I'm not. I know I'm not. I'm personally going to have a glass of wine and celebrate there being a significant amount of egg on the Tories' faces.

I'm really hoping this is about tax credits

NeferNeferuAten · 26/10/2015 20:52

I never thought I would be so glad that the House of Lords exist.

Fantastic news, I hope working families sleep a bit easier tonight instead of worrying about what April will bring

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 26/10/2015 20:55

Merry Christmas everyone Grin

YDNBU!

BlueMoonRising · 26/10/2015 20:57

It's a bizarre turn of events when the house of lords are working harder for the low paid than the government.

Respect to them tonight!

weebarra · 26/10/2015 20:57

I listened to a bit of Baroness Meacher's speech on the way home from work and was so impressed by what she said. Something like, these are people who we are trying to convince that work does pay, and we're pulling the rug out from under than. Never been prouder to have an unelected second chamber!

Shutthatdoor · 26/10/2015 20:57

YANBU.

A delay is better than nothing.

I just hope it doesn't mean however they now go after the more vulnerable Sad

MascaraAndConverse · 26/10/2015 20:57

Some benefit bashers will be having a sulk tonight Grin

Hehehe.

Nottodaythankyouorever · 26/10/2015 20:59

Whilst it is a good thing obviously, let's not forget that it is a delay not abandoned.

YouTheCat · 26/10/2015 21:01

Can we have a vote of no confidence next? That would be the icing on the cake.

Darvany · 26/10/2015 21:02

Good news. I just hope the people who voted them in and felt let down don't forget in five years time.

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/10/2015 21:03

Labour really knew what they were doing when they installed all those extra peers Wink.

floatyflo · 26/10/2015 21:05

Can someone explain what's happened and what will happen now?

Bubblesinthesummer · 26/10/2015 21:05

As I said on another thread.

I just hope that those that have fought against this do the same when the next 'group' is under 'fire' which will probably be the disabled

UselessArticle · 26/10/2015 21:06

Thank God for that. Even if it is just a delay, it's a massive help for me and the children. Phew!

Flaming0pie · 26/10/2015 21:07

Well I for one will deffo sleep better tonight. Thank you House of Lords Wine Flowers

Methemummy · 26/10/2015 21:09

The fact that the house of Lords have voted against the cuts does not mean they will not necessarily go ahead. As it is a fiscal matter the commons are likely to use their privilege to overrule. So this is probably just a delay. Dont forget the house of Lords repeatedly voted against the bedroom tax and that still went ahead.

scarlets · 26/10/2015 21:10

The government have themselves to blame. They vowed to support "hardworking families" and duly won some votes from this sector, and then after the election they targeted them. Not astute. If they'd focused the cuts on third babies/non workers they'd have had little opposition.

bigbuttons · 26/10/2015 21:10

God I have been so worried about this. I couldn't bear to listen to the radio today. So, a stay of execution for me and others like me?

Shutthatdoor · 26/10/2015 21:10

Good point Methemummy

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 26/10/2015 21:17

Darvany Why do you think they've introduced it so early in the Parliamentary term..? Hmm

CarrieLouise25 · 26/10/2015 21:19

Awesome day Grin

Hope IDS, Cameron and Osbourne all have trouble sleeping for once Grin

Badders123 · 26/10/2015 21:19
