I am talking pubic hair. What does everyone do with it? I hate mine (especially as I get older it's getting wilder!) but what I hate more is bumpy itchy red skin whenever I try to tackle it. However I seem to be under the impression that most women are smooth and basically hairless down there and I must seem like some sort of cave woman or 70s porn star in comparison.

My husband hasn't mentioned that he minds at all...but maybe he does?

And if everyone is hairless and neat down there please please tell me how to do it without hideous rashes!!!

I'm intrigued by all the references to the 1970s bush as if bushes didn't exist before or after the 70s.

As a teenager in the 70s, I can assure you no one in the 70s, 60s, 50s or long before then, shaved as the norm- and pretty much no one did (judging by what you read) until well into the 21st C.

Based on that, I think it's the access to porn where it's now done, because certainly in the 70s and 80s and beyond, lads' mags showed women will full muffs. There was a Stones exhibition at the Satchi gallery a while back (this year) and I am told many of the photos and videos even showed naked women with full bushes.

And the reason for it in porn is to make everything easier to see.

Catsick36 · 13/10/2016 18:09

Waxing every 4 weeks in a salon. I'm not a city slicker type.

PollyPerky · 13/10/2016 18:11

I also wonder if the fashion for waxing it all off was started by the beauty industry to make more money. gain, having had leg waxes well into the 90s, ( the year not my age) there were no Brazilians etc on the menu.

I used to play sport then and had showers- pretty much communal in changing rooms- and never saw a women who'd shaved her bush.

It's a moot point whether consumerism responds to a demand or creates one.

19Hannah · 13/10/2016 18:12

Everything off, everytime I shower! I do get shaving rash sometimes, but growing a bush (anything over three days) makes me feel unclean!

19Hannah · 13/10/2016 18:14

Also can't stand hairy men! Although my legs go a good few months without shaving, unless they'll be seen Blush

PollyPerky · 13/10/2016 18:19

Oh here we go...'makes me feel unclean'....

so people with natural hair should feel unclean? Or is this a touch of OCD?

Actually, the science shows it's healthier to have hair there. Have you not read reports on it from gynaes and dermos?

JackyBT · 13/10/2016 18:19

Bit of a trim and shave the sides. I put roll on deodorant over the shaved bit to stop the red bumpy rash - works a treat😀

MsMims · 13/10/2016 18:22

Really polly ? Do you think that's an appropriate use of OCD, a mental illness? Hmm

Notsurewhyimhere · 13/10/2016 18:23

All off tbh don't like hair on my body

Badders123 · 13/10/2016 18:25

Exhaulted....you'd love me....I have a veritable Wookie in my pants 😂
Seriously...it's all due to porn and the beauty industry making women feel abnormal for having pubic hair.
It's there for a reason Ffs!
And as for men shaving....ugh. nasty.

Mum2twoUnder4 · 13/10/2016 18:25

Shave. Make it silky smooth

ArvidsDaddy · 13/10/2016 18:26

My dw does not like shaving, but I try to entice her into with promises of oral pleasure...Wink

TigerLily666 · 13/10/2016 18:29

I started going to the salon a few years ago for waxing - started with standard bikini and now go brazilian. I used to go more regularly i.e. when I had more disposable cash but manage every couple of months now and also do my underarms (because I am too lazy to do these myself now). the underarm waxing hurts more.

Frankly hot wax is a godsend - for years I tried alternatives: Nair etc - messy, smelly, pretty ineffectual; shaving - rash and ingrowing hair; trimming - blunt hairs and lots of itching; doing nothing - again itching. For me its worth the money to wax!

spankhurst · 13/10/2016 18:38

I shave the top of my thighs when I go swimming (i.e. rarely). Personally I find bald pubic areas unattractive, but each to their own.

TopazRocks · 13/10/2016 18:49

Crikey, I just wash and dry mine regularly. I've never had any complaints. Occasionally I've strimmed (with nail scissors) it but that's quite a scary biz.

19Hannah · 13/10/2016 18:50

No Polly, I didn't say people with natural hair should feel unclean, I said it makes me feel unclean. I don't really care what anyone else does with their bush unless it's going in my mouth Hmm

Thingamajiggy · 13/10/2016 18:52

Epilate all around the edges if you're brave and otherwise get a high bikini wax in a salon (check out groupon for cheaper deals?). Trim the rest nice and short with scissors every few weeks. For me wild is not a good look and neither is bare because it looks prepubescent. Don't shave - don't even think about it.

BummyMummy77 · 13/10/2016 18:55

Before ds I'd wax or shave ow ow ow it's never worth the shaving rash but now I really can't be fucked.

When I went in to labour with ds I panicked and tried to get rid of it but couldn't reach so well so the midwives turned up to me with half a bald bush and half a foot long. Grin

I'd did manage to do my nails though which they were very amused about.

BummyMummy77 · 13/10/2016 18:57

I don't know any females that have none. All of my relatives and friends have healthy bushes whether the deal with them or not. I'm calling bullshit on the 50%!

SherbrookeFosterer · 13/10/2016 18:59

A hot bath.
A good squirt of Johnsons Baby Oil into the water.
Four squirts of Nuage Shaving Oil.
Take your time, don't rush.
A dab of Nivea afterwards and you are good to go - no spots, no rash, no irritation, just lush!

Every Good Wish! x

Realjournal123 · 13/10/2016 18:59

Please go to a salon and ask for a Brazilian or as close to one as possible. Don't be embarrassed if your hair is a bit long as they've seen it all! Don't wash for 24 hours, only water, no soaps. Your husband will love it , believe me. Use tea tree cream if you get any spots but provided you leave it alone after having it done, you should get no pimples. GO DO IT!!!!

chazf09 · 13/10/2016 19:03

I know what u mean, I feel sweatier when am hairier which of course makes me feel dirty however I cant be bothered shaving it all the time plus it keeps me warm lol

Daydream007 · 13/10/2016 19:03

Trim with scissors and beauty salon waxes it. Peel off hot wax is best for sensitive skin

FV45 · 13/10/2016 19:15

Trim a bit round the edges if I wearing a regular swim suit/bikini. But I got a boy short swim suit so I rarely bother now.

poppym12 · 13/10/2016 19:23

I'm wondering how come so many people know what their friends/relatives/colleagues do to their fanny. Pube styling doesn't really come up in conversation much in real life. It would be about as relevant to me as how often they cut their toe nails. Really, i don't care.
Many moons ago when I first got together with my OH, he kept hinting that he liked hairless so I offered to wax his ballbag if he really didn't like pubes that much. He declined.
