To think 'in your face Osborne?'

I'm not. I know I'm not. I'm personally going to have a glass of wine and celebrate there being a significant amount of egg on the Tories' faces.

I'm a teacher and i'm on working tax credits. Without them i'd really struggle. I currently earn the fantastic sum of 22K pa, but it's a 4 day a week post so less than that pro rata. I used to earn 34K as a London teacher, but then took time off to raise two kids until comfortable nursery age, which I was able to do because my partner could also help support the family. On return, schools were academies, the burgundy book rules had gone, and there was no way I was employable at my old wage when they can get an NQT. So i've had to start again at the bottom, outside of London, where my wage is massively reduced anyway.

I would be very hard hit by losing them. My partner lost his job and began to work for himself, he's currently not turning over enough to pay himself a wage. We are being investigated, suddenly. As are 4 other people I know, all of whom are on the borders of the wage barrier they wanted to cut. They were quick off the mark there.

Badders123 · 30/10/2015 15:56

I don't think Tory voters like dark had any clue that so many are reliant on tax credits.
And to make it worse...
People like them!

Teachers! Police! Nurses!
All benefit scriungers according to IDS.
I think that the penny may be dropping for some, certainly lots of Tory MPs who voted for the cuts are now bleating about how it needs to be looked at again.
Yeah....because most of your electorate rely on them to live!

howabout · 30/10/2015 16:19

Agreed Badders even after the proposed cuts 60% of ALL families raising children will still be relying on tax credits.

JoffreyBaratheon · 30/10/2015 17:03

Let's see MPs live for a year on minimum wage or, as it's so generous, the tories' magical 'living wage'. Then watch them really bleat. What was the last pay rise they gave themselves? Most of them, their annual expenses alone are more than anyone on minimum wage or tax credits will see in a year. Yet they turned down a proposed pay rise for the police - suggested by an independent body set up to do just that - as too high. I suspect their own was higher.

JoffreyBaratheon · 30/10/2015 17:05

And as someone else says, if my husband's minimum wage goes up, it's deducted from housing ben us poor folk also rely on to keep our kids from living in a hedge. So no-one 'poor' is a penny better off when minimum wage (living wage call it what you will) rises. In IDS's world a magical unicorn probably pays my rent. Carers' Allowance is also taken into account when they calculate housing ben.

shedoop · 30/10/2015 17:05

I've been disabled since I was a child so not had the chance ever to train in a profession or have any chance of working a full-time job. And now I have DS who needs to be cared for as well realistically there's no opportunity for me ever to enter the workforce. I might not be an essential member of the work force but being a carer means that I'm doing work which the government would have to pay out for if my DS was in a care home. I have no prospect of returning to work even part-time due to the amount of care he needs (he wouldn't be safe on his own).

To the previous poster worrying about her son's transfer to PIP, I have got PIP and the transfer from DLA was pretty seamless for me. I had to do a lot of research on how to fill out the form but in the end I even managed to avoid a face to face assessment. So don't be too pessimistic on his chances of getting it.

merrymouse · 30/10/2015 17:27

Teachers! Police! Nurses!
All benefit scriungers according to IDS.

And all ironically paid by the government!

sugar21 · 30/10/2015 18:26

merrymouse · 30/10/2015 19:01

Wow, they must be really rubbish business people if they aren't making any profits ! You'd think George would step in and give them a hand! Are they about to go bust? Or is that not how it works.....?

sugar21 · 30/10/2015 19:10

It means that they have dodged paying corporation tax for 7 years. Probably be a fair amount too!

merrymouse · 30/10/2015 19:21

CarrieLouise25 · 30/10/2015 19:25

What would Jesus do about tax credits cuts? If there’s one thing he couldn’t stand, it was the poor whining on about being hungry.

This Independent article is hilarious: www.independent.co.uk/voices/so-lord-lloyd-webber-what-would-jesus-do-about-tax-credits-cuts-a6713916.html

JoffreyBaratheon · 30/10/2015 21:35

shedoop - being a carer you're utterly indispensible.

HelenaDove · 30/10/2015 22:45

Philip Davis MP spent an hour and a half arguing against carers getting free parking at hospitals. Same MP who thinks disabled people should work for less than minimum wage.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 30/10/2015 22:57

That Independent article is spot on.

On the other hand. Philip Davis MP - Fuck You. You are a bollock-brained imbecile.

shedoop · 30/10/2015 23:24

Thank you Joffrey Blush I just see it as doing what I have to really and I'm sure the other carers do as well. But it's good to read the supportive comments on this thread and know that not everyone is ignorant about why we have to claim benefits.

ssd · 31/10/2015 09:31

brilliant article!, thanks for the link

NicoleWatterson · 31/10/2015 09:31

My economic knowledge is pretty poor. But isn't there a known reliable model, you give £1 to someone on a lower income and they spend it (not through being feckless) you give £1 to a higher income and they save it.

So giving the £1 to a lower wage benefits the economy as a whole, helping employment, manufacturing etc etc. Whilst the £1 being saved us doing fuck all.

I hope I've explained it right

Badders123 · 31/10/2015 09:57

Phillip Davis.
Utter scum.

Jux · 31/10/2015 11:18

Sounds about right to me, Nicole.

ssd · 31/10/2015 12:01

just seen Phillip Davis puts his parking on expenses, meaning we pay for him to park.

Nice.

CarrieLouise25 · 31/10/2015 13:31

Ooo, that's a tricky one...

Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers
Thank you so much, all of you, from all of us. It is much appreciated.
Sorry not to have posted sooner, but I needed a break.

Now, back to business. One of the things I did whilst on my break was check out how much my house is worth. We knew it wasn't loads, we live in the arse end of nowhere. 210k as it turns out. So, I could sell up, go somewhere else, but how would we live? There are 7 of us here during uni/school holidays. We'd have to purchase a cheaper property, large enough to fit us all, and then pay legal fees. On top of that we'd then have to ensure the extra bathroom is there and all the necessary adaptations. As has been stated, more than once; it would cost the government an awful lot more than it does now.
