I will first of all admit to having a very annoying habit of having a glass of water almost constantly at the side of the couch so I can drink whole feeding ds2. Anyway I am upstairs with DCS, OH downstairs and I hear him shouting 'fucking cunt, what a fucking place to leave a glass of water'..having obviously knocked it. I hate cursing but especially that word. Aibu to be quite disgusted? Little things like this really annoy him.

OP posts:
Osolea · 08/01/2016 17:46

It was very silly to leave a glass of water next to the sofa, especially when you have left the room, so it's understandable for him to be annoyed. Maybe he over reacted, but it's not really a big deal is it? It's not like he's having a go at you or anything, he's just ranting to himself, a,d he can use whatever words he likes to do that.

Figwin · 08/01/2016 17:46

imperial I'm definitely not alone. The TV show Doll & Em did a whole scene dedicated to the word.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 08/01/2016 17:49

I know she wasn't in the room, but the way I read the OP he was calling her a cunt (for leaving the glass of water on the floor)

I'd say it's only slightly less foul to hear your partner calling an inanimate object a cunt in the hearing of your children than hearing yourself called it tbh.

Me and dp both swear like troopers but I wouldn't want my child calling his mates a twat at school because he hears us saying it...

rageagainsttheBIL · 08/01/2016 17:50

"It's not like he's having a go at you or anything, he's just ranting to himself, a,d he can use whatever words he likes to do that."

Yes but you don't rant like that about someone you love, whether they can hear or not, do you?? Especially over a glass of water.

Lauren15 · 08/01/2016 17:51

If it was on the floor that's bloody stupid of you. However nothing justifies using that language when children are in the house and may hear.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/01/2016 17:51

OP, come back! I'm dying to know where this sodding glass of water was! Grin

Shutthatdoor · 08/01/2016 17:51

If "little things like this really annoy him" he needs to attend an anger management course because outbursts such as the one you've described will make him a poor role model for your dc.

If the OP does it all the time then this could be the umpteenth time it has been knocked over. I'd be a bit pissed off too.

ChubbyPolecat · 08/01/2016 17:53

It reads to me like he was calling her a stupid cunt like talking about her to himself. The time my boyfriend called me a cunt in a similar casual way was the last time, it just showed an utter lack of respect for me in my opinion. I didn't have a baby with him though

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/01/2016 17:56

His language was extreme, but I'm a big fan of "FUCK'S SAKE" when I kick something accidentally. I'm about to be a mother, oh dear.

SpittyWoonerisms · 08/01/2016 17:56

Yeah it also sounds to me like he was using the word cunt to refer to the OP. It does show a lack of respect, I would feel the same as you OP!!

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 08/01/2016 18:00

Sounds like me on an almost daily basis.

If I'm alone in a room and stub my toe/knock something over/forget something I will often have a little sweary rant.

It's really no big deal imo, unless there is a huge backstory of anger issues from him.

decisionsdecisions123 · 08/01/2016 18:02

People on here seems to think its quite alright to use the f word all the time. I think its a shame they cant see how horrible and rude it sounds.

FishEye · 08/01/2016 18:03

Fucks sake OP what would you say if you kicked over a glass of water? "Oh dear, silly me! Hahaha."

Poor bloke.

Are you American?

WaitrosePigeon · 08/01/2016 18:04

Totally agree with Skullyton. No need to get in a tizz.

diddl · 08/01/2016 18:06

It dies sound as if he was indirectly saying about the Op.

Bloody annoying habit though, Op as you acknowledge.

Get something with a lid!

SpecialistSnowflake · 08/01/2016 18:06

The second part of his sentence is fair enough tbh, I'd be annoyed too. If this is something you do often you need to find a practical situation, like a small occasional table next to where you sit.

But was he calling the situation a 'fucking cunt', or you?! Could you tell? Because if it was aimed at you, you have a really shitty life partner.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 08/01/2016 18:10

Honestly if my OH left a glass of water next to the sofa and I knocked it over I would be swearing like a navvy. It would be forgotten unless he did it again, then I would direct my rage at him not the glass for being so bloody stupid.

bumblebeerat · 08/01/2016 18:11

I read it the way I lose my rag with inanimate objects. When my dp leaves cups on sofas ect and I end up knocking them down usually smashing them I call them all sorts of things. It usually goes "who left that there stupid fucking thing!" Always seems to happen when I'm having an already stressful day.

NinjaClaws · 08/01/2016 18:11

I would definitely LTB if he swore like that over a knocked glass of water.
A few 'Fuck's are fine but definitely not calling anyone a cunt.

babyboomersrock · 08/01/2016 18:11

Shouting and swearing over a glass of spilt water?

What happens when something major annoys him?

If he'd muttered under his breath - like any normal human being - then OP wouldn't have heard him, but she says he shouted - so her dc heard him too. He wanted her to know he was angry at her. How mature.

amarmai · 08/01/2016 18:14

he is the fc , op as he shouted that nastiness loud enuf for you and cc to hear. He is full of anger and is intolerant towards you and the cc. Think carefully about your future with a person who reacts like this over such an insignificant slip matter.

bumblebeerat · 08/01/2016 18:14

Think I better leave home thenas I'm often known to shout at random objects it's better to take my anger out on them than the kids. Plus if she's done it 100s of times before I'd be pretty peed off too

Ditsy4 · 08/01/2016 18:14

I think it is awful. I would extremely annoyed if my DH called me that. Speak to him later and let him know you heard. You might want to use a plastic glass/tumbler for safety. If he continues to use that language so will your children. I don't allow the f or c word in my house and my grown up boys get told off if they use it.

NellysKnickers · 08/01/2016 18:15

That's something I would possibly say if I thought I was alone and no-one could here. Also it would have been the glass I was calling a cunt not the person who left it there. Give him a break, he didn't shout " OP you are a cunt"

NellysKnickers · 08/01/2016 18:16

Hear not here
