I will first of all admit to having a very annoying habit of having a glass of water almost constantly at the side of the couch so I can drink whole feeding ds2. Anyway I am upstairs with DCS, OH downstairs and I hear him shouting 'fucking cunt, what a fucking place to leave a glass of water'..having obviously knocked it. I hate cursing but especially that word. Aibu to be quite disgusted? Little things like this really annoy him.

Horrible and OTT. And I don't see what is so annoying about always having a glass of water available. If you always have one around then he should be used to it by now.

SweetieDrops · 08/01/2016 17:20

It's a total overreaction and a horrible word to use around the DCs, he should get a grip and try some self control.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 08/01/2016 17:21

Is he usually such a twat?

Behooven · 08/01/2016 17:21

It's not the glass that's the cunt here tbh

Shutthatdoor · 08/01/2016 17:23

Did it spill over something important? not excusing it

Skullyton · 08/01/2016 17:26

so he's on his own downstairs without you or the kids present, kicks over a glass of water, likely getting it all over the floor and possibly his foot, and everyone thinks he's a twat for swearing?

Fucks sake, even i would probably say 'fucking stupid thing!" if i kicked a glass of water over.

and it IS a stupid place to leave it if its where it can be kicked.

Honestly, some people are so fucking sensitive.. get over it. he wasn't shouting at you!

WipsGlitter · 08/01/2016 17:28

Come on. You sound a right priss. And if it was balanced somewhere really silly then I'd be pissed off too.

Wombatinabathhat · 08/01/2016 17:28

It's not a word I use but he's an adult and can say what he likes.
Can't see why you're so het up about it.
Imo - yabu

AliceInUnderpants · 08/01/2016 17:29

Was it on a table or on the floor?

JohnLuther · 08/01/2016 17:30

If I knocked a glass of water over I'd be fucking swearing too Grin

BirdsInMyPants · 08/01/2016 17:30

I react like that sometimes. I have issues with my anger which aim continuously trying to work on. Slowly but successfully.

Figwin · 08/01/2016 17:32

I don't know if this is a cultural thing as you said "cursing" that maybe you're American and if so then it might seem harsh but I'm a Brit and that's pretty standard to me

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/01/2016 17:32

If it was on the floor, I'd be inclined to understand. If it's on a table, HIBU.

MrsCrabb · 08/01/2016 17:33

Leaving a glass where it can be kicked over is a bit stupid but that's an extreme reaction.

Is it early days of new baby and the extreme stress/tiredness that goes with it, the glass being the last straw maybe?

I'd be very unhappy if these kinds of outbursts were a regular thing. Can't believe anyone thinks it's OK with dc tbh.

ImperialBlether · 08/01/2016 17:34

Pretty standard, Figwin? I don't know anyone who says it.

WickedWax · 08/01/2016 17:34

If it's left on the floor (with the potential of someone standing in it and ending up with glass in their foot) or the arm of the couch or some other stupid place i.e. Not on a coffee table, and you do it constantly, then I can see his frustration. It is a fucking stupid place to leave it and it wasn't as if he was shouting up the stairs calling you a cunt.

Walkingintheraindrops · 08/01/2016 17:36

LtbGrin

Sorry, I don't think it's a big deal either. Some people hate that word, some use it. He's an adult and he gets to decide whether he uses it or not....

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 08/01/2016 17:37

He was calling her a cunt? Or have I misread?

Pretty big difference between saying "stupid fucking thing" or "for fuck's sake" and having your partner call you a "stupid cunt".

At least in my relationships.

MoMoTy · 08/01/2016 17:39

Horrible word to use but you did something stupid, why don't you pick it up before you go off?

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 08/01/2016 17:40

Sounds like he was venting in an empy room

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 08/01/2016 17:41

swearing in front of children is not a good idea in case the repeat it loudly in the bank

but leaving a glass of water at the side of the sofa is bloody stupid and I woud be pissed off too. could cut someones foot.

Figwin · 08/01/2016 17:41

He could have been calling the glass a cunt. I know a few mugs that are right twats.

BlueSmarties76 · 08/01/2016 17:42

Meh. I wouldn't get worked up about it unless he was shouting upstairs to call YOU a fucking cunt, then I'd be annoyed. But just hearing him swear? No problem.

Also, why should 'cunt' be regarded as being such a terrible swear word in comparison to 'dick' for example? Lady parts are no more offensive than man parts!

incidentally, I also wondered if you're American, not that it matters much, but Brits do (I'm told) have a reputation for swearing a lot.

Walkingintheraindrops · 08/01/2016 17:44

OP wasn't even in the room thelater

goddessofsmallthings · 08/01/2016 17:45

If "little things like this really annoy him" he needs to attend an anger management course because outbursts such as the one you've described will make him a poor role model for your dc.
