I'm not. I know I'm not. I'm personally going to have a glass of wine and celebrate there being a significant amount of egg on the Tories' faces.

I hope she is being ironic.

One hopes you are being a tad sarcastic milksnatcher
The great unwashed pah ha .

If you have used the NHS several times, your taxes are spent already

themilksnatcher · 26/10/2015 21:41

I'm not against helping the MOST vulnerable. But Tax Credits don't do that, they help millions of people, many of whom have made lifestyle choices.

Also, it's not a tax credit either as people don't need to pay tax to be entitled. Just left wing propaganda.

itsmeohlord · 26/10/2015 21:42

Lets hope this is OSbornes Poll Tax Moment and that he never ever gets the chance to lead the conservative party.

Darvany · 26/10/2015 21:43

What a society we have built

No such thing as society milksnatcher Grin

Nottodaythankyouorever · 26/10/2015 21:43

They won't push this through

It may be tweaked but it will go through in some form.

Theit manifesto was 12 billion in cuts.

dibly · 26/10/2015 21:43

Great day, but agree there'll be a flood of Tory peers coming through to stop this kind of challenge happening again.

Milk snatcher - y'what now?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/10/2015 21:45

Charlesroi I suspect that Tory backbencher avoided too much trouble by voting with the government for the cuts to tax credits despite what she said in her speech.

Oh well thankfully the majority of people don't think the same way as you do milksnatcher, even those in privileged positions such as those in the Lords. There are plenty of other countries in the world who have no welfare system, no benefits and no support at all for those on low incomes. I for one am so glad we don't live in any of those places - and I say that as a once very high earner who didn't claim any benefits at all and now finds myself on my knees financially having been through a difficult divorce and now with a severely disabled child. Making good choices doesn't make you immune from poverty and not all those claiming benefits do so because of poor choices.

Bubblesinthesummer · 26/10/2015 21:46

ESA and PIP probably next to be targeted.

The most vulnerable is society Sad

YouTheCat · 26/10/2015 21:47

But, Milksnatcher, lots of people who get tax credits do pay tax and work hard. It's not their fault if their employers pay them crap wages or they are working more than one part time job as there aren't enough full time jobs available.

People who work hard deserve to be able to afford to heat their homes and buy food.

Wages have gone down significantly, compared to the cost of living, over the last 6/7 years. That is why tax credits are necessary. They shouldn't be necessary for households with people working all the hours they physically can - but they are.

It isn't the working poor who are destroying our economy.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 26/10/2015 21:47

Yep, in your smug sneering face, Osborne! And in your suddenly not so 'delighted' one too, Dave!

For the first time I see the point of the House of Lords. People moaning about democracy need to remember that CallMeDave promised on live TV to not go after tax credits and many would have voted for him because of that. He had no right to think 'Well I'm in now, I'll do what I like.' THAT isn't democracy, it's more like a dictatorship.

FaFoutis · 26/10/2015 21:48

Good news at last.
I'm very happy to pay my tax to help other families.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 26/10/2015 21:49

Well milksnatcher, all companies have to do is pay living wages and people (including those awful scrounging teachers and nurses ) won't need to be subsidized by taxpayers money.

sugar21 · 26/10/2015 21:51

Yes and where would we be without our overstretched under paid teachers and nurses

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 26/10/2015 21:51

Don't think Cameron will chalk this one down as one of his 'career defining moments'. Grin

OP posts:
Nottodaythankyouorever · 26/10/2015 21:52

It isn't just families that work hard though. What about those without children, or single folk that also work hard.

I hate the phrase 'hard working families'. It as single people don't 'work hard' Sad

MrPorky · 26/10/2015 21:53

LOL, there aren't many teachers who qualify for tax credits.

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 26/10/2015 21:55

Fantastic result hopefully they will make changes. Osborne and that vile Iain Duncan Smith crowing on budget day I nearly threw something at my telly. They haven't got a clue how people in the real world live.

jellybeans · 26/10/2015 21:55

OK Milksnatcher, how did my friend make poor choices. Married late 20s had children, husband went off with another woman. Friend devastated. Works in a school as a TA 8:30-4:40 daily Mon to Fri. She will loose £1600. How is this right? How was that a lifestyle choice?

The propaganda wants you to think that people claiming tax credits are part time or SAHM. But in fact it hits many in full time work and will prevent people taking more hours. Eg a SaHM going into work or second earner going from part to full time. It really is a work penalty.

themilksnatcher · 26/10/2015 21:57

Jellybeans - sounds like a poor choice of husband ...

Cloppysow · 26/10/2015 21:57

Get it right up ye!

Darvany · 26/10/2015 21:57

Carers also do a great job and would have been affected. Yy to IDS and his foul little jig during the budget.

mellowheart · 26/10/2015 21:59

I've only just got in. What's happened? Are tax credits safe?
