To not really understand why some people are so upset by transwomen using public toilets?

I'm sorry if this offends, but I really don't understand why this is such a contentious topic. I know transwomen and they just want to pop into a cubicle, do their business and leave. I understand that there is a fear of being attacked, but I honestly think if someone is of a mind to do that they'll do it whether dressed as a woman or not.

Do you actually understand the issues women have, sortthe, or did you just read the last page?

almondpudding · 17/11/2016 00:13

The people who are pushing for separate toilets for non binary people are non binary!

Nobody on here has said they care whether such facilities exist or not!

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:14

Exactly Enid. Category error, always. Black people as a class are more comparable to women as a class than biological men.

RoseGoldHippie · 17/11/2016 00:15

Sorry Venus what is TERF? :) (crap at some of these acronyms!)

I don't think there is anyone on here who would say that Auntie Margaret shouldn't use the ladies - presumably she has done all the necessary stuff for the legal paperwork, and from your description isn't deciding on Mondays she feels like a man, on Tuesdays she feels like a woman

TheUnworthy · 17/11/2016 00:17

Really?

Separating bathrooms by biological sex is exactly the same as white people making black people use different bathrooms?

I simply prefer to share some spaces with females - girls and woman I feel safer

Churchill your friend may pass as a women so using women's toilets and changing rooms may not raise concerns

But for those that don't pre or post op if I am in a space I feel safe in and relaxed and I am not expecting to see a male seeing a woman that for some reason I feel isn't a woman will make me feel uncomfortable and vulnerable why should I be put in that position

I like the vast majority on here do not want to tell transwomen they do not pass as women we don't want to be cruel or mock and I accept they are transwomen but that is not the same as myself or other women

Unisex spaces along with separate toilets for male and female will have to be provided

That is the issue for toilets/changing rooms for refuges/victim support groups they absolutely have to be kept separated by sex it's vital all and everyone feels safe and shared experiences often make people feel safer. Women's experiences in life differ greatly to a transwomens

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:24

There are plenty of people on the internet who take the idea of the cotton ceiling very seriously, caryl.

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:27

Yes there are posters who believe that gender reassignment does not make a man into a woman. Why should it? Whether they should be allowed more access to female sex segregated spaces is a tricky issue and people have their own personal lines on this.

How is somebody going to have surgery on their genitals without somebody looking at their genitals?!

Why would it require any more policing than that?

Surely the surgeon would just sign a form leading to amendment of documents.

Ada Wells is another who calls himself a lesbian with a dick.

He's an arsehole.

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:47

Sex segregation is not a "solution", it is the status quo. It should not change. We should be advocating for separate spaces for transpeople.

ageingrunner · 17/11/2016 00:50

Can anyone who is saying that only "genuine" transwomen should use the ladies please let everyone on the thread know their method for telling real tw (who must want to pee) from fake tw (who just want to commit sexual offences)

The method was supposed to be extensive psychological screening of adults.

venusinscorpio · 17/11/2016 00:56

There isn't such a solution, Caryl. Something's got to give. So who gets to lose out?

almondpudding · 17/11/2016 00:56

Nobody is suggesting that anyone should be able to demand to see someone else's ID.

But the police are entitled to ask about people's identity, as are service providers.

almondpudding · 17/11/2016 00:59

And yes, I'd be comfortable being asked to show ID to someone in authority if it made other women more comfortable.

Particularly as my physique is more masculine, and I'm an adult, so more gracile women and girls are at a physical disadvantage.
