To not really understand why some people are so upset by transwomen using public toilets?

I'm sorry if this offends, but I really don't understand why this is such a contentious topic. I know transwomen and they just want to pop into a cubicle, do their business and leave. I understand that there is a fear of being attacked, but I honestly think if someone is of a mind to do that they'll do it whether dressed as a woman or not.

ItsAll can I ask, if teenagers are transitioning before puberty, I assume they havent gone through puberty so no functioning penis etc...?

I would also be curious of the effect on behaviour and crime rate on those people. As in, if the levels of testosterone during puberty are so different, will it lead to different crime rates (aka is crime rate something liked iwth genes/hormones or is it a society construct)?

kua · 16/11/2016 20:49

Voyage - Why do you think this would be a problem? Transwomen use the males transmen use the females. Let's expand the bandwidth of the genders. Where is the problem with that? However these areas have been segregated by sex, not gender feelz.

Rrross1ges · 16/11/2016 20:49

Generally speaking MtF do not "pass" and would be noticed (although with more people transitioning before puberty this may change)

Oh they pass. You just don't realise it because they don't have an Adams apple and stubble.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/11/2016 20:50

voyage

I do understand your point

At the moment i know that a man (especially presenting as a man) will not be in the ladies, so i would assume that it is just a "manly" looking woman

But as i say, i have never seen anything like that

There was a woman in a suit with very short hair and no makeup the other day but she was very obviously female (and half my size which would have been a give away) She looked fabulous...i was very jealous

Mrsbird311 · 16/11/2016 20:50

I'm so sorry keep trying you might get lucky Grin

YelloDraw · 16/11/2016 20:50

And what is wrong with them doing that in the mens then?? I isn't like the need the period bins is it?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/11/2016 20:51

Oooh and i agree with kua

The woman i saw was just widening the bandwith of gender

She did look awesome

LaurieMarlow · 16/11/2016 20:53

Kindly post the evidence itsall, rather than twist my position and put words in my mouth.

For what it's worth, I believe in people's right to identify as either gender, regardless of sex. And I don't believe that the presence of a penis is the be all and end all of the matter.

letsghostdance · 16/11/2016 20:53

I drink in gay bars. In there there's drag queens (in and out of drag) in the women's bathrooms and trans people in both. I can assure you that I've never in my life felt threatened. Maybe all the transphobic people in here should get out there and meet the people they're so afraid of. Love not hate.

Sugarlightly · 16/11/2016 20:54

What about trans women without penises?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2016 20:55

Hummus I don't think enough people who have transitioned when pre-pubescent have been around long enough for a proper cohort study.

HummusForBreakfast · 16/11/2016 20:55

Laurie how do you think we should deal with MtF who are raping women?
Are they considered men or women, which gender do you think they have?

Its all good to consider then according to their gender as long as they dont carry on behaving as per their sex (or previosu gender, whatever you think fits best)

Notwhatiexpected · 16/11/2016 20:56

Trans is an umbrella term, not a description of one thing.

midcenturymodern · 16/11/2016 20:56

If anyone can actually link to some evidence of transgender women attacking cis women in the loos I might start taking the other sides argument seriously

Someone did link some at 19.14

It has also been suggested that a simple google will reveal the differences between violent and sexual crime perpetrated by men and women. Remember , allowing 'women' to be defined as a feeling opens up all sex segregated spaces to all men.

A couple of PP have suggested looking at the impact of lack of female toilets in India on participation of women in public life.

LaurieMarlow · 16/11/2016 20:56

None of those incidents involve actual transgender women though. They're just cis male arseholes, who unfortunately will always be with us.

Not a fantastic source for the compilation, but the individual new reports go to more reputable places like NBC:

www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/04/23/twenty-stories-proving-targets-pro-transgender-bathroom-policy-danger-women-children/

Now, can you provide some evidence of a Transwoman being attacked in the mens? If it helps, I can provide links to numerous selfies and even video from transwomen using the mens and not a fuck being given by anyone in the room....

HermioneWeasley · 16/11/2016 20:57

laurie if the sex segregated space of toilets is now open to men, then all sex segregated spaces are lost. That's what we are seeing as I've outlined on a previous post.

Even if it were only about toilets, lots of women don't want men in their toilets. Why don't their feelings matter? Why is a TW's desire to feel safe or have their womanhood validated more important than women feeling comfortable using space for women?

I'm still hoping for an explanation about why people with penises should be accepted in the ladies because they are absoloutely not dangerous.
And yet can't go in the men's because it's dangerous.

I've always thought that we segregate loos out of a sense of what's appropriate rather than safe. I wouldn't feel unsafe if a bloke was in the next cubicle to me, but I might get stage fright and wouldn't particularly want him to hear my poo splashes, either. My mind wouldn't automatically assume that he's a sex offender, though.

ChocChocPorridge · 16/11/2016 20:58

How do we tell?

Is there a conclusive brainscan? No. Is there a blood test or a genetic test? No. So, basically if transwomen have the right to come in, any man does. If Transwomen have the right to women's spaces, then there is no point to women's spaces.

letsghostdance · 16/11/2016 20:58

I love it when people say that "mtf never pass". Uuuuhh, ever consider that you never notice the people who don't "pass" (within narrow stereotypes of gender) so you don't get the chance to have that opinion changed. Just a thought.

kua · 16/11/2016 20:58

lets perhaps the reason we are concerned is that a lot of us are part of the LGB scene and have good reason to comment on the newly arrived T and how it has has a negative impact especially on young teens.

HermioneWeasley · 16/11/2016 20:59

laurie can you tell me how we can effectively distinguish between the "genuine" TW and the "male assholes"?

How would you class the offenders I shared screen shots of in previous posts? Because they are described as TW and identify as such - one to such an extent that they were refusing to stand trial for th murders committed when they were a man.
