To not really understand why some people are so upset by transwomen using public toilets?

I'm sorry if this offends, but I really don't understand why this is such a contentious topic. I know transwomen and they just want to pop into a cubicle, do their business and leave. I understand that there is a fear of being attacked, but I honestly think if someone is of a mind to do that they'll do it whether dressed as a woman or not.

What about the privacy and dignity of women, putting aside the safety issue for a moment? Why do so many people on this thread think transwomen's feelings trump women's?

It's almost like a klaxon went off when this thread was posted. Funny how despite so many posters rationally trying to explain that it's not about bathrooms that the conversation keeps being dragged back to bathroom issues. It's almost as if there is a deliberate agenda to narrow the discussion just to attack posters and MN as transphobic. Not that transactivists would be so determined or so organised. Of course not.

Almond - who the hell is giving up the option of a private locker room!? And by that I mean my idea of heaven!

I hate getting changed infront of other people's regardless of what gender or sex they identify with!

almondpudding · 16/11/2016 23:41

Nobody on here has any issue with intersex people, Churchill.

If a man is using the male facilities, he isn't acting like a criminal with a compulsion.

almondpudding · 16/11/2016 23:42

Your link doesn't work, Churchill.

Portobelly · 16/11/2016 23:43

I'm with you OP
I have no idea why people are bothered by it.
So long as they don't piss on the seat I don't care who was in the cubicle before me.

RoseGoldHippie · 16/11/2016 23:43

Blistiry but the tread is specifically names the use of Pulic Toilets. That's why it keeps going back to that, especially as quite a few people (myself included) did not read all 20 pages before offering their opinion to the OP

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2016 23:43

The problem is, at he moment (this was also mentioned on another thread) a man in a womens toilet or vice versa can be legitimately challenged. The vast majority of people would not have a problem with exceptional cases. The problem is the activists who want to wipe sex from the legislation and replace it with gender. The activists who want to erase womens spaces and women.

venusinscorpio · 16/11/2016 23:45

And so much disingenuous faux innocent "I've never ever come across these views before, how can people think this".

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. Literal violence.

I don't know your Auntie Margaret, Churchill, and don't know if she breaks the law or not!

Nowhere in the North Carolina bill does it suggest that anyone will have to show their genitals to the police.

This thread is about the context of trans people entering women's spaces. Nobody has any issue with intersex people.

Good grief some of the views on here are reminiscent of white people wanting separate bathrooms for people of colour. Shameful.

I'm not a liar. I have read the bill which you linked to. If you have another version of the bill in which such a policy is stated, link to it!

Nobody on this thread has said that men who use the women's toilets are necessarily breaking the law. People have discussed the hypothetical situation in which such behaviour was illegal.

almondpudding · 17/11/2016 00:07

People on here don't want separate toilets for trans people. People are happy for trans people (for example non binary) to have them if they want them.

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:08

Do you not think the trans agenda reinforces gender stereotypes, Caryl?

RoseGoldHippie · 17/11/2016 00:08

Enid I think the reason really boils down to the fact that people just don't know! I certainly dont! I think the toilets thing is a red herring to other issues.

I think in rape and crisis centres, women should have the right to be seen by a sexually female (probably not the correct phrasing) woman. I also feel that in gyno exams etc woman should have the choice (not all will care but some will)

This is a relatively new accepted subject to discuss, as bad as it sounds I think it will be a bit trial and error until the right balance is met

Yes, I agree with all of that Rose.

sortthetacheoutbernard · 17/11/2016 00:11

That's also reminiscent of how the separate bathroom idea was pushed -that it would be better for the black people Hmm

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:11

With those views, many people would put you in the TERF category along with me. That's the point, Rosegold. Many transactivists find the idea of any barriers at all offensive.
