migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

They'd tried the better ways, snowbells.

You know, compassion, towards your fellow humans wouldn't go a miss here. Walk a mile in their shoes.

BadLad · 05/09/2015 04:42

Yes and there are over 300 million working people in the UK all paying taxes

LOL

plum100 · 05/09/2015 06:54

This has probable been said - i have tried to keep up with the many threads on this - i dont u derstand how we can do this . I keep seeing we can easily take
More. But always this country on the news it says - cuts/ no money/ nhs services stretches and yes the very long housing waits. How logically are they going to be able to house these people if we cannot house the ones thats are already here? How can we provide nhs care / care in the community/ support for more people wheb the government is saying we are stuggling now. Please someone explain to me , if we can do it, how is that going to happen? Will the reugees be provided for/ givena home and our homeless will stay on the list?

fastdaytears · 05/09/2015 07:26

Sorry to go way upthread but this: most muslim women in my area are covered annoys the fuck out of me. You stand in the supermarket and ask who's Muslim do you? If not you have no idea how many are wearing anything.

YY to whoever said this is like reading the Daily Mail comments section (though for the most part with significantly better spelling).

I don't think it's a given that foreign aid has to come at the bottom of the list.

I was at infant school in the Gulf War and a lot of refugees came to our town. The demographic at our school changed quickly and not for the worse at all. It was all dealt with really well by our teachers and parents and the new families were all part of our community quickly.

Lemonfizzypop · 05/09/2015 07:53

Wow the daily mail thickos really come out late at night ey.

How fucking dare any of you judge those fleeing from war when you've NEVER (and never will be) in that situation? Just, the fucking arrogance of you in your rich western country, terrified to share the wealth that we're so lucky to have. You disgust me.

Services are stretched because the government choose to spend money elsewhere, if you can't wake yourselves to up to realise that then there's no hope for you, you take it out on people who have NOTHING to make you feel better about being fucked over by rich people at the top, you're ridiculous,

Lemonfizzypop · 05/09/2015 07:55

I'm preggo and hormonal and reading this thread first thing has made my blood boil.

fastdaytears · 05/09/2015 07:57

I'm not preggo but always hormonal and it's got me so cross.

But lemon I was born in the UK so I deserve lots of nice expensive stuff and a safe stable life. Then if there's anything left over we can help some of the nicer foreigners. Not the ones who get upset and angry or the ones with penises.

sleepyelectricsheep · 05/09/2015 08:01

Lemonfizzypop I totally agree, this thread really is shocking.

Such ignorance. It's like a twilight zone Daily Mail version if mumsnet.

FriendofBill · 05/09/2015 08:10

There are so many inequalities in the world. You absolutely cannot blame these people. Put the politicians in the sea and we'll work it out from there.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 05/09/2015 08:12

I'm pregnant and hormonal too and I'm hoping my children might get to have a safe life in a stable country. The way things are going I think the whole world is going to become a very unstable and unsafe place and yes that scares me shitless.

EuropaFanatic · 05/09/2015 08:31

Undeniably some are genuinely fleeing because of War (notwithstanding the point that they should seek asylum in the first safe haven) but many are also migrating just because they want a better life than they can get in their own Country or indeed in the Country that they have already arrived in. In theory the two types should be handled differently but in reality how can you? The problems in their own Countries need to be fixed to stop them wanting to leave, we are only dealing with the symptoms.
That said there are incidents that make Europeans/Westerners lose sympathy for the refugees/migrants such as when two groups of differing religions started arguing about their respective deity's on their boat, this lead to a fight where 12 of one of the factions were thrown overboard by the other faction and they drowned. How are we Europeans/Westerners supposed to view this? They are supposedly fleeing for their very lives taking a risk in a small boat to escape but even in this most desperate of circumstances arguing about religion is so important it means you should commit murder. If this is how these people think and is how they behave in these most desperate of circumstances how are they going to behave and integrate when a European Country welcomes them and gives them asylum?

plum100 · 05/09/2015 08:34

I know that the government choose to waste money on other things , and i know that some in this country are paid ridiculous amount ( house of lords tip of the iceberg) , and i am also not saying i believe they shouldnt come. The people needing to get here are desperate and need our help. What im asking is how? Will the government stop paying ridiculous salaries/ expenses? Or the disgustingly undeserved highly paid (i.e footballers) be made to take a salary cut? Anyone with an empty 2nd home be forced to offer it to someone needing help? Practically - where will the money come from ? And if we already have it how come we havent used it to help the families that are already in poverty? Its so very very sad.

msgrinch · 05/09/2015 08:41

Bloody hell I see the daily mail thick as shit brigade were here last night, with their racist drivel. Ignorant fools.

Cerseirys · 05/09/2015 08:41

There must be loads of spare rooms at Buckingham and Kensington Palaces etc. Maybe Queenie and Co could put up a few refugee families. Because God knows our taxes support them too!

Annwfyn · 05/09/2015 08:41

This thread has given me a depressing new insight into why so many people died in the Holocaust. Lots of Polish Jews who dressed funny and had a weird religion and probably wouldn't integrate, properly, right?

And considering the situation with ISIS in Syria and the whole 'biggest refugee crisis since 1945' I don't think this is an exaggeration and I think that there's some truly shameful behaviour on this thread. I just wish our schools put more effort into teaching history as the lesson clearly isn't getting through.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 08:55

I am not thick so stop with the personal insults just because you don't agree with my opinion. I don't resort to calling you names because I don't agree with you.

We already share alot of our wealth as it is we have given more money than any other eu country to help the Syrian refugees and yesterday DC says we are giving another £100m whilst we are making cuts elsewhere. I don't think that's right at all.

I wor hard like the majority do to earn money and pay taxes so that money can be reinvested into our country and yes some of it is for foreign aid but there needs to be a balance. We have finite resources and alot of our services already cannot cope so of course it is going to put a bigger strain on all of these.

I am not ignorant. I can see people are fleeing a worn torn country but those who have now reached a safe place throwing food and water on the floor is just incredibly ungrateful. If they want to get to th uk and they are now in another eu country and safe then apply like everyone else has to.

I've experienced it first hand how migration is effecting jobs down south in Kent. I know people who used to be able to get nmw jobs through an agency but now don't because the new agency staff only give work to their kind and no other nationality. You think that is fair? Cannot even get evidence to be able to take it to court but doesn't mean its not happening.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 09:03

Come and defend their behaviour in Hungary then...where they are throwing food and water in the faces of those who are kind enough to hand it to them. How they risking their families lives on train tracks despite the fact they are now already in a safe country. You think that when they come here they will suddenly change their behaviour and act within the law.

So many posts about how people will gladly offer a room but WTAF...you are happy to open your room to someone fleeing Syria but where have you been when so many of our own people don't have anywhere to live. What's so different a out taking in a Syrian refugee and someone homeless on our streets right now? Why so happy to br so kind and generous now? Sheer hypocrisy is breathtaking.

fastdaytears · 05/09/2015 09:04

Hungary is not a safe country

Moreshabbythanchic · 05/09/2015 09:11

I notice its always the pro immigration people who start with the name calling and yet they put themselves above those of us who have a different view. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and just because its different to yours it doesn't mean they are thick or racist.

Cerseirys · 05/09/2015 09:12

Have you actually seen what's happening in Hungary? People are being packed onto crowded trains with inadequate sanitation or ventilation and have no idea where they are going. Perhaps they're rebelling because oh I don't know, this happened in Europe in the past and we all know how that ended up? Honestly, the lack of empathy shown by some here is deplorable.

SansaryaAgain · 05/09/2015 09:14

Sorry but anyone who seems to think immigration is going to cause mass Sharia law, forced FGM and veiling of women, and compulsory consumption of halal meat is being a bit thick and/or racist.

Moreshabbythanchic · 05/09/2015 09:15

They were not packed into the trains, they were fighting, pushing and climbing over others to get on. Get your facts straight.

CoteDAzur · 05/09/2015 09:15

"Turkey has a history of displacing Kurds itself"

Turkey also has a history of opening its borders and taking in 200,000 Kurds when Saddam was gassing them, but that wasn't in the Daily Mail so I guess didn't really happen.

Absolutely. My opinion is that the views expressed in your posts are thick and racist. I hope very much that you are neither, but as you say it's only my opinion anyway.
