Sil and designer clothes obsession

Probably am being U. Dh accused me of being bitchy about it earlier.

My sil had her first baby (girl) 8 months ago. I don't think I've ever seen the poor little thing in anything high street. Designer stuff (think Dior, Chloe, Burberry). This isn't personal, my sil has always been v lovely to me. I just can't see the point. Even her changing bag is Gucci or something similar. The excuse that is constantly trotted out on her behalf is that it took her 3 years to have her and why not. I just find it a bit odd. I don't think it's that she buys labels for the sake of it because most of it isn't obviously branded if that makes sense. Dh thinks I'm being unreasonable, but am I?

Why do you even care what she chooses to dress her child in? Is she asking you to cover the cost?

YABU it's her money, she can spend it how she likes. If she is flush enough to spend it on a top her DD will only wear once with a limited window of 3 months available it's her choice.

Still think it's silly though but I'm a bitch

P.S. You're going to get a thread full of people telling you their kids only wore white baby grows till they went to school now. Grin

Re-read my post and see how it comes across that way. I didn't mean to sound so serious, I just wonder why she can't just put her in normal stuff! It's become the family joke, "ooh I wonder what X will be dressed in today?" When we all visit mils. Mil thinks it's hilarious (sil is her only daughter and this is the first grandchild). Grin funny thing is that sil spends very little on clothes and actually hates shopping! I just wonder if the money is better spent else where. I'm only being light hearted btw. I'm obviously not losing sleep over this and I adore my niece

There are a shit load of things I find a big odd but I figure that I don't need to 'get' everything and not everything needs to have a point beyond 'because'.

I think babies in top to toe designer clothes is a bit pointless and tacky (yes, I could dress my baby in designer if I wished to), but each to their own.

My cousin puts enormous head band bows on her daughter to emphasise she's a girl. I find it hilarious, but appears to make her happy so whatever.

Oh so its just general chit chat and curiosity over this kind of thing...
I know a few people who do the same, and i do personally find it pointless. Each to their own though, if they and their child/ren are happy that is all that matters.

I have avoided brands at all costs with mine as i knew the age would come when they wanted them. Age 11 hits and there it is. Thankfully, its only trainers...for now.

It's a bit sad and entirely pointless.

what if she had a second baby and it only took a month of trying?
Would that baby be deserving of her own designer finery too or would she have to do with the hand me down?

No one needs pictures of clothes. Hmm It is bugger all to do with us or you. Seriously, get a grip about this. If you don't you will end up obsessing. Let it go. It has zero to do with you and has not bearing on your life.

Oh god no! It was a beautiful dress and she looked adorable but my point is that tk max (to name just one place) do things v similar for 150£ less!

I think your getting a hard time OP. I get what PP are saying but in the real world I think you'll find 95% of people would agree it's madness to be spending such money on clothes for a kid that won't be in them more than 5 minutes. It's not as if you've confronted your SIL so I don't get why YABU for having an opinion.

Baby isn't even here yet but she happened to be here when a few designer bits and bobs arrived (first, long awaited baby + sales = too much temptation) and she's been making bitchy comments about it ever since. No idea why it's bothered her!

My friend tried for her baby for five years (there won't be another) and buys designer and spends loads more than I do, I'v not even thought twice about it till now. Why does it matter. Are you jealous of the money they have to spend on the babies clothes?

It wouldn't be my choice to buy designer baby clothes as I would rather spend my money elsewhere but each to their own.

Unless your SIL is buying her baby's designer clothes to the detriment of food or shelter, then it's really not an issue.
