To think that black is the only colour for a car?

Apart from cute little Fiats or whatever, which can carry pink, lime green etc quite happily...
But a grown up car: can it be a colour that's not black? Or maybe, at a pinch, very dark metallic grey?
And if it's black outside, does it have to be black inside as well?
Obviously I use the term 'has to' loosely and not in a sense that everyone will be willing to recognise. But basically, if you were buying a car, and had some input as to colour, would you go for anything that wasn't black?

YABU. Red is an awesome colour for a car - doesn't show the dirt and is easy to spot in a car park.

AlpacaPicnic · 06/10/2016 22:17

IMHO the only acceptable colours are...
Black
Ferrari Red
Royal blue
British Racing Green.

You may have white if you have a VWBug and wish to paint it like Herbie...

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 06/10/2016 22:19

My car is a dark metallic grey. It is the dullest, most anonymous car you've ever seen in your life. I can't find it in car parks.
I'd like a nice intense green or the bright metallic blue of my last car. And I'm a grown up.

BrillianaHarvey · 06/10/2016 22:20

Both those points are undeniably true. But (1) our current car is red and (2) red feels a bit mid-life crisis. Also - yes, I'm going to admit it - when we'd just got the red car my sister said 'What did you buy a RED car for?'
So I'm trying to work out whether my prejudice against red cars amounts to anything more than sibling rivalry.

Black always looks dirty, we had black car until earlier this year and would look dull and smeared most of the time, never again! I like white or electric blue.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 06/10/2016 22:21

Not actually sure if you're being unreasonable but I bloody hate yellow cars...just no need!

ineedamoreadultieradult · 06/10/2016 22:21

I have a black estate car with a black interior. I go from feeling very professional and grown up to feeling like I'm driving a hearse. And I can never find it in the car park.

BrillianaHarvey · 06/10/2016 22:22

Alpaca is it OK for a car to be Ferrari red if it's not a Ferrari?

OwlinaTree · 06/10/2016 22:22

This is weird. Why black? Do you think it's more grown up or serious or somthing?

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 06/10/2016 22:23

I love love love canary yellow cars. Always make me smile. Grin

clumsyduck · 06/10/2016 22:23

My predudice to red cars is the fucker faded to pink in parts . And black nooooo !! the black one was to hard to clean , streaky as fuck . Boring old silver over here. White cars are pretty

OwlinaTree · 06/10/2016 22:23

I'd love a yellow car giveme!

londonrach · 06/10/2016 22:24

Black cars are funeral cars and its the only colour bar bright pink or orange i wouldnt have for a car! Yabu...red is best but open to others colours bar black.

Chlorella · 06/10/2016 22:24

I had a silvery grey car and I was always getting cut up on the motorway. I think it merged into the grey road and grey sky! Mine is dark blue now (and sporty Grin ) and I love it!

Felascloak · 06/10/2016 22:24

I misread the title and thought you were talking about cats! In which case YANBU
Cars though, I want a red one next. So yabu

SealSong · 06/10/2016 22:24

Nope. I've got a Polo in blue silk, it looks fantastic (muted mid blue-grey metallic).

SeasonalVag · 06/10/2016 22:25

As long as it isn't Chav white which looks as though you're driving a washing machine.

NotVeryWhite · 06/10/2016 22:26

Black cars show every spot of dust and need to be washed regularly. The best colour for hiding dirt is silver. Red card look nice and sporty. White cars are too popular in certain crowds yes I'm looking at you, Arbonne!

gabsdot · 06/10/2016 22:26

My favourite car was my yellow/gold ford focus estate.
I was always able to find it in the supermarket car park.

laloue · 06/10/2016 22:27

I have a gorgeous black sports car...love it, but it's a sod to clean. Last one was green, next one will be white ( finances permitting). But a black interior with piano black dash is compulsory :0)

BrillianaHarvey · 06/10/2016 22:28

This is all very interesting and it looks as though my anti-red car prejudice may be something I need to address. (Probably in therapy, while I discuss my relationship with my sister...)
What about the mid-life crisis thing though?
Have (unwisely) read a selection replies to DH, who is Smirking.

I read the op as cat. Must be Halloween bedtimes

woodhill · 06/10/2016 22:30

I think black is less visible to other drivers.

Black cars are fine..... providing you live somewhere with no rainfall...... if you live somewhere where it pisses down frequently when you learn that a silver car is the best grown up option.
