AIBU to want a bit more money

My mum has just got a cheque for a claim she put in a year ago. Anyway a grand of it will go to my brother, 400 to me because I owe her money for a ps4 I got through her catalogue last year. 200 will go into savings, and 200 on my debts but I have 600 pound worth of debt so I'm thinking of just using it all on my debts.
AIBU to want a bit more money?

Yes yabu to expect anything never mind nit being grateful for what you're getting. It's not your mum or your brothers faults that you have debts.

Sort your own money out - if you have none don't buy stuff like PS4's from catalogues!

Everyone wants more money. You can't expect people to just give it to you.

How did she give me money for the ps4 before? It was on her catalogue so on finance. Now it needs paid back.

Yabu to still owe your mum £600 for a luxury item bought a year ago. If it was just a ps4 and cost £600 you got screwed.

YANBU, but seeing as your mum is obviously very tight with her money, I don't think you will get any more out of her. You need a Plan B.
Personally, if it were me I wouldn't bother savings or debt, and would put it all on Laugh Aloud in the 4.10 at Kempton, as my mates brothers cousin knows the SIL of the jockey that is riding it!

Why would anyone buy a PS4 on finance when you can get books from the library for no cost?

Why work part time if you want more money> I work 6 or 7 days most weeks full time and not surprisingly I can afford a PS4 if I wanted one and I wouldn't need my mother to buy me anything.

so - she is paying off £600 on the PS4 and then handing you £400, and you have £600 of debt (not including the PS4)

Pay off £400 of the debt then

Can we just clarify? your mum is giving your brother £1000, but she is giving you £800 is that right? But you will only physically get £400 because you owe her 400 for the PS4?

£400 on a PS4, even accounting for high uncatalogue APR, wouldn't cost £600 after a year, would it? That's 50% APR.

I don't think OP means she owes £600 on a ps4
I think it's £400 on Littlwoods for PS4 and then £600 on other debts.

I missed the bit where she said why it is she feels entitled to any of her ums money in the first place? I also mosed the bit where she accted whatever her Mum offered her with gratitude and grace?
I didn't miss the bit where she sounded like a petulent child and the bit where she sounded aggrieved that her brother, whos finances are unknown, is getting "a grand".

You sound careless with money tbh. Why would you buy a ps4 on credit if you have loads in debt on top? If you are in debt you pay that, then get savings all before buying crap from a catalogue

If you paid £400 for just a console you have also been truly ripped off. I saw one early for £289, including two new games and accessories. You pay a good 25% on top of retail using those catalogues

I don't know or care what a PS4 is Blush but I'm assuming its an unnecessary item that you could probably live without?

Presumably your mum has been paying for the PS4, servicing the interest on the debt and not getting anything back from you. That will be why she's giving your bother overall more than the £800 she's giving you.

Quite honestly I think you're really lucky. Not many people incur a debt then have their mum pay it back for them AND give them £400 to use as they like.fi

I hope some of the money goes on buying your mum a lovely christmas present and your new years resoultion is to get a grip on your finances.
