To think that black is the only colour for a car?

Apart from cute little Fiats or whatever, which can carry pink, lime green etc quite happily...
But a grown up car: can it be a colour that's not black? Or maybe, at a pinch, very dark metallic grey?
And if it's black outside, does it have to be black inside as well?
Obviously I use the term 'has to' loosely and not in a sense that everyone will be willing to recognise. But basically, if you were buying a car, and had some input as to colour, would you go for anything that wasn't black?

Both of my cars have been red.

I like a good red car.

I was told by an insurance bloke that red cars are less likely to be in an accident. Other drivers see red and subconsciously think "danger!" and are more careful around it.

They see a red car, I mean. They don't become furious.

YANBU

No one wants to buy wacky colours second hand.

Always black, charcoal it's an exceptional deal.

I've had a white car, a dark blue one, a light blue one and now a silver one. Next car is going to be a bright colour!

Ive had

White - always looked mucky, probably because we live in the country
Mustard - looked weird but was a fab runner
Canary yellow - never ever lost in carparks
White again
Dark blue - lousy runner
Burgandy - too samey
Red - fun car till it got written off
Now i have a white car again and it still looks mucky

Would never drive a green car as any accident bar the red car involved a green car

Black cars are awful, they constantly look dirty.

Red and blue are both nice but yellow is my favourite!

Black cars look gorgeous on the showroom forecourt.

Once you actually drive or park them or it rains they show up every speck of dirt & look a mess constantly.

Mine is purple. Well, mauve officially. I love it.

Silver cars look naked and can't be found in a car park.

Yellow cars are always driven by flakes who keep theur chin on the steering wheel who have a habit of panicking and changing lane at a point where they almost drive you of the road.

Current car is black - in a "pearl" finish which is lovely but mostly just blends in with the mud, salt, pollen or whatever is coating the car, this week. Previous ones have been graphite and "Kielder green"

IVe always had white cars. 5 white cars until now. I have a bright orange Range Rover. My husband said a white Range Rover wasn't obnoxious enough for me Grin

A theme definitely emerging...There really is nothing like Mumsnet for answering questions you couldn't ask anywhere else.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I find all shades of grey and black cars extremely dull. To me that are very anonymous colours with no hint of personality at all - a bit like the old Spitting Image portrayal of John Major. Give me a bright colour any time. Favourite is red, but I also like the brighter blues and greens that are available now.

Don't mind what colour, as long as it's not 'Wheelie Bin' Grey. Who on earth invented that paint colour?

Unless the colour of your car is in some way iconic/synonymous with the make/model (Ferraris can be red, Subarus can be blue, Focus RS' can be lime green etc), then the only acceptable colours are monochrome from mid grey to black.

Black and grey are so boring for cars. Makes me think the driver is boring too.

Would also love an orange car! They should be bright and stand out against road surfaces. I wouldn't buy a black or grey car for that reason.

I am superstitious about green cars (passed to me from my dad) so green is a no car. Black is boring and difficult to keep clean and I hate my silver car, it looks unfinished! Open to other colours (I had a lovely little yellow fiesta as my first car and I loved it).

No problems with red! We'e had red cars for about fifteen years, before we hit mid-life crisis. I don't dislike dark silvery grey (and may choose that for next car) but I do like nice red.
I find black a bit dull.
Personally I'd like a silly coloured Fiat 500 but I need a family car that can go 1500 miles ;).

I've always had blue cars in the past and scoffed at my exDP when he said he'd like an orange car. Somehow when I got my new car I ended up buying an orange one and I love it. Just looking at it makes me smile, its brilliant and best of all there is a man i pass on my way to work every morning going the other way who has the same make and model in the same colour, we wave at each other every morning like a mutual appreciation of the orange car club kind of wave Grin

My car is Mayan blue and I love it. Sporty looking, visible in car parks and other road users have no excuse for not seeing me.
