I am talking pubic hair. What does everyone do with it? I hate mine (especially as I get older it's getting wilder!) but what I hate more is bumpy itchy red skin whenever I try to tackle it. However I seem to be under the impression that most women are smooth and basically hairless down there and I must seem like some sort of cave woman or 70s porn star in comparison.

My husband hasn't mentioned that he minds at all...but maybe he does?

And if everyone is hairless and neat down there please please tell me how to do it without hideous rashes!!!

I keep a little bit (feel weird about having nothing like s little girl). I shave. At first it's a bit rasht but this soon stops if you persevere.

BigusBumus · 12/10/2016 16:50

I shave once a week, till almost all off, just a small landing strip left. It's only itchy on Day 3 or 4 but not that bad.

I once asked my GP mate what proportion of hairless girls she sees, she said that in general the majority of women in their 20s and below are hairless, 30s have trimmed triangles, 40s a bit messier and 50s up have the full bush. Massive generalisation but quite interesting.

user1471439240 · 12/10/2016 16:51

Takes a minute, twice a week in the shower. I prefer to be smooth.
Never understood the hassle with waxing, surely its another invention to waste money on?

kenicka · 12/10/2016 16:51

I leave it as nature intended. Occasionally give it a little trim. No one apart from DH, the kids and the odd health care professional see me naked so why would I bother. DH likes it, he has never said anything negative. If he did I still wouldn't do anything. I like it as it's nice and soft.

SplendidPanda · 12/10/2016 16:51

I get mine waxed. I live in a hot climate though so I really notice a difference with sweat (tmi?) if I don't, back in the UK I did sometimes get it waxed but it was way lower down my priority list.

Mrsemcgregor · 12/10/2016 16:52

Bigus- oh no, I have a 40/50 year old fanny!!!

Either full-on bush or a no. 2 with DP's clippers, depending on whether I can be bothered.

TerrorAustralis · 12/10/2016 16:53

Pre-DC I had laser treatment to get rid of anything outside knickers/swimsuit. I stopped when I got pregnant, but there are still some left. These days I don't do much except shave or pluck what's obvious if I'm going swimming.

I did get one fairly extreme wax that only left a tiny strip at the front. The result felt very nice, but the regrowth was intolerable! I was walking around scratching like a sweaty builder. I wouldn't do it again.

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 12/10/2016 16:54

I'm about 30 and I'd say 90% of my friends have very little/none. I normally have ipl and occasionally wax or shave as necessary. The ipl has definitely reduced my propensity to ingrown hairs/rashes. As I'm currently pregnant I can't ipl, and my pain threshold for waxing is terrible so just shaving.

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 16:55

And people say it's got nothing to do with the rise of hairless women in porn.

barefootbird · 12/10/2016 16:56

After years of waxing and getting ingrown hairs I now keep it neat with an epilator, it sounds more painful than it is but you do need to concentrate, one wrong move would be painful I should think!

BennyTheBall · 12/10/2016 16:57

All waxed off. Haven't had pubes for about 10 years now.

Alabastard · 12/10/2016 16:57

I tuck my wild bush until my knickers.

Alabastard · 12/10/2016 16:57

Into! Into!

MrsDc7 · 12/10/2016 16:57

I shave all mine off... I've been doing it for so long my skin is just used to it and I never get any soreness or ingrown hairs. I can remember getting some when I first started doing it so think my skin must just have adapted to it now. I don't like any hair there so couldn't cope with waxing because of waiting for it to be long enough. Most of my friends shave - I don't think any of them wax it xx

Crispsheets · 12/10/2016 16:58

Brazilian every four weeks and my general bikini line is lasered, as are my legs.

Mrsemcgregor · 12/10/2016 16:59

Gin- what's ipl?!

OP posts:
vlvlvlvl · 12/10/2016 16:59

I have a bikini wax every 4 weeks and just trim the rest most of the time. Occasionally I'll wax or shave it all off if I feel like it, but it's rare (or if I'm wearing a swimsuit and will be photographed, aka holidays or spa days!)

19lottie82 · 12/10/2016 17:00

I shave the sides so it doesn't stick out my pants then trim the rest to 5mm with an electric bikini trimmer

thisisafakename · 12/10/2016 17:00

I think full-on salon waxing is only an option for the super-rich. It costs about £30 for a hollywood wax and you would have to have it done every 3 weeks or so (and would be stubbly while it was growing out). No way could I afford that. I use veet wax strips when I can be bothered (it's quite painful though) or shave sometimes. I am thinking of buying a bikini trimmer and just keeping it really really short but not so short that I have to worry about in-grown hair.

roarfeckingroar · 12/10/2016 17:00

Shave the under carriage which I find isn't as sensitive then pluck the rest by hand. It's weirdly therapeutic. Yes I am strange.

frenchbubble · 12/10/2016 17:04

Am I the only person who thinks having a fanny that looks like a child's is wierd. I do have a trim but making it look like a prepubescent child seems strange, do men like that?

Mrsemcgregor · 12/10/2016 17:04

I may have to try plucking, the thought terrifies me though! I really don't like how far outside of my pants hair is beginning to grow!!

BastardGoDarkly · 12/10/2016 17:05

Gin I love your name and Pete with a passion

I trim the volume when I CBA (not often) my friend's always telling me how nice waxed feels, but no, couldn't get my muff out for a beautician, and NO WAY would I try that shit myself!

ragz134 · 12/10/2016 17:05

I am generally wild down there but shave the sides before swimming. Prefer Nair if I have some in though (Pound land!) As regrowth is less uncomfortable. I will trim volume with hair trimmers/scissors if it's really bushy. DH likes a full bush and I have only ever taken the whole lot off twice and didn't really like it. Looked like a fat child!
I trim for smears etc so it doesn't get in the way!
I'm 31 but never been much into beauty treatments...
