doing it myself but it never looks the same and the colours seem to be more vibrant and last longer if I have it done at the hairdressers.

Bill I realise that! I mean with big roots showing. With patchy colour. Faded not pastel.

You hope people saying "I've only ever had compliments" realise that lots of people won't or don't like it but are unlikely to march up and say "I fucking hate your hair". I'm not saying anyone should be in the slightest bit bothered by people hating it. I wouldn't be. But this is a pretty strong look and not everyone will like it. The fact that you've only had compliments doesn't mean it's universally admired. I know my 80yo mom hates it but she's unlikey to tell you that is she does Grin

No not to old and anyway, can you not remember all those old ladies with lavender rinses???!!

When I was a ppunk with coloured hair I regularly got grief from the lavender rinse brigade and young black women - (the ones who now dye their hair blonde!!).

Go for it!!!!

Oh, post fail. It's that poem that starts, "when I am an old woman I shall wear purple" - if she can do it, you def can in your 40's when you're not at all old!!

Anyway it washes out. Do it.

Go for it!

You will look good with whatever hair makes you most confident.

I don't think it's particularly out there to have brightly coloured hair these days. Loads of otherwise very normal looking people do it . Myself included. I tend to have slices of bright colour rather than whole head though. I find when I've had say, bright pink all over that it makes me look washed out. It's not complimentary on me. So slices of colour or a bit of dip dye colour look better. I get bright white blond slices done at the hair dresses then I use BleachLondon products to colour them. The Reds last a lot less time than the blues so if I put purple in it starts of purple then slowly turns blue.

If I had fairer hair is love peach or rose gold coloured had.

You're never too old for anything. I will be 50 next month and I have shaved (number one clippers) hair that is blue at the front and asymmetrically harlequin patterned, in colours resembling a Battenburg cake, at the sides.

I also have a nostril and Medusa piercing and ......I'm a chartered accountant.

Your purple hair sounds amazing. You'll only regret it if you don't :-)
