to want some peace and quiet on the ward?

It's 3:30am and I'm losing my mind.

I was admitted to antenatal yesterday morning for induction. So far fuck all is happening and I'm exhausted. In a stupid amount of pain and all I want to do is sleep.

But of course that's not going to happen is it? I'm in a bay with two other beds. Across from me is the snorer but really I could probably block her out. The problem is the other patient who is surgically attached to her fucking iPhone. It's the middle of the night and she's ringing all of her friends for a chat. Who does that when people are trying to sleep?! I don't give a fuck if she's missing a party to be induced. I want to enjoy the totally useless paracetamol they've deigned to give me and try to get a little rest.

The midwife isn't helping much either. She's rather old fashioned and I'm surprised she hasn't locked us in. I tried to go for a walk to escape iPhone girl and she escorted me back to bed.

AIBU to expect a little peace and quiet in here? Seriously losing it right now.

Far points but I'd rather be in the hospital! My GD was like a roller coaster while being induced, they sometimes have to use glucose or insulin drips, not going to happen if you've gone home.

CwtchyQ · 07/02/2016 22:12

Bloody hell OP. I am not far from you. All I can say is - I'm really bloody sorry you've been treated this way.

The idea of giving birth in those conditions makes me v upset. What the actual fuck. Hope you get better care on the delivery ward.

You poor thing, sending loads of hugs and kisses xxxx

waxweasel · 07/02/2016 22:29

Good luck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2016 23:00

I hope it is going better.

I was once on a ward trying to sleep with geriatric patients, one was very distressed, the other thought it might be because she had lost her cat and told her frequently through the night that she had found it and it was on her bed. It got a little more surreal when she decided it was only half a cat she had found.

harboromummy · 07/02/2016 23:04

Good luck!

I was supposed to have been induced at 39 weeks due to big baby.

I was on a ward for 5 days with nothing happening, not even started on the induction because I was "high risk" and no beds in delivery for me. Yet every other woman around me were being started and going off to have their babies x

PitilessYank · 07/02/2016 23:33

Yikes! It sounds like there is not much privacy or respect for your dignity going on. I don't much like this group room situation, because of the noise but also because I do think a woman needs a bit of privacy, especially with a first baby.

I yelled quite a bit during my first labor due to pain (I surprised myself, I had no idea I would be so loud and swear-y), but the saving grace was that I had a private room, which is standard where I live.

Also, there was (and this was 17 years ago) a nice system whereby one could order meals from a menu at whatever time one was hungry-there were no set mealtimes. I remembered that when I saw your disappointing cabbage. They said it saves the hospital a ton of money on wasted food.

We are rooting for you!

Thanks

PitilessYank you turn IV fluids off overnight to let patients sleep....really!...thats a disiplinary on my ward....patients are prescribed IV fluids by a doctors for a reason!!

BillSykesDog · 08/02/2016 01:48

Good luck!!

ChickadeeChick · 08/02/2016 02:22

Well done!!!

PitilessYank · 08/02/2016 02:28

Potatoface-I am a medical doctor-I avoid ordering unnecessary treatments overnight to allow my patients to get sleep. If you like, earlier in this thread I explained that I do my best to avoid middle-of-the-night schedule for antibiotics, diuretics, etc. Only if it is medically neutral and I always ask the nurses' opinion first. They nurses and patients seem to appreciate it, honestly.

PitilessYank · 08/02/2016 02:29

Sometimes, as you know, IVFs are ordered without a lot of thought and are not necessary 24/7.

Sodorisland · 08/02/2016 02:57

Good luck op
