It's spelt 'marshmAllow' where's does the 'E' sound come from?! It really grates on me.

I also just the use of a soft 'X' in Prezzo. As in saying it prezzzzo, and not with the same hard z as Pizza.

What are yours?

Bunnyfuller · 17/12/2016 20:25

That's soft 'z' not fecking z. I also hate Appple's idea of my stupidity after wine

I substitute vowels into the name of anyone who offends me with MarshmEllow.

thefrizzyhairedcommunity · 17/12/2016 20:29

Mispronunciation of bruschetta irritates me.

MOIST · 17/12/2016 20:31

H does this. I have to beat him soundly with a broom every time and yet he still doesn't learn. Tossed.

JennyOnAPlate · 17/12/2016 20:31

I think marshmellow might be a regional thing. I'm in the West Midlands and that's how everyone says it. It's really very irritating.

thefrizzyhairedcommunity · 17/12/2016 20:34

MOIST LTB. I should LTB as well, mine says Pacific instead of specific and I done instead of I did. Oh and "I seen".Angry

Bunnyfuller · 17/12/2016 20:34

It's not regional. We're East of Englanf/Herts and I have to rein in my face twitching when PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE says it. Gaaaaaahhhh. Then I just sound weird by saying 'oh, yes, my girls love hot chocolate with fucking marshmAllows too, can't you read

OP posts:
camtt · 17/12/2016 20:35

oh, I've got one, 'nucular', instead on 'nuclear'

camtt · 17/12/2016 20:37

or 'see-a-batt-a' for ciabatta

'reNumeration' for 'reMuneration'

(pedantic tonight...)

Blacksox · 17/12/2016 20:38

Yes! Marshmellow really irritates me. I have recently offended most of my admin team by telling them they are quite wrong. They had no idea.

ImprovingMyMH · 17/12/2016 20:39

camtt, it is remuneration though, isn't it?

ImprovingMyMH · 17/12/2016 20:40

My iPhone changed that. I need to Google.

girlandboy · 17/12/2016 20:41

DH says marshmEllow too. And when I correct him by pointing out it's spelled marshmAllow and pronounced as such he replies "yeah, it's the same thing".

It is NOT!
We're both from the East Midlands by the way, so I don't know why we both pronounce it differently I am right though

ImprovingMyMH · 17/12/2016 20:46

Oh, it really is remuneration. I thought it was renumeration. Because it's spelled a bit like number Grin?

steff13 · 17/12/2016 20:47

My daughter says marshmelons.

ImprovingMyMH · 17/12/2016 20:49

I definitely say marshmallow though.

camtt · 17/12/2016 20:50

yes, definitely remuneration (phew!)

3catsandcounting · 17/12/2016 21:05

MarshmEllow drives me nuts!

But... I have a theory. Almost everyone I know who uses the 'a ' sound, is well over 40. I think the 'e' sound comes from the American accent, which has influenced the younger generations in more recent years.

So, Americans would say, 'Sam', but it would sound to us like 'Sem' - with a long e.
Or, 'shallow' would sound like 'shellow', 'fantastic' would sound like 'fantestic'.

My DD19 genuinely thought there was an 'e' in marshmallow, until I showed her the packet!!

I might well be talking rubbish here, and I've probably not used the best examples, but just a thought. Wink

LunaLoveg00d · 17/12/2016 21:08

sparechange · 17/12/2016 21:14

Mispronunciation of bruschetta irritates me

I say 'brew-shetta' and DH says 'brusk-hetta'
Which, if either of us, is correct?

ImprovingMyMH · 17/12/2016 21:19

spare, I used to say bruschetta your way, but then I heard that your DH's way was correct.

Also:
Espresso / expresso
Moët / Mowet
Lidl / Leedl
Primark / Preemark

And now I'm confused about how to say bergamot as well.

Mindtrope · 17/12/2016 21:19

Or liquor-ish. It's not liquor-ish it's liquorice ending isssssss not ishhhhhh.

luna I love you.

mickeyjohn · 17/12/2016 21:20

I think it's the latter Sparechange, but I'm happy to be corrected!

FuzzyWizard · 17/12/2016 21:21

Your DH is correct sparechange!
