To think that black is the only colour for a car?

Apart from cute little Fiats or whatever, which can carry pink, lime green etc quite happily...
But a grown up car: can it be a colour that's not black? Or maybe, at a pinch, very dark metallic grey?
And if it's black outside, does it have to be black inside as well?
Obviously I use the term 'has to' loosely and not in a sense that everyone will be willing to recognise. But basically, if you were buying a car, and had some input as to colour, would you go for anything that wasn't black?

DF has a black estate car and it makes me feel like I'm in a hearse. DP has a Black Alfa Romeo, but he does like to be anonymous.

I like coloured cars, personally.

Mine is a apricot colour and I love it so easy to find in the car park.

Black is a BORING colour for a car. Ditto white, silver or grey.

My car is a deep, passata red. It's beautiful, very visible in low light conditions and I never lose it in a car park.

Yellow Car, free punch.

White used to be the cheapest colour option in car brochures, and you'd pay more for metallic.

Ford now charge more for 'Polar White' or something.

White Prius (plural for Prius??) look like steam irons.

I won't ever have another black car. They show every scratch, mark, scuff and all the dirt. They streak as soon as washed and always need leathering or waxing after washing. I've had a lovely silver Clio and an electric blue Saxo and loved them both. I also like yellow cars. The only colour I have sworn off is "champagne" - ultimate old biddy 40mph car colour!

Black or white are the only acceptable colours for cars.

Or I would have had black. I like black cars.

I know for a while you couldn't get black cars (probably the 70s) when they first started using machines to mass produce parts, as black showed up the imperfections more.

Then for a while the basic options when picking cars were Red, White and Black and you paid more for other colours or the metallic ones.

I picked orange for mine because it's a nice colour of orange (more like a terracotta really) and it's slightly metallic, but also I can easily spot it in the car park.

Although there are some colours I couldn't have - bright pink being one of them. A colleague of mine has a lime green car and it just hurts my eyes looking at it. Mind you, I suppose if you're in it and driving it you don't actually have to see the colour.

With others who say it depends on the car, this is very true. Another colour I don't like on any car - maroon...bleugh !

My DP says this as well. His next car won't be black because even when it's been cleaned, it still looks dirty because all the tiny specks of dust show up very easily on it. It's hard to keep them looking nice. Mud and rain somehow looks worse on them too.

The only colours I've properly sworn off are brown (bleurgh) because it just makes me think of my dad's 1970s Brown Ford Cortina which we hated.

My dad had a thing about our cars being highly visible for safety. Consequently we spent our childhood in a succession of bright yellow DAFs Blush known as the "yellow perils".

I have to say I don't like having a small metallic silver hatchback. Even if people do see it they assume an old lady is pottering along slowly in it and cut me up regardless. We always buy used cars so you don't always get to choose colour over condition, mileage etc. Next one will be red or white if I get to choose.

I'm pretty sure my dad had a thing for brown. Brown car, brown sofa, brown carpet, brown suits, brown oven, brown microwave...

Well, it was the colour of the 70s/80s I suppose. Having to drive round in what was 'affectionately' known as "The Flying Turd" was a bit embarrassing as I got older though. And then he made it worse by replacing it with a GOLD car!

I've had a yellow car for 16 years, I can always find it in a car park.

they say that bright yellow - in the middle of the spectrum - is the safest for all-round visibility.....We were just remarking yesterday how many times in the last few weeks some drivers had been totally oblivious to us and nearly gone into the side of us..including a taxi driver

Black, silver, grey all very boring and make it impossible to find your car in a car park.

Mine is black and white and looks like a Stormtrooper!

I used to have a purple Ka and loved it. Now I have a rather boring slightly bluey silver grey car.

I used to live four miles up a narrow wooded lane and had a red car for visibility - I certainly wouldn't have driven a black car up there!

Black always looks dirty, we had black car until earlier this year and would look dull and smeared most of the time, never again!

You need to get a 'lifeshine' treatment on it. NOTHING sticks and it always looks immaculate.

My sports car is black outside with a black leather interior.

I feel like a drug dealer Grin

Seriously though, I like silver, grey, British Racing Green, true blue, navy, gold and pewter. I saw an orange Ferrari once and it looked amazing.

I love a cream or cream and tan leather interior on a car too. I really think it depends on the car though.

I think red cars look a bit old fashioned to be honest.

The only colour i really dislike on a car is white as they're so ubiquitous now and try-hard and remind me of Forever Living reps and the like.

I can't believe some people think only black/silver/white are "acceptable" Shock how small minded!!

My absolute overriding factor when choosing a car is safety; bright coloured cars are definitely safer. I do a lot of motorway driving and on heavy rain silver cars especially just disappear .
