I am talking pubic hair. What does everyone do with it? I hate mine (especially as I get older it's getting wilder!) but what I hate more is bumpy itchy red skin whenever I try to tackle it. However I seem to be under the impression that most women are smooth and basically hairless down there and I must seem like some sort of cave woman or 70s porn star in comparison.

My husband hasn't mentioned that he minds at all...but maybe he does?

And if everyone is hairless and neat down there please please tell me how to do it without hideous rashes!!!

Real - my husband certainly wouldn't love it.

It's sad how in a whole generation people have been conditioned to see it as good

Millymollymanatee · 13/10/2016 19:27

I just don't get why people remove their pubic hair. It's much more hygienic to shower daily and leave it alone. Removing it makes a woman look like a child, are women pandering to men who are paedophiles?

Me2017 · 13/10/2016 19:28

Nothing. It's fine as it is.

Also the hair protects you. It's not a bad thing we have it there. It's a good thing.

I am older than you OP and also used to suffer from terrible 'barber's rash' so now I don't shave but I do have professional hot wax (the Strip chain is recommended if there is one in your area). Don't let anyone use strip wax on sensitive areas or it will put you off for life! I either wear the disposable pants they give you or take an old swimsuit so it is made to measure! Once that is done I trim the remaining bush with scissors to make it neat. Alternatively in the winter I go au naturel !I always take a couple of paracetamol an hour before which takes the edge off but it's quickly over.

Gyderlily · 13/10/2016 19:32

The escapees not near any sensitive bits are beat dealt with by hair removal cream, leaves it lovely and smooth with no itchy regrowth

Wheresthewine36 · 13/10/2016 19:42

I'm in "fuck it" mode at the moment so let it roam free. I have in the past shaved it all off but fuck that for a game of soldiers - I'd rather have a hairy foof than be constantly looking for a deserted area to have a surreptitious scratch.

DistanceCall · 13/10/2016 19:42

I'm bare, because I prefer it that way. I shave in the shower, usually once a week (although I use a Lumea - previously I think it must have been 2-3 times a week). Hot shower, sharp razor, and some sort of gel that you can glide over - I tend to use this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Eucerin-Intimate-Hygiene-400ml/dp/B00YHX6UO6/

Which is not really meant for that purpose, but it's smooth and hypoallergenic, so it works really well for me. Never had any bumps or itching.

WeArePregnant11 · 13/10/2016 19:54

I sometimes slightly trim it with nail scissors, because I do have a voluminous bush down there.. and I shave the "edges" when I'm going to wear a bikini.

I do want to get laser hair treatment (or something) to clean up my bikini zone. Because I love swimming but shaving gives me some peainful red bumps...

But I don't want to remove all my hair. I'm an adult and adults have pubic hair, period :)

BusterGonad · 13/10/2016 19:56

May I just ask, at the top of this thread lots of people mentioned trimming with nail clippers???? Nail clippers.....why???

WeArePregnant11 · 13/10/2016 19:57

Uh... I use nail scissors? They're small, sharp and are already in the bathroom.

BusterGonad · 13/10/2016 19:58

Clippers. I understand scissors but clippers!

cheval · 13/10/2016 20:02

Actually really annoys me this new pressure on young women to be totally bald in their genitals. Men don't have the same pressure.
I do, though, being a hypocrite!, trim the side growth that would sprout from a swimming costume with a razor. Lather it in Vaseline afterwards to avoid rash.
Also, as an older woman, body hair is getting incredibly sparse in some places, leg hair has virtually disappeared, but sprouting in others - face. Weird.

Shona52 · 13/10/2016 20:07

I use a bikini trimmer quick easy and no bumps, ingrowing hairs etc.

WeArePregnant11 · 13/10/2016 20:17

Clippers seems weird, yes. But I guess they also cut...? But how do they get all that bushy hair between that little space? Hüh Confused?

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 13/10/2016 20:25

Never used to do anything much except trim sides. Now for some reason I hate it and it's all off shaven once or twice a week. It's absolutely fine and find it much better than trimming short as I then find the hair too spiky.

Beeziekn33ze · 13/10/2016 20:26

Doctor friend gets young women with rashes who have got rid of pubic hair from soon after they grew any. Seems to be because viewing porn is now so prevalent that young men think hairless is normal and pubic hair dirty and disgusting.

mummyhappiness · 13/10/2016 20:32

I opt for laser hair removal. Expensive but it works!! Two treatments in and very very little regroth. Very happy with the results

Lentilsmama · 13/10/2016 20:40

Wow I am SO glad to see that loads of you don't do anything to your pubic hair! I am au natural down there but every single one of my female friends does serious pruning and swear that most women do, and that I'm some kind of freak! I even hate to trim - hate the feel of those blunt hairs. Plus my husband swears he prefers a full bush as it's more womanly!

Babblehag · 13/10/2016 20:41

close shaved under carriage and sides, and haven't touched the rest for years, not that it matters, it barely grows any hair and its pretty sporadic where there is any. I'm blaming stretchmark scars. Any tips to growing a nice bouncy bush greatly appreciated.

Blueflowers2011 · 13/10/2016 20:46

short back and sides in the salon for me, when i can be bothered. I know it's time when i wont even let DH go anywhere near it.

I used to do this every 4 wks or less in my youth but since getting older and wiser I have realised it's all a bit silly really, who cares really?

But if you are going to do it, HOT wax is the best (not strip), far far less painful.

allegretto · 13/10/2016 20:48

I think clippers = trimmers. Much better than nail scissors for trimming, once had a very nasty Nick using nail scissors- put me off for life!

nailak · 13/10/2016 20:50

In many cultures from around the world shaving has been the norm for thousands of years.
This whole thing about recent societal pressure and porn comes from a very narrow view point which totally overlooks any non western norms.

No its not a recent thing because of porn. In a lot of families is something men and women have been doing for generations. As we are exposed to more cultures maybe we notice this more.

loveyogalovelife · 13/10/2016 20:51

I had mine lasered away. Smooth as a baby and never had to worry. No more ingrown hairs or stragglers. Always bikini ready... Did it for me not for anyone else. Hubby not bothered either way.

rockcake · 13/10/2016 20:57

Babblehag - haha, yes.... (so for those of us with v fine hair that can't be styled, taking it off altogether is the only answer....I've been wondering lately if a NoNo would do the job)
