Priority seats on trains!!!!

I was on a busy train this morning and an elderly disabled lady boarded the train, there were no seats and she was tentatively looking around, so I asked if anyone could let this lady sit down (I was stood up) - everyone looked away and a bloke actually said 'well, I'm playing cards so I can't- these young boys could get up'.

Another man did get up in the end but AIBU to expect common decency to remove yourself from a seat if a disabled person gets on the train? And playing cards isn't a valid reason not to get up? In addition he was a bit ageist in suggesting that the young boys could get up but he couldn't possibly?

Btw I didn't aim it at anyone in particular as some people may have really needed their seat but if it was me I would have been the first person to get up- maybe I have too high expectations.

I hate the assumptions in these threads. There are always people whinging about "young" or "healthy" people not giving up their seat when they have no fucking idea how healthy those people are.

It's a sore spot for me because you can't tell how much pain I'm in by looking at me. I don't give up my seat for pregnant women because I may well need the seat more than them. If someone asked me to give me their seat I wouldn't, and no I wouldn't give them my medical history to convince them I wasn't just an arsehole. When you're fat, people blame you for medical conditions; even when it's the conditions making you fat.

Don't judge. You really don't know.

I have vertigo & it's safer for me and others to be sat down or leaning against the wall on the tube. Got up for a pregnant lady once and was told off when I almost fell on her Blush
